Office politics can truly become very dirty.
Incompetent individuals who cannot compete square and fair will opt to bully deserving but reserve people. Worst, these individuals has the potential to dig your grave six feet under without you knowing it. How? By character assassination.
Malicious intent can drive a crazed employee to go overboard by spreading lies against another co-employee. This individual will study a person or a group of persons to see if they dislike the target. If it is sensed that the target is being disliked for reasons like envy or indifference, this individual will start her or his scheme of telling twisted stories about the target.
It is no wonder that the target or the victim will one day discover that everybody hates her or him already with no apparent reason but because of the lies. The character was assassinated. The hardworking and serious worker, for example, is identified as one boring and sadistic person. Or worse, a subservient and insensitive co-worker.
Do you know one who has this capability? Is there office politics in your workplace?

I stay totally away from office politics. Somehow I have managed not to get involved. And since I moved to Sacramento, I'm really out of it, and happy that way.

Oh dear.. I have been through this. It felt almost as if you knew me personally. Feels terrible to be in that position. I succumbed. I am hoping there will be a few who have better strategies to reveal. In my case, I was related to boss but was employed because of influence of another cousin whom boss didnt like very much. And boss had soft corner for sob story telling ladies. Unfortunately, due to family politics I already was maligned .. a name which has only been recently washed clean. So boss always took me to be wrong. Others had a great time hurting me.

You touched the very hurting subject and yeah we can easily find atleast one person around us during office hours. I must admit tackling with such a character is very hard and tough task.
What I know or how I tackle with that person, very simple but is deal with your every colleague with a smiling face and always get ready to help them out. Even sometimes you can not able to help them but show your commitment towards their problem. In the end result will be your way without demanding anything from your other colleagues or family members because in every family one person you can find too with the similar nature.
Well by doing this simple method I never faced any problem from such personality.
Cheers
