Like many other mylotters, I have a sleep disorder. I am a severe chronic insomniac and have been since 1975. I always have difficulty with sleep but sometimes, my insomnia is more severe than other times depending on what is going on in my life. I had a very serious episode beginning a week ago Friday. From a week ago Friday until yesterday, I could not sleep more than two or three hours each night. Actually, I should not say night. I could not fall asleep until 6 or 7 a.m. and could only sleep until 9 or 10 a.m. And there were one or two nights in this time period when I could not go to sleep at all. During the day, I might be able to doze for five or 10 minutes here and there. I could not nap. Finally, I was able to nap two hours yesterday. And was able to get a decent sleep last night. I feel so good compared to how I have been feeling. Insomnia is a terrible thing to have.

I am pleased that you were able to get some quality sleep. It seems insomnia is one of the last great mysteries. So many people suffer from it, and really there is not much that can be done for it. I understand that it is a pattern of sorts, among other things. I know that autoimmune diseases sometimes contribute. I am glad that I do not have it.

Mine has been diagnosed as a neurological problem. I have learned to cope with it and manage it. It is normally not as bad as it was last week. You seem to know more about it than most non-insomniacs do.

I seem to run into lots of insomniacs all over the internet. I also have done a little bit of work in nursing homes and with other medical situations. Sleep management is hard. I would be more likely to be narcoleptic. I can usually drop off to sleep instantly, and sometimes do so during the day while typing.

When I can not sleep, I get up and play on line. That helps me relax and better deal with my insomnia. I also watch TV. I have digital cable with all the premium channels. Watching a program or movie that really interests me can help me relax and sometimes fall asleep.
Unfortunately last night, I could only get about four or five hours sleep. But I am having a relaxing and leisurely day. I may be able to nap or get a decent sleep tonight.

I totally agree with you that insomnia is a terrible thing to have because I used to experience this for quite a few times in the past. It drove me crazy when I could not fall asleep. Luckily it occurred to me once in a while. If it were to happen frequently, I would have no idea how to deal with it. If I don't feel energetic during the day, I cannot work effectively and efficiently. It would make me feel painful. I am really sorry for the insomnia you have and wish you to see a good doctor for it. Take care, bostonphil.

I have been under medical care and counseling since 1975 when I first developed it. It has been diagnosed as a neurological problem. The last week was an unusually bad week re my insomnia. I am glad that i seem to have broken the severe episode that I have been experiencing.

having not enough sleep is not good.. been sick few days ago because of lack of sleep.. but I disciplined myself and trying to bring back the old days sleep routine of mine.. the normal sleep, I mean!
Lately, been sleeping on or before 2 AM but I tried to go to bed at 8 PM, at first I wasn't successful but I tried really hard.. I don't drink milk, but I did just to sleep! and its effective!
