That's pretty much embarrassing to answer specially if you are not working or you have no job at all.. hahah or maybe your salary is not good enough to be announced to everyone. Why some people are that rude to ask personal questions to others? how will you answers this question from somebody?

If it is not for important matter that need to know about my salary, i prefer not to tell. I prefer to keep secret about my salary. Most of the time, i will say that my salary is just enough to cover my daily needs. I don't really like to share about my salary with anyone since i feel it is personal matters. Only those who are very close with me, usually knows my actual salary, when i was still working....

I also wonder why some people are so concerned about how much other people's earnings. Do they want to compare? or do they want to borrow money?

It's just someone's nature and interest, like to compare who gets the most salary and is the winner. So far, those who ever asked me about my salary never borrow any money from me...Have you came across one?

No matter how high your salary is, it's still inappropriate to announce your salary in public. You can't have it just right. I mean, if your salary is low, people will think you need a better job. If it's too high, people will think you're bragging about it.

Well, maybe the best thing to do is not to answer them when they ask about salary. Or maybe we can tell them to research because you don't feel like announcing how much you got every month..

Or, a better out is this: Person: Hey, how much is your salary? You: Why? How much is yours? ..And if ever he continues on.. Person: 10,000 bucks a moth. You: Okay, then.

I would adeptly change the topic if anyone asked me personal questions or be vague about them. It would be rude also if we directly show them that we do not like anyone asking personal questions.

Well, if that somebody who ask is your best friend, you might consider answering but if he is just a mere acquaintance, it is indeed rude.

I feel no one should ask such personal questions not even the best friend.

I also think why the people always keep on asking about the others salary. There is nothing to do with that but still people won't stop asking that question. I am working and i will earn money but i don't know what is the use for them by knowing about my salary. If any one ask about that then my first reply is i will ask for what reason they required my salary details then few may get silent and few may say just to know about it then i use to say my salary or else i will say, first you tell for what reason you required then i will tell my salary.

I was always raised not to ask that question about what someone makes. It is just rude and i would answer by saying that you should not be asking that to me. and that i will not answer to such a question.

i get a lot of questions like that lately and i don'y know if people ask that to insult me or my job or they want to know because they might be interested in it too...but bottom line is i give them a straightforward answer about my salary and don't care whether they think it's small or big...what's important is that i love what i do unlike most people who get very high salaries but keep on complaining how they hate their jobs...

Well, I like the way you handle the situation and you are also very honest in saying the right answer about what a person want to know. People ask things for a reason that they are the only ones who know what they mean.

i don't think you need to be embarrassed about your salary especially if you're doing a noble job and not something illegal...:)

It depends on who is asking, but I would either just tell them the truth or tell them that it's none of their business. I agree that it is rude and I don't really see why anyone would ask. I don't believe that it is ever anything to be embarrassed about regardless how little you make or if you don't have a job. The only reason why it would make someone feel embarrassed is if they believe that that is something that makes them who or what they are. I disagree. Money and job are irrelevant to the character of a person.

I don't like when people ask me about my salary. Not because I'm ashamed with it but I don't like them to make comparisons. When I'm asked questions like this, I usually respond with another question: why would you like to know about this? I think it is a polite way to tell the person who ask me about my salary that I don't like to give answers to such questions.

You have a point on this. yes, some people would like to know about the salary of other persons and they will compare it to other friends. I just wonder what's their point of doing it. I observed lots of people doing this.. asking about others whereabouts specially how much they earned.

I would be offended of course since it is a very personal matter. I had a discussion once detailing how my aunt keeps pestering me about my salary rate event though I gave a range to her form time to time in order not to stoop to her level. I guess some people are just plain rude or very forward in terms of asking that kind of questions. They don't even think that the person might be offended by their questions. As I said, I always give a salary range and not the exact amount. I don't want to flaunt but if people really want to now, they should apply for a job postiion similar to mine and work for that salary.

hahahaha!!! that is a good answer that you can give them. Let them try to apply the work you do so that they will know how much is the salary for the kind of job.

It depends on the person who asks. If i know person is having salary greater than me then i will tell him my salary almost equal to his salary. If i know the person who is asking me is having lesser than my salary i will tell him my actual salary. If the person actually knows my salary then too asks me my salary then i will tell my actual salary. if all these people meet me together i will run away from that place.

I like your first answer to someone who ask about how much you earn. Then I would like to know also in this case of why he wants to know how much I earned?

Response depends upon the person who is asking the question ? If its a colleague, you can simply skip the topic. If its family you can avoid by leaving the place of discussion, so they will come to know that you dont like to be asked about your salary.
