just out of interest. basically for a short summary. for many years I have been a Polytheistic and Pantheistic Pagan, following a Traditional Witchcraft path, but increasingly aware of the parallels between my ancestral path and that of New Orleans style Voodoo. when asking a good friend of mine for advice on some magical help with a moment of financial difficulty, she gave me a recipe for a Voodoo floorwash, and recommended I listen to Dr Johns Litanie des Saintes, and raise the Lwa, asking for their help. that night I had very complex dreams, where the strongest remaining detail was that I was able to swim like a snake. on my belly, and on the surface of the water, rather than in the water, and very fast. in a swampy, bayou type setting. I was showing people where they could safely walk through the swamp, but I was able to swim the open water. this and other dreams are pointing very strongly to the influence of Papa Legba. within days, between my husband and I, we had nearly £200 in money from unexpected sources, meaning that we are back on the level financially. and the interesting dreams continue. along with what is coming across very strongly as requests for a shrine. the more I research Papa Legba, the more I am seeing his influence. and it's a very exciting prospect. my friend, after the success I had, said that it's unusual to be as successful with the Lwa, just like that. and in her words "they done adopted your sweet lil a s s" so I was wondering, as this influence on my personal path is new but definitely getting much stronger, if anyone else had any personal experiences with the Lwa, any advice, or any stories of their own to help me progress with this. many thanks to anyone that responds well. I expect there will be plenty who miss the point of it entirely.

This is supposed to be used to nurish and to strengthen. I haven't had any experience with this but thought it interested that you ended your discussion with feeling alot of us woould miss your point entirely. Did you find that to be true? I actually thought you wrote this out very clearly and wondered why you would feel that way.

because a lot of people have very innacurate ideas of what Voodoo is all about. I know there's people here that understand it. but a lot of people won't. and I'm sure you know as well as I do, there are some things you can discuss here, and people will see what some hollywood film says as the ultimate truth, over someone explaining what the followers ACTUALLY beleive in.

I think that movies have done that just they have given people a very negative idea of witches. Some people are open minded and others very closed minded. I think it is out of fear. I just recently saw a very interesting documentary on vodou/voodoo and it sure answered alot of questions I had.

Where does this Lwa coming from? I mean does he come from africa or from the american indians? Is he a god or a spirit? and is it a religion and if it is who founded it? Interesting subject.

I'm not sure who could be considered to have founded it, it goes back a long long way. the lwa, there are more than one, are sort of intermediary spirits, who have influence on human lives, originating in Africa. the slave trade brought them to other parts of the world, where various cultures became blended with that of the slaves, so there are variations in practice of working with the lwa. I'm new to experience with them, so I'm not sure of all the cultural or historical aspects.
