That is interesting I had read some people's blog about dumpster diving for those food salvage, and a way to rebel our American way of lifestyle, wasting food all the time. Those rebels would go behind the supermarket dumpster, and get whatever they wasted for the day. So, many supermarket would uphold a sign, no trespassing at their behinds. Maybe dumpster diving is gross to some people, but maybe it is way for others. What do you think of it? This lady has post some interesting blog about dumpster diving, a way to save money on food too.

@kingparker: I stumbled upon an article on Wikipedia about this very topic two days ago, and I am shocked to know that in some countries this act is considered as stealing...This is not an unusual act in my country, because for us anything that you have thrown into those bins have been "surrendered", although one might say that "anything inside my bin is mine", and "they have trespassed my shop"
Nevertheless, this phenomenon is actually good if we see it from different perspectives...Every year we have filled the landfills with tonnes of trashes from our homes and shops...They actually helped us to solve our landfill problem, and yet some people are against this...No offence, but is that our way to thank them for saving our environment?
Tip our hats up for these low-profile environmentalists...

Yeah. Some people have no other means to find stuff to use or eat. Sometimes people throw away some really nice stuff also.

I know someone who dumpster dives for "treasures", not for food. This person has found things from computers to a leather computer chair. There have been many other treasures discovered by this person that I can't think of right now. So a few years ago, a friend of mine and I went on the adventure of dumpster diving behind a retail store. I didn't really find anything, but it was dark at the time. Like with thrift stores, one person's trash is another person's treasure. This includes food, too, I guess, but I could not imagine having to dumpster dive for food. This is a way of life for some people and although some might think it's gross, the people who do it don't think twice about it.

Dumpster is for someone that really dumb, there is a lot of work to do if they want to do it. the only reason they don't want to do it. They will ruin their own way with that.
