Great news, I am not going to lose my leg!

Hello fellow mylotters. Last week my cats got into fights all day long, and at night I began yelling at them to stop. Baby bit me on both my legs and on my right calf. I did not follow the vets advice to clean the would right away and put antibiotic ointment on it. Instead I just washed it in the shower. Today (this is kinda gross, so if you have a week stomach skip this part ) I was in the yard and peeled the scab off to see green instead of red. EWE! I ran to the pharmacy to ask if they could recommend something, and the pharmacist was not in since it's Sunday. I'm getting a bit worried because it is not a color I have ever seen on my body before, unless it was eyeshadow. I put peroxide on all the bites and was amazed it didn't hurt. I am one of the biggest babies you will ever see when it comes to pain, far worse than any man. So I was happy it did not hurt! Grabbed some cotton balls and cleaned them out as well as I could, then put the antibiotic ointment on it. I called the fire department to ask if I should go to the doctor (I really do not want to see the doctor for this if I do not have to) and they asked how big the wound is, and I told him it is about as big as a cats tooth. He said I should be fine if I peroxide, ointment and put a bandaid on it. I will not lose my leg. I am very happy to hear that! Have you ever had a wound that got infected, and did it scare you? What would you do if you found infection in a cut?

You talked about this once earlier. Right? I had advised you to consult a doctor straight away. Never mind!. No infection will be found if I had a cut because I will not let it!

Yes, you did. But I just did not do it, forgetting to get the stuff at the store. The wounds are not very deep, so I did not think a doctor was necessary. I never did think I would see green on my body! Usually a cut is from the razor and I never do treat it, just let water pour over it while I finish the shower. Never had an infection until now, and even though I was warned by many, I just forgot to get the items necessary and then thought perhaps it is ok since everything looks as though it is healing. That is, until I saw what was beneath! I am sorry I did not listen.

Actually rose, when an animal is responsible for the wound one cannot take chances. Anyway better late that never. Hope all will be well with you.

The biggest one is hurting now, so maybe it is healing. Also itching like crazy! You are right; an animal bite (especially a cat) is nothing to mess with.

Well glad nothing serious happened to ya...If i got an infection or a cut i wont go to the doctor immediately, ill just try to find some remedy from my parents, neighbors or the omnipotent internet and try it.If im responding well, then then no problem, but if it doesnt or get worse, then i rush to an hospital without wasting any further time...!

Next time, take care of it right away, you never know what could happen. Infection can set in and spread throughout your body, and if not treated at all, could put you into septic shock and possibly kill you. I've never had an infection like that, but you can never be too careful.

Yes, I should get in the habit to treat cuts and the like from now on. I rarely get them, so I never do have the items in the house to treat them. Once in awhile I purchase stuff, but it expires before I ever have the opportunity to use it. Infections are scary, not to mention very dangerous.

now thats ewwww har har har. i have no pets at home for now... but i would love to have one soon or sooner. but when something like that happen you should not just wash it with water you should really disinfect the wounds. for of course we all know teeth can transfer a lot of germs. the greens that you see in your wounds are infections already. good news you wont lose a leg so try to make it right next time, har har har.

True, I was so tired that night and there was no cream or peroxide to care for the wound in the house. I just wanted to go to sleep; they had kept me up well into the morning with their carrying on. But now I have it, and from now on when it expires I will get new stuff just in case this might happen again, and it very well might.

When I was a kid and was bitten or scratched by one of the cats, my granddad would clean the wound(s) and slather coal tar on them. Then he would tell me a story about how to keep from getting cat scratch fever. My grandparents always had animals around; cats, dogs, chickens and whatever you'd think you'd find on a small farm. I never did get cat scratch fever but every time I get a cat nick or hear of someone who does, I always worry about it. http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/healthy/firstaid/bites/024.html

O, wow! I have heard of cat scratch fever before I ever had cats, and had forgotten all about it. If it is green, then I have it. I do not have a fever or anything (yet, anyway) so perhaps all is well. Thank you for the information! Cat lovers must always be extra cautious. Can you believe that kitty is now sitting on my lap, trying to get me to pet her? grrrrrr.....she's lucky she's so cute!

The bite of the kitten is not really a cause for alarm. It is still a baby, so the bite will just be shallow and washing it with soap and water will just be fine. Then put some ointment. However, what could have caused the wound to be colored green? That's what alarmed you actually, so you thought it's something serious already, like your leg will be cut. Anyway, take care of the wound so it gets well soon.

Baby is a full grown cat. The fire department told me the green is from infection, so hopefully the ointment will do the trick and cure it.

Good to hear that you're okay now. I don't think you'd loose a leg anyway since the size was big as a cats tooth. If I got a cut or bit, I would go to the emergency as possible to get it cleaned up, get a shot if necessary. I'd never put it off til' later.
