Anti-virus With Viruses

Today is the expiration date of the anti-virus (Norton Internet Security) installed in my laptop. I am kinda disappointed at how early it expired when my laptop is still new and all programs installed are genuine, but well I can't do anything about that. Anyway my problem is I need a new antivirus because I need to feel secure when I use the internet, but I am scared to download one because I have heard that some free anti-viruses have free virus in them too. I think it's kind of ironic though how one can end up getting a virus while downloading an anti-virus. So I would like to ask your advice about this. Is it true that when we download some anti-virus, we get computer viruses or is it just a hearsay? Do you download free anti-virus or do you pay for it? What is the best anti-virus these days? Share your views. Or if you have tried downloading, I would very much love to read your experiences.

I don't know what the best is. When I was in Thailand a couple of years ago, one guest house owner suggested avira and I tried it. I used it on that laptop for as long as I had it. When I got other computers I tried other freebies. When the trial version of norton ran out on my current laptop, I started out using AVG. Then someone suggested Viper. I didn't particularly like that one. It did have lots of detections, but it also blocked some of the sites I frequented so when the trial ran out, I deleted it. I now have the free version of avira again and I'm not sure if it is good or not, but it seems to find something almost every day.

Well I am using avast now, but I have also tried avira too. I haven't really heard about viper. Haha... Trial versions are so useful to us who like freebies. Lol. We just need to find a good site.
