Baby Girl

For those who have known me awhile both here on mylot and on gather, you know that my chihuahua/yorkie mix Baby Girl is often the cause for my laughter. Well yesterday was no exception and I thought I must share with all of you.
She has been slightly overweight for the last year and a half, mainly due to the fact that she has very little physical exercise. My back has been giving me problems so our long walks were cut out.
Since we moved to Arizona in January, she gets to go to my mother in law's at least twice a week and play with their Siberian Huskies. She loves getting out in the back yard and running with Koti Bear. We often will take all three dogs for a walk in the neighborhood in the afternoons after the sun begins to go down and the temps cool off.
The vet also put her on a very strict diet. One half a can of wet food and 1/2 cup of dry food a day. Only one treat per day and absolutely no table food. My girls were very guilty of this last one.
Well I had just asked my son yesterday if he could tell if Baby was losing any weight since the new diet started a month ago. He said well, maybe a little but it's hard to tell when I see her everday. So last night, we decided that Hubby, son and I were going to go to the Hot Tub and try to work out the day's kinks. It was such a lovely night temperature and weather wise, that I thought Baby Girl might enjoy spending the hour on the patio instead of cooped up in the house.
So I put her out and closed the glass sliding door. Turned on the light so she wasn't completely in the dark and went to put on my swim suit. As we started out the door, James (My son)happened to glance out on the patio and said "Mom...where's the dog?" I told him I assumed she was on the patio where I put her. "Uh---no!" he said
Mike (Hubby) opened the front door to the apartment and Baby Girl trotted inside looking quite pleased with herself that she had managed to get out and find her way home! James put her back out and we waited and watched. Now, up until yesterday, I had observed her trying to out under the iron rail of the patio with no luck. She was too chubby to get under. But guess what?
Evidently the diet is working because she can now flatten herself out and slip through quite easily. So, her days of enjoying the sunshine outside while I run to the mailbox or to the pool or to the grocery store are over. Now, she will be forced to stay inside the apartment.
So my fellow pet owners...has the four legged addition to your family done anything this week to make you smile or laugh?

Oh, it seems the diet showed good results with your Baby Girl. You should still keep her on diet until you can see the results with the bare eye. My partner went on vacation and I had to stay home with her dog (which, actually, is my dog, too). She told me how to feed her while she is gone but I thought she was kidding: only 4 coffee cups of dry food? I think I overfeed her because, when she returned home after two weeks, she got mad at me because the dog was fat. I didn't realize the change, because, like you said, I saw her everyday and she seemed OK to me.
So the poor dog had to be put on diet to lose the extra weight she gained because of me. Instead of those four coffee cups of dry food she ate only three for ten days. After this strict diet, my partner was satisfied with the results and put the dog back on her normal diet.
The funny thing was that, during these ten days, the poor dog was hungry all the time. If she saw anybody eating when we were walking, she stopped and sat, begging for food. She usually have luck with her beggar face and she receive some treats from strangers.
A few days ago, when we passed by a small shop, she remembered that a girl from that shop fed her some biscuits once. So she stopped right in front of the shop and sat. She didn't want to move from there until the girl came out and gave her a biscuit. I felt so embarased! It was like she was a stray dog, desperate for food.

Reminds me of a time when I took my kids and we all went to visit my grandnmother. My kids had a habit of wanting a snack every time we went, which was fine with Grandma as long as they had already eaten lunch/dinner.
One day we went in, and my middle child went over and pulled on my grandma's apron and said "Grandma I need something to eat. I haven't had anything since I was here the last time!"
It had been TWO WEEKS since we'd visited! Of course, my grandmother knew that I was not starving my children. We still tease Kristen about that now and this happened almost 20 years ago.

That is so funny! She's going to be extra ormery from now on, huh? Annabelle did something funny the other night although at the time it wasn't AS funny as it is now. I woke up around 2am to a butt on my face. Apparently Annabelle was not comfortable with the rest of the room she had on my queen size mattress, so she decided to make herself comfy on my face.

Baby's favorite place to get on my queen sized bed is between Mike and I if she thinks she can get away with it. If I'm still alseep when Mike gets up to go to work, he will put her in bed with me. (She's learning to sleep on a pillow at the foot of my bed because she is a bed hog!) I will wake up to find her sound asleep curled up on Mike's pillow.l Usually, like Annabelle with her butt in my face!
They are too funny aren't they? I certainly wouldn't want to try and live without them though!

aww...I'm so sorry. I know how hard it is to lose an animal you love. When our house burned in 2001, we lost our Jersey. She got scared and hid from the fireman. They knew she was in there but they couldn't find her before the smoke got to her. She wasn't burned at all. Not a mark on her. The fire chief told me that she just went to sleep.

We have been gone all afternoon, for the better part of six hours actually. So the "boys" are here, making sure we know that they missed us and they were scared we were gone forever and ever, etc. Creamery, the youngest, purrs as loud as a freight train. He has "bathed" hubby's arms and has stood on hubby's lap and given him a hug and tried to kiss him. This is just a very affectionate cat. I am glad the diet is working for Baby.

The huskies act like I've not been to Mom and Dad's house in years instead of days when I go over. Koti kisses and jumps up to put his paws on my shoulders so he can kiss my nose if I don't sit down where he can get to me. Jake wraps around my feet and legs like a cat. As soon as I sit down he is trying to get in my lap and kissing me like there's no tomorrow. They are just too funny

Things have been a little crazy with the move, but actually I'd just gotten into a funk of some sort and didn't really feel like being social. I had to go back to Arkansas for my sister's wedding and hadn't been there a week when I got down in my back. Another proof that we need to be in Arizona.

That is cute! I’m glad to hear that the diet is working! One of my cats Hewy is always doing things that make us laugh. I lost him for half an hour the other day and found him when I went to the kitchen cupboard to get a cup out and there he was, sitting on top of my plates and cups! Grrr!! I had to wash everything so I was not immediately impressed but I had to laugh about it later! Bless our furry friends!

OH Paula, I'm sorry but I have to tell you that I had to laugh when I read this! Poor Hewy! How did he get in there? I'm thinking that maybe someone shut the door without knowing he was there?
I'm just sitting here imagining the look on your face when you opened the cupboard door and there was Hewy! LOL
Love you my friend! Paula C

You obviously didn't bother to read the post because Baby Girl is my DOG. That is her name. My niece was 2 years old when we got her and we would tell Isabella to be carefull with the Baby (puppy) and she started calling her Baby Girl and it stuck.
I do not have a boyfriend either. been married to my husband for almost 25 years.
