Theme parties

Have you ever been invited to a theme party or arranged a theme party yourself? What was the theme and what kinds of decorations, activities etc were there? I have been to a couple of theme parties when I was younger. The first theme party that I went to was a geek party. My friends and I had a lot of fun picking out the clothes etc and we took many pictures. The party that I enjoyed the most was a party where the theme was traveling. We wore clothes from around the world, we had food from many different countries, listened to music from different parts of the world etc. I had borrowed a dress that my aunt had bought in Morocco and it was fun to see the clothes that my friends had chosen. I have also been to parties where the themes were the 60s and the paranormal.

I had also been in some. The best I've been in is a Hawaiian party arranged by a highschool classmate back in 2007. It was a going away party for her and decided to put a theme on it. I didn't have any Hawaiian clothes so I just went there wearing a white shirt, plaid shorts and sandals. She was angry at me for not following the dress code. Overall though, it was great.

Actually I wouldn't know kind of clothes to wear if I got invited to a party with a Hawaiian theme. My country has a cold climate and I guess my big winter clothes wouldn't be the right choice I once went to a theme party where the theme was traveling, but that was a bit easier because we were able to choose clothes from any part of the world. It was fun to see the clothes that people had chosen.

Really? That's cool. Themed parties are rare here so it'd be cool to attend another one just for the heck of it.

I think I am a veteran when it comes to planning and executing themed parties. I have 2 daughters and both their parties were themed. During my first daughter's first birthday, her party theme was carebears. We had carebears balloon centerpieces on each table, carebears backpack as giveaways, a 2-layered themed cake and we even rented a care bear mascot. For my second daughter, the theme was rainbow brite. The decors were awesome because the balloon decors on the ceiling was soooo colorful! Aside from my daughters' parties, I was also able to plan a luau party for my dad's 6oth birthday. I did all the decors myself and the cake was awesome! Ot was just one layer but it looked like a beach with a palm tree. When my daughters turn 7, they'll most probably have another themed party. I can't wait!

The carebear theme sounds like a great theme for a birthday party and I can imagine that the rainbow brite theme was really colourful and beautiful. When I was a child my parents didn't arrange theme parties, I guess it wasn't very popular at that time, but I think that themed birthday parties are a great idea. If I had a daughter I would arrange one for her

I have a friend who will not give a party unless there is a theme for it but thankfully she thinks of simple themes so it is not very hard to find a costume. I like theme parties, not only because they are fun, but also because the pictures look great afterwards!

The pictures are also one of the things that I like about theme parties. It is a great way to remember the different costumes, the decorations and everything else. Which kinds of themes did your friend choose for her parties? I have been to a couple of different theme parties and sometimes it was a real challenge to find the right clothes. When I went to a party where the theme was the 60s I was able to borrow some clothes from my mother, but sometimes I have to be creative and find my own way to interpret the theme.

I've been to themed parties several times. Usually, it's a Halloween or anime themed birthday party. Picking costumes was difficult especially if the whole family was invited. We had to find matching costumes.

I have never gone to a theme party where the entire family was invited, but I can easily imagine that it can be difficult to find matching costumes for the entire family. The birthday parties that our family got invited to when I was child weren't theme parties, and I can't really imagine going to a theme party with my parents. I am sure that my brother and I would have loved it, but my father would have refused to wear a costume...

I love attending theme parties and throwing them. The last one I attended was a luau for our church's music department. My sister and I helped plan the whole thing, we came up with decorations, downloaded music, games...it was so much fun, we all smelled like barbecue and came home with wilted leis. Another fun one was when my youngest male cousin turned eight, we threw him a Peter Pan party, his sisters dressed up as Tiger Lily and Wendy, our baby cousin came as the alligator(crocodile?), my sister and I were pirates. I'm thinking of throwing a formal tea party for the kids soon, they will all have to speak with a British accent and dress up like proper gentlemen and ladies.

I have never been to a luau, but I think that it could be an interesting experience. The Peter Pan party also sounds like a fun idea. When I was a child theme parties weren't that popular in my country and I never throwed or attended to a theme party as a child. The theme parties that I attended all took place when I was an adult, but they were still fun

I don't know whether the one participated is a theme party or not. But the organiser did request them to wear in gold color. At that time I regret to have accpected the invitation as it is so difficult to find dress or clothes which are gold in color but look trendy and fashionable. At last I chose to wear in black color and focus more on the accessories to meet the theme: I borrowed a scarf from my mother which is gold and very shiny; I wear a dress with gold buttons on it; I used a mobile phone lanyard with a gold buckle; I wore a high heels with a ribbon in gold color. I was worried when in the party and I swear I will not attend this kind of party in the future for sure!

I can imagine that it was difficult to find the right clothes for a party like that and think that you found a good solution (gold accessories) I don't own a golden dresses or anything like that and it would also have been a challenge for me to find something to wear. Actually I have had that problem more than once when I was going to theme party. Sometimes I have been able to borrow clothes from my mother or from a friend and sometimes I had to be creative to find my own way to interpret the theme.
