Are you happy with your job ? Is it something that you planned to do or dreamed about while you were studying or growing up ? Recently I happened to read some reports which suggested that an individual does what he/she wants to do. We get to hear many people saying that they never wanted to be an actor or an architect or a doctor but wanted to be in a different profession or wanted something else ...according to experts this is not true, one finally chooses the profession that is closest to one's heart...
What do you all have to say to this?

Hi sreedhar,I guess one cannot always get what one wants in life. We also have to have dreams that can be realised. In your case you seem to have compromised with life and now making the most of your life as it is today. That is the right attitude. All the best and have a great day

Hi sreedhar, You must never blame or put all your faith in fate or destiny. To a certain extent it no doubt cushions our own mental state but also pulls us back. You can still analyse your life and try to make the best of it. We all have our failures and bad times, but we have to learn to rise above them ..all the best and have a nice day

No, my job is not my dream job. I think the truth is not many people are actually doing the job that they like the most. Life is just full of compromise. I believe timing has a big part in it that when the time comes, maybe the job is not the best but at that moment, it may seem good enough to take which in the end ruin our lives.

Hi faisai, thanks a lot for your response. It does happen that in life sometimes you grab what is offered without really thinking about it carefully.I was reading an interesting article the other day where a psycho analyst had this opinion to share - " Very often individuals face considerable problems while choosing a career for their future lives. They cannot properly evaluate their skills and achievements in order to choose occupation and be able to succeed in it.Instead they make wrong choices and end up getting frustrated...It is best to evaluate oneself - the skills and preferences before planning a career "

No I'm not happy with my job and it was never something I thought I'd be doing growing up. But opportunity came and I grabbed it and I guess that's how life is. Take it or leave it.

Hi silentwill,I absolutely agree with you. In fact that's what I wrote in my above response.Life is never the same and we all change depending on the circumstances. Our priorities, likes and views change so also our choices in life...It is a good thing to be able to do whatever seems the most suitable and not have any negative thoughts or regrets ...all the best and have a nice day

I've been farming since 1953 and I love it so much I'll never retire. 30 years ago I bought some Honey Bees and learned how to keep them. Since then my boys and I have expanded the operation and we are all working together with the bees. I have almost 400 colonies that I look after myself in the summer, and in the winter I go south until the snow and ice melts. Life is so good I just want to keep on Keeping Bees and making Honey!

Hi barehugs, you are lucky that you like what you are doing. You are also doing something healthy environmental friendly and remain close to nature.I am sure that it is a very interesting and satisfying job. In my ancestral home we have bee houses and we get enough honey for our consumption. There is nothing like farming and being one with nature - thanks a lot for sharing your views and all the best

what i do now is one of those closest to my heart. i dreamed of becoming an accountant when i was young. today, i couldnt see myself surviving becoming an accountant. it seemed not a job that i would be comfortable with.
there are people who truly does not like what they're doing but there are factors that keep them doing what they have to do and it's the money being earned.

I agree that some people end up with some job simply because they didnt get the right opportunity to pursue what they wanted to do in life.It happens with many people. According to Psychiatrists many such ambitions are misplaced since the person is unable to fulfil them. Individuals dream of pursuing a certain career without analysing whether they could do so and also whether is suited to their own personality and temperament...

Im a nurse but Im not happy with my job right now. Yes, i want to work as a nurse in a hospital but not as a researcher. In my case, I love to work as a staff nurse but unfortunately, the hospitals i applied to did not accept me because! I know no one from high places or from the administration of the company where i want to work. (philippines! yeah!) I took the test in one of the biggest provincial hospital in cebu and ranked the 2nd spot, then joined the panel interview. unfortunately months passed but i wasnt called, only i knew that those who were hired were people who were nephews of the people from the admin and one was the daughter of the provincial judge. it was really disappointing :( nonetheless, im still fighting for what i want.. to work as a hospital nurse somewhere in this world APART from the philippines.. my country is hopeless :(
well, no one will last in a profession they dont want unless they have grown to love their work. :) i dont think they should be called liars but just someone who is confused of his true passion :D

Hi piggychan, I am sorry to hear that you are not getting the right openings in your job although you like what you are doing. Most of the developing countries face this problem of favoritism , it is also the case here in India.I hope that you are able to better your position in the future - all the best and enjoy your day

Those people are lying because they want to protect themselves. For me, my dream is to become a secretary but my dream cannot be realized. I think all I ever wanted is a decent income and working with cooperating people no matter at home or at workplace.

To answer your question, yes I am happy with my job. It allows me to be the creative person that I am and provides me with a very satisfactory salary that comes with great benefits. So, yes, I love my job. Is it something that I planned to do? Not necessarily. When I was growing up, I always wanted to be a TV repoter, but fate had other plans for me, so I worked for the creative arm of a tv network, but I still work in TV, so its ok.
Sometimes, we plan our lives and things don't go our way. That's a reality, especially when it comes to choosing our careers. What saddens me are people who take jobs that are far away from their dreams, but they choose their jobs based on how much pay they will get. For example, I know of someone who wanted to become a creative writer but he chose to be a medical representative because the latter is a more lucrative profession. I also know a girl who wanted to work for a television network but accepted a job in a call center because she needs a high-paying job.
I know that sometimes, people choose to be practical and I understand that. As I've mentioned before, I am not exactly doing what I've always wanted to do. But at least it's closer to my dream and the salary is not the sole reason I am in this job. I also love what I'm doing. Don't you think it's so sad to wake up in the morning and you would have to drag yourself to work because you are not excited about your job? Wouldn't it be cool to be able to do what you really love and at the same time get paid for it? I hope more people fight for what they really want in their lives. Then I think this world would be a better place.

I agree that one has to love what one is doing. We do have ups and downs in every aspect of our life similarly, there may be certain things that one is not too happy with ones job.I too have not been able to achieve what I thought was an ideal job. In fact, looking back I have some doubts as to whether it was ideal for me since what I presently do - teaching seems like a more suitable job. Growing years are such that one gets carried away or wants to do what a successful cousin, sibling or a friend has achieved without analysing the practicality of it with refernece to ones own life. So, I am inclined to believe that what job one is able to do well and is comfortable with is the job most suitable ...all the best
