Is it important to tag?

I've been tagging every time because it tells us to. Is it important to tag. I feel that tagging is part of being a participant of the discussion... or the participation part of the discussion that helps our earnings. So do you think it is important, or not?

Hi pointless tagging is nothing to do with your earnings it only helps in finding out the similar discuccions when you enter tag in search engine.I always tag the response i give or the discussion i start. We can avoid duplication of discussion by checking through search engive by entering tag when we start a new discussion. I think one should have the habit of tagging because it help if we want to search old discussions.

If I do not notification turned on for you then I may not find your discussion and then could not comment or get involved in the discussion. If I do not get involved in the discussion then I cannot have any fun here or earn for what I might have said.

If you use the right search words, that is true. I saw some discussions yesterday where the posters said they checked the search and they didn't find anything. So many people feel it is not important, and that may be why some don't show up in the searches.

I think it's not really important for as long as you've done responding.. :0

You may want to read here why tagging is important to your or anyone's discussion. http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq9.aspx#3

Yes, I've learned too that it is important. I though am only tagging my own discussions now.. i might tag another's discussion if I feel it is relevant.

This is what myLot tell us about the importance of tagging: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq9.aspx I tag everything, even discussions where I only read without participating. I use relevant, similar tags and only a few. If there were tags concerning 'tagging' on this topic then on the right there would be a column of topics with similar tags. Until someone else tags this with 'tag' they will not appear. When we start a topic we can add a maximum of 10 tags. When we submit the post, 5 of them will appear in alphabetical order. Then when more tags are added the 5 most added tags will appear.

MyD, I know this, but I must be tagging wrong, because I have had good discussions I wanted to look up, (mostly my own) but end up having to go through all my pages because nothing comes up and or nothing similar to what I was looking for.

I have done that before, but what I have not done, and may try, is to search and when I don't see mine, then I'll open a discussion, (that is, if there is one) and I'll see if a similar post that is mine pops up..

Thank you Mysdianait. That answers a lot about tagging. It's nice to know what you do too... I may do the same.. even if I don't respond.

I admit, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Mostly, I not. I've seen the tagging system be used to insert insulting tags. Usually done to offend. When and if that happens, you can use the report ! on your posted discussion to ask administration to remove them.

Tags make it easier for others to find your reply or the discussion. It may or may not help with your earnings but it will definitely help mylot in the search engine and give mylot more prominence - which may also help the site earn more money and survive longer.

Hi Pointless, I usually do not tag my discussions, responses, etc... I do not believe it affects our earnings in anyway. We earn from discussing, tasks, etc... not tagging our posts. Tagging simply helps other users find your discussion when they are using the MyLot search.

Did you see that column over there-- Topics with similar tags appear there, with the one that has received the most recent activity at the top. If you tag your own topics correctly, they could be there and risk receiving more respones/comments Surely we don't only do things if we earn money for doing them?

I am going to try and make a good effort to tag properly. Not that it will make me earn, but if I do it right, I might get a lot of traffic on my discussion and then when I respond to the people on my discussion then I will earn good.... maybe. So my purpose to tag would not be to earn but that more people will find my discussion.

MyD, are you saying I don't tag my posts correctly? Maybe I need a lesson in tagging, because I rarely can find a post when I try searching by the tags, even my own..

Personally tagging is something that I never do unless it is a discussion that I have just started or one I am responding back too to help someone else be able to get more responses from as well. It does help the discussions to be found a little easier that is true. But since it takes so much extra time I usually just do it when there are no tags there before.

I just responded to your post but lost it. So now I have to start all over again. I was tagging every discussion I was on but now I am only tagging my own.

Hi PointlessQuestions, we have learned that how useful tag as its rule to every discussion as well as other posts here from what we have read from the guidelines. Therefore it's a must for me to pick keywords as tag whenever I complete writing a discussion. I would fill in key words related to the content of any discussion which I have come across where there isn't any tag shown yet Have a nice day

I am not sure whether the tag is important or not. But most of the time I will write in the tag and I don't want to leave it blank. I love China

Hi youless, tag is the keywords for us to do topics or discussions or blogs or photos, etc here conveniently. If without any tag we could hardly find any item which we are looking for.

I was interested in what the others had to say, because yes I do tag, both what I start and what I respond to. I do this mostly because if I don't and I have an ongoing discussion, then the "submit a tag" will pop up each time, by tagging it shouldn't. I said "shouldn't" because I have a couple posts where I tagged and tagged, and that stupid, "submit tags" pops up every time.. As for finding a discussion with the tags? Yeah, I guess that can work, occasionally. Nine times out of ten, it doesn't work for me..:(

Hi Pointless, I think maybe what MyD said, about tagging correctly, is the reason my posts don't come up when I search for them..So maybe I am wrong, and it works, you just got to be a good tagger..

I dont know if it helps with earnings or not but i tag to help the mylot community. When the tagging screen comes up it says this is your final step so i have always tagged my responses and my discussions with many tags. I also rate discussions and responses although very rarely do i rate negative i just usually dont rate positively if i think the comments are very rude i will rate negative.

Tagging may not increase your earnings unless you count the fact that tags help to put discussions into groups that allow you to find discussions to comment on and join into the discussions. So for that reason I think that tags are important. More on this is here, http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq9.aspx#3.

I see that when it is done correctly it will put similar discussions off to the right of the discussion.. that's a good thing.

I participated a discussion which mention about TAG! The reason why we should include tag before we submit our post is to used it when we are searching some discussions to avoid duplication of post. It was discuss on this post: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2541162.aspx

Hi Rose888, I'm sure the one you participated in is in itself a duplicate then. There are thousands of people here, with many of the the same thoughts... they are bound to be repeated. Your link isn't the first discussion of this kind.. just one of hundreds probably... same as all discussions here unless they are of personal or unique topics. I might want to ask a question or talk about something in a different way than someone else, so it is not a duplicate if it is not copied, right? A duplicate would indicate the same as?

I am learning more about the search though, from what Aunt D (Mydianait) is saying up above.... it's very interesting. Yes, we all should read the guidelines more than once, even.. Thanks for being part of my discussion. I love your rose avatar.

I don't think that you really have to tag. It won't change much, with regards to your earnings. Sometimes, I do tag, while other times, I don't tag at all. It does depend on the time, my mood, and such.

I'm tagging my own discussions. I probably won't tag anyone doses anymore. I can't see that it would help or hurt. Surely the op would have already tagged his or her discussion the way they wanted it.

I don't really tag my replies. I think it is just best to tag your discussions that you start because maybe other members of Mylot are doing a search then it would make it easier for them to find your discussion. I don't think Mylot pays us any extra to tag our discussions or responses. Good Luck.

It will be posted regardless. The function of the keywords (tags) is to find this article and others like it, I guess.

I think when we should not tag too seriously about the money that we should say what is useful or necessary information for everyone so everyone should stay away
