Penny wise and pound foolish.

One of my neighbours has a peculiar habit. He uses ordinary buses for transport instead of executive ones to save money. But the A.C machine in his bed room is always running even during his absence because he always forgets to switch off the A.C machine. To me, he is penny wise and pound foolish. Am I right in my observation or am I wrong?

To the observer you may be right but to him there may be good reason for him to leave the AC on. When it is very hot I might do the same thing. You just never know. What looks one way to one person can be totally different to another person. And it may be worth it to him to be penny wise and pound foolish.

This guy uses the buses but always forgets to turn od his Air Conditioner? The guy is an idiot! If he really wants to save money he would remember to turn off his air conditioner! If not he is clueless!

This reminds me of my boyfriends mother who says you have to spend to save. lol Whereas there are many things she skimps on but then does not shut off the air conditioner even on cool days.

One of my cousins is like this!!! She would constantly save her money and end up not eating, because of it then gets sick and has to pay for the hospital and medications...good thing she's figured that not eating isn't helping her to save at all!

Thank you for starting such good discussion. There are so many people like this in our lives, they may often deal with things like how we can't understand.one of my friends like to buy a lot of expensive clothes, when she does't want to spend very little money on taking taxi or having a good meal for herself,we may think that's strange, however ,people live their own lifes,we live our own lifes.

My sister is like this. She would buy organic chicken for an extra $1-2 per pound or pour out a full gallon of milk if it was one day past its expiration, but buy cheap "public restroom" toilet tissue because it was cheaper and she needed to stick to a budget. Frugal and wasteful at the same time, something I don't understand.

One of my uncles have this kind of forgetful problem, too. Most of the time, he is not at home and still switch on the air-cond or fan. For the simple reason, he is very forgetful and only by end of the month when he receive the electricity bill, then he realized his problem. Now, after he installed the automatic switch, it had saved him a lot of money. Because that automatic switch will automatic switched off his fan or air-cond on certain time, like what he had set.

yes, you are right. Maybe you should give him such advise, and telling him that he might waste more money on the A/C if he wasn't there to use it. Maybe he should understand it better how to save money. For me, I wish that I can enjoy the a/c these days, it just too hot to deal with these days weather.

Well, my dad is sort of like that, I remember through the years when something had to be fixed in the house he would look for the cheap way out but something always happened. In the long run it cost him more to have things redone the right way.
