Car alarms....why

I'm sitting here in my apartment listening to this car alarm going off and nobody cares . I noticed that 9 out of 10 car alarms go unnoticed . I never see anybody running out side to check on their car to make sure it's still there. Sometimes at night thay go off and it's very annoying if nobody turns them off. Some alarms go off just by walking past a car. What's your take on car alarms?

Don't you just love those cheap ones... Back when I had a car that was actually worth stealing I had a car alarm called The Dragon. It wouldn't do the whole alarm & lights thing like the cheap alarms do. If somebody broke into the car & actually tried to drive away the alarm would lock the doors , kill the engine & fill the car with a thick smoke. It would be impossible for the thief to drive & people would actually notice since the car appeared to be on FIRE. Those cheap systems are only useful if your standing close enough to notice & recognize your own alarm.

Yea, that was before the days of On-star & I'd spent a lot fixing up & tricking out that car. These days if someone stole one of my vehicles they'd be doing me a favor. Anyone wanna swipe an old blazer?

Sounds like you had the Hook Up with your Dragon alarm, kinda like the cops when they put out a Bait car for thieves to steel.

I live in the middle of nowhere and rarely lock my car. Car alarms are not standard out this way. LOL. However, a couple of places have alarms which can be set off by a lizard or a cat and they just keep going because there is no-one handy to switch them off...such a right royal pain in the patooti!

Oh you can have all that sweety, give me the serenity and silence. Mind you, some of our native birds can be pretty noisy.

I think about living in the middle of nowhere sometimes but then I'm a city girl and I do love all the noise and the 24 hour action, except car alarms of course and tooting horns and screaming neighbor kids and

Well, most times it scares people off who are trying to still them but heck if they aren't running out to check on their cars when the alarms go off why have them. I mean that is just letting the people know they have time to actually steal the thing if no one comes immediately..and yeah those alarms can be annoying..maybe they are in the shower when they go off or doing a little mattress dancing and can't turn them off immediately. But they are steal annoying.

"still" is meant to be Steal.

It seems like everybody has one but nobody really cares to check on their cars when they go off.

I think they are getting less common locally because of these very reasons. They are easy to set off, and then no one wants to be bothered to check on them. I would not want one.

I think they're pretty much useless. Sure, they might have come in handy back in the day when they first came out, but nowadays they're just annoying. Happy mylotting!

Wow how sad that they do not go and check because in my mind if someone is watching their car and sees that no one comes out then it is an invitation to damage and or steal their car. As this way they know no one is going to come out and check. Mine I have it parked always right in front and I can see it from my window. I also have a remote that I can shut it off from my key pad on my key ring. It also beeps to let me know if it goes off. Mine does not go off easily though, as mine is set only if the car is struck, damage with some form of thump. There are some noisy ones that are so sensitive they go off when truck and or loud sounding types cars drive by.

My car alarm is one that only goes off if someone is trying to get in. I hate those ones that you walk by and the thing goes off. I guess if I was a car thief, I might run off when I heard it...lol...but your right. Car alarms can be annoying if noone ever turns them off. If there was a car alaen go off in my neighborhood...everyone would come running out..maybe even a few with a shotgun

I understand about it missy. I also get annoyed when someone's car is parked in front our house and then suddenly the alarm goes in the middle of the night. Okay,i checked my car and it's not mine. But i can't just stop the other car from screaming ugh!

It's really annoying if you're trying to sleep and the alarm just keeps going and going. Maybe if someone actually would steal their car they pay more attention next time the alarm goes off

Having put them in the car and if they go off the owner has to attempt to find the reason why it has set off.Otherwise it will be just carelessness on his part.He can't blame others if someone steals his car.Maybe these alarms are ultra sensitive if they start when a person just passes within range without touching. This aspect has to be rectified.

I think the frequency of the car alarms going off kind of ruined their usefulness in a way. Like, no one pays attention to it anymore because they're so darn sensitive and when they do go off it isn't anything major. But maybe if car alarms went off for the right reason, like someone broke into the car, people wouldn't ignore the alarm as much and it wouldn't be as annoying! And if they weren't so darn sensitive!
