Postal service on strike

Canada Post - Canada Post on strike
Canada
June 6, 2011 4:56pm CST
Years ago, that would have meant total chaos. I would have been in despair if the postal service was to be interrupted or stopped. But today, well it doesnt really matter if they go on strike or not. On the news, they said that the postal workers were shooting themselves in the foot by going on strike. They dont have the leverage anymore to threaten anyone.......I agree. Only a few people still use the postal service nowadays. Some orders from ebay or online and rely on the post sometimes but it can all be done with UPS also. Would it bother you if your postal service was on strike?? What do you use the post for now??

Well if postal service would be gone, I will be one of the few who will feel sad. I have penpals you see. Hehe. I don't want to lose them. By the way, what was the reason for the strike anyway.?

Oh dear, so you dont keep in touch with your penpals via the internet and emails?? I never had penpals but it sure sounds like fun. Good for you. They say its not for pay, I think it has to do with merging some new technology and therefore firing some people.....but dont quote me on that because Im not sure why. Thanks for sharing and I hope you can keep in touch with your penpals!

Hahah. Yes I keep in touch with my penpals through letters only. Though we are friends in facebook. Letter seems better. I don't like firing people. It sounds sad. :(

You're right, firing people is very sad, especially in these hard times now. Good for you to have your penpals on facebook, yet still keep in touch via mail. Thats great!!

Though it doesn't matter now if postal service is working or not people have switched over to so many fast means of communications, but there are offices and certain parts of my country which still rely on postal services and I am also feeling sad that since now its not such an essential service any more there is no one to pay any heed to their woes. They must be facing real tough time now.

Yes indeed they must feel pretty bad that nobody is complaining because they are on strike. The media are barely covering it. They do only to let us know what cities are affected that day. Its too bad because it used to be a pillar of society.....times are a changing!! Thanks!

There's no leg to stand on. What was the statistic on 680 news the other day, something like either 17 or 37% of consumers don't use Canada Post anymore, they do online billing, etc, and it's much easier. My boss is getting sick and tired of her mail not getting to her, especially when it's from our clients and she's waiting for checks in the mail. She's now considering opening a bank account strictly for customers to pay her through. Hopefully they get their act together soon before the strike hits Toronto. They were still delivering mail today I saw.

Yes they will be delivering in Toronto today. My guess is it'll be over before it gets to big cities. I think they do 2 or 3 cities at a time for a day only, so thats not too bad. Yes your boss should definitely open a bank account or use Paypal.....now thats really fast and I think all companies should use Paypal now. Hope they wont hit any big cities then....fingers crossed. Thanks for sharing!

That would be quite disastrous in my country. The postal service is still very much in use here, as they're not just delivering packages and mail, but are also a one-stop shop for many rural communities. For urbanites the lack of a postal service may not be so keenly felt, but it's usually those in the rural areas who are heavily affected.

Lucky you it didnt happen in YOUR country. Here they go on strike in different cities every day, so I guess its not so bad. Nobody is complaining so far lol. Thanks for sharing!!

Hi there, I do not use it as much either, except for regular letters and correspondence that some companies will not use electronic services. I see this is happening in the UK and it truly has to be a big mess. I can't imagine it happening here and things be smooth, as our postal service here is very busy as many still use package delivery services with them as it is much cheaper way to go. Maybe because I don't use it as much it would not affect me too badly but there are many who do and will be affected terribly, if it happened here.

Here too some people use it for packages but if push come to shove, UPS can be used and its much faster too. I guess we dont rely on the postal service that much anymore as I havent heard anyone complaining about it yet. Thanks and I hope they wont go on strike in the UK then.

Actually I use the US postal service all the time to ship products to customers. It's actually cheaper than UPS, unless you are shipping internationally--even then it's sometimes cheaper. So, I guess I'd be pretty upset if they went on strike around here.

Oh wow, I guess you'd be in deep doodoo if it were to happen in the US. Well I hope you dont have to ship to too many people living up here in Canada then. Thanks!!
