My son getting his teacher fingerprinting ended up being a waste

My son is going to an online college that is in a different state then where we live. The requirements on taking a course in being a teacher is that you have to have teacher certification fingerprinting. He had to have that state mail him a fingerprinting kit which included a form and a fingerprinting index card for him to fill out and for the police department to fill out. The requirements are for the fingerprinting to be done by a person that is employed by a police department that does fingerprinting and they sign there name on the fingerprinting card and on the form saying where they work and giving there signature and they mail the police department mails it off not you. We went to the police department to have that done. The lady does the fingerprinting on the card and signs the card but doesn't fill out the information on the form where she puts what job she has and where she works and then signs it and that is a requirement so I tell my son to tell her that she forgot to do that. Well she says that she wouldn't of done the fingerprinting on the card if she knew she had to do that. She said that she won't sign her name on the form because she doesn't want to be responsible for it getting to where it is supposed to and says sorry that she wouldn't of done the fingerprinting if she knew that she had to do that. Man, that was upsetting because you have to pay the police department $10 to do it and that was a waste since he can't take that to a police department that will sign the form since the prints already have been taking so we have to have another kit mailed to the house and pay for it to be done all over again. We told what had to be done on the phone to make an appointment to have it done and to know how much they charge and they said they can do that. Sometimes people don't pay attention to things. We couldn't get our money back either they said because they did do the fingerprinting.

I think I would file a complaint with the department about the employee refusing to sign the form. It might not get your money back, but since told them what you needed and they told you how much it would cost and you made an appointment, they should have had the courtesy of finishing the job. I would talk to that person's supervisor and tell them what happened and see if anything can be done. If you can't get your money back, perhaps someone else can do them without charging you again. If that doesn't help, I would write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper and express the same thing you did here and let the public know how their "public servants" serve the public (not!). Good luck with that!

It sounds like the city/town you live in really sucks. No free or cheap medical, police that are unwilling to do simple tasks and supervisors that support that kind of irresponsibility. I would definitely make some kind of letter to the editor if there is a local paper and tell what happened. Either that, or I would move away from the area to someplace that you can get the care and service that you need.

She refused to do it and I said man that is bad and she said I will be right back I'm going to ask my boss what he thinks she came back and she said that her boss told her not to do it because he doesn't want there department to be responsible. The State where I live if you try to get police department employees in trouble you will be harassed by the police department. For example them stopping you everytime you drive checking to see if you have a license and insurance and they say that they are seeing that you have a seat belt on. I was in a car accident before in a different town where a police officer was undercover and ran into the front of my vehicle because he didn't see us he said because he was following someone he said that day.My mom,son and I got hurt the police department ending up hardly paying anything and we were stopped a lot. We didn't get arrested but it was still annoying.

Wow do you think people actually listen when we are explaining what we need. This is terrible and such a waste of time and money. Though not so much still you could have used your time and money to better use. We did go through something similar last year, where I drove for almost two hours to a court house. First I called and asked and someone looked it up and said sure we can, just pay $15 dollars and we will print it up. Okay so a very hot and humid day, of traffic so we made it there and nope the paper I needed was not the one I had asked for so we stood back in line and finally they issued it right. So turned around and drove back 2 hours and went downtown to issue the paper and guess what it was not the paper we needed. So we had to turn around again and pay again to get the correct one. But wait initially they said we had to do it there, which was the reason for the long drive. To find that nope we could have done it all in the city. So $30.00 later, a tank of gas, and a full day of frustration.

That would be very frustrating.I deal with things like that every now and then and it gets real frustrating!Talking on the phone to take care of business sometimes can be frustrating enough and that doesn't cost as much money when they keep transferring you to someone they say can take care of your situation and you keep getting transferred around and you get to wondering if the situation is going to be solved or not or you go through all of that and then you get disconnected and have to start over.

Seems customer satisfaction is just not what it use to be. So sad a little smile and a bit of explanation can go a long way. Thank you margeryann for the BR!

I would be mad as a hornet! I hate when things like that happened. They act like he is the only one that they have ever had to do that for. Surely she has done one before. Hang in there! I know it is trying sometimes when silly things like that happens.
