Do you think people post too much information in their statuses on facebook. Like when they will be away from their house. I think this gives potential thieves the perfect information on when to rob. What are your thoughts on this and facebook use in general.

Hi Yukonjoey, You are right. Its always insecure and unsafe to share too much of personal details on the FB. It becomes like a open book for everyone to read our personal and naturally paves way for fradulents and unexpected things.

Without a doubt people give far too much away. I have seen a "game" that people play where they have to answer questions, however a lot of the answers that they give could be the answers to "secret questions" on email accounts or sometimes even bank accounts. People also give a lot of personal information away as well meaning that gossip can be started, or rumours that you really wouldn't want to be going around about yourself. A simple internet search about anyone can find many things that you probably wouldn't even realise were circulating on the internet about you.

Yes I definitly believe that some people put way to much information on their statuses. Not just about when their not going to be home but a lot of personal stuff that really shouldn't be share with the whole world. People kind of us facebook as their own personal outlet but i think it's better to get a diary or journal if you want to let out all the emotion instead of sharing it with the whole world.

I must agree, that sometimes, people tend to spill information about personal and important stuff on their facebook statuses especially when they feel bored. These information may be used "against" them if they'll be too careless. But then again, the creation of such programs are for self-expression, thus giving them freedom to do or write what they desire (but at their own risk at that).

Sometimes it is quite annoying to have somebody keep updating there status and these status are always something means nothing to me, for example, "oh, its time to wake up", and after 5 mins, "oh, its time to leave for work", 10 mins later, "how unluckily I am, I missed the bus!"...These meaningless status causes me trouble in viewing other friends' status. So usually in some extreme cases, I make use of the function given by facebook -- to hide somebody's status and news in news feed. But most of the time I try to tolerate this kind of behaviour because just think in an other way round, these friends may just want to grab some attentions from others. They may have no real friends in reality. I may sometimes leave them comments and chat with them. I think you and I may also have to face this kind of situation someday. So just be considerate.

I do not feel like people really give too much information on their facebook status section too often. I am actually more concerned with what information facebook may or may not share with parties that I am unaware of. In the end, you have to make the decision about if you are going to use facebook or not. If you feel that your privacy is in danger, and you are not comfortable with it, then you should simply make sure that you do not get an account.

yeah..this is true. They share too much information. A funny incident happened few days ago. A girl had created an invitation on Facebook about her birthday. More than 15000 people gathered in her house to attend her birthday party. She had to leave her house and flew away. This is another type of threat other than the potential danger from thieves.
