In our locality, I see some poor guys who collect pieces raw potato with the outer skin, from road side junk food stalls and eat them. They are healthy looking guys; I asked one of them, he said, he eats this only, no other food for the last four years. It was amazing. I asked friend of hubby, Prof. Dutt, who specializes in Nutrition. He gave me the following useful information. I am sure you too will like this. Raw potato juice is rich in potassium, sulphur, phosphorus, and chlorine, you can get this potato benefits only if you consume raw potato as juice or JUST STEAM the potato, because these powerful minerals are converted to inorganic atoms when potatoes are cooked. Potatoes may help fight against high blood pressure, prevent heart attack, protect against stroke, prevent kidney damage due to high blood pressure, controls appetite and could protect you from certain cancers due to its potassium and vitamin C content. Potato is still healthy to be consumed as baked, boiled and mashed one but its healthy effects is much lesser than consuming it raw and the easily digestible sugars in raw potatoes are converted to starches upon cooking. Potatoes are not good to be consumed as chips and fries because of acrylamide formation. So, the best way to consume it raw is by taking it as juice. Fresh raw undiluted potato-carrot juice is so nutritious. A cup or two of potato-carrot juice a day is a great help to health problems like skin blemishes and high blood pressure. Because of high cost of meat, here we add potato to meat while making curry; to this Prof Dutt, says, combination of cooked meat and potatoes strengthen the solanin poison of the potato? Solanin is an alkaloid poison that is predominant in potatoes too green in color. Rather consuming sweet potato is much more beneficial, sweet potatoes has one-third more carbohydrates, three times more calcium, twice more sodium and silicon, and more than four times chlorine than Irish potatoes. So I am thinking of ‘no more potato chips’, (my grandkids like them so much); no potato-meat curry (my son’s favorite) henceforth. I myself and Professor will start drinking potato-carrot juice soon. What is your opinion on this? Will you too take potato-carrot juice? Please respond and share your views. Kalyani ‘Namastey’. . God bless you to enjoy a lucky day ahead.

I didn't know that raw potatoes were more beneficial than eating cooked potatoes. However, I did know that eating whole potatoes with the skin was far more beneficial than eating potatoes with the skin removed. For that reason, since I was a much younger woman I've always prepared whole potatoes. However, even if it is much more beneficial to eat raw potatoes I don't think that I would be able to do it because they just taste way too starchy to me.

That is very interesting! I find that the thought of potato-carrot juice a bit odd, but I might try it some time. I just need to figure out how to make it. Last night I made a soup with a little bit of stew meat, potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion. It has been cooking on low since midnight last night. I just hope that I feel up to eating now. You say that the poison is from green potatoes. Are all potatoes green or are there some that might not be affected by this? Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kalyni2011, thanks for the generous sharing of such valuable info about raw potato. I love the great savor of cooked potatoes. And doesn't in what way it's prepared. I'm rather picky when eating potato and only the hundred percent well cooked potato is my real cup of tea. The most tasty potato I like is the one available in curry chicken or vegetable. It tastes heavenly if eating together with bread slices. Potato chips and fries are too oily for me. Not only non beneficial to our health we will gain weight as well eating it often. Wow, sweet potato is my favorite food as well. We usually would take steamed sweet potato plus sweet corn as our lunch once in week I haven't tried raw potato before. since it's more beneficial than the cooked one or may be I would like to try to put both raw potato and carrot into the fruit juicer and get a glass of healthy and nutritious juice Happy posting!

Thanks for the information. I dont know about that. All I know carrot juice is good but not so much knowledge about potato juice. But I do like cooked potato in some menu and eating it just plain. Baked potato is nice also. As you said maybe I will be taking less potato fries.

This is good information you have here. I totally didn't know about this. Whenever I eat potato, I eat everything. I haven't really heard of any potato juice being sold here, though. I have got to ask a lot of questions.

Wow, that's a lot of information you provided us there! I've never heard of patato juice and honestly, I'm still having a hard time wrapping the idea in my head. I'm so used to it being cooked western style, I haven't even tried carrot juice even but if potato-carrot juice is that nutritious, I guess I'll give it a try. I can't give up my mashed potatoes and fries though but I will try the juice.
