Question for Opponents of Congressional Term Limits: Do you support presidential term limits (22nd amendment)? If so, why term limit only the President? Shouldn't we treat Congress and the President the same way?

Oh, I would love to see term limits. Senators, and representatives, should be citizens and should be part of society instead of an elite group. I totally favor term limits.

Thanks. Some people oppose term limits. I wonder if they oppose Presidential term limits. It seems they would have to, to be consistent, right?

That would seem to follow. I know that one of the arguments is that our congressmen gain experience in their many terms and also gain political clout while there and that benefits their home state. I think iit is important that the rules be enforced even handedly. I believe it was a Roman Senator (I want to say Cincinnatus), that promoted the Senator being a citizen and servant of the state. If it was not Cincinnatus, I cannot remember who it was.

Yes, I think there should be term limits. I'm sure the only reason our founding fathers didn't address that was that they believed that the federal government should be SMALL and have limited power, and the states and local governments should address most local issues. They also believed that the people we send to Washington would NOT spend all their time there. We should not have career politicians in Washington. And we should make sure that no one is able to vote him/herself a raise. That is so absurd.

I doubt term limits ever crossed their mind... I wish it had, I wonder what their opinion would have been. Thanks for commenting

I wish that they would put term limits on ALL government officials. Too many times politicians turn a win into congress, etc as a lifetime career, which, I believe sorely limits our nation. I have heard some people say that they oppose them, but have never gotten a good reason as to why.

I remain undecided on the issue, initially I supported them, it just sounded like common sense, then I ran into some arguments from the other side that made sense to. Sometime I will sort it all out... but I think I still lean in favor of term limits for now.

I think that there should be term limits for every office all the way down to dog catcher. I think that we should be able to recall an elected official in every state...Some states do not have this option. I do not think that an elected official should get a full retirement after serving one term in office. I think retirement should be dispensed with completely. They should have a regular job to go back to when they have served their term in office and retire from that. Most do anyway. They collect multiple retirements.
