After four days, today only I checked mail; a friend from mylot was kind enough to suggest this home remedy for back pain.
Mine is pain in waist due to the scooter journey on rough village road. At present I am using the P.E.M.F.; Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field Therapy machine for fast recovery, as I told in previous discussion.
But what the friend has emailed is certainly useful, so I share it for benefit of members who have ‘back-pain’.
It says, about 80% of adults suffer from back pain at some time in their lives.
Backaches are categorized as acute and chronic, acute pain is cause by movement or excessive use of the back which can injure the muscles, ligaments, bones, tendons.
Chronic pain is a reoccurring backache that results of normal movements or for no particular reason and can also affect the tendons, ligaments, bones.
Problems with some organs can cause back pain as well, for example kidney infection, prostate problems, female pelvic disorder, bladder, and even constipation can be felt on the lower back. This site offers home remedies for back pain and all the above mentioned problems.
Back pain is very common during pregnancy, due to the considerable anatomical changes and stress in the body. Carrying a child changes the position of your internal organs putting a huge amount of pressure on the lower spine. The increase in body weight, the muscle relaxing effects of the hormone progesterone and the change in your center of gravity contribute to the problem. If you have back pain you can feel also muscle aches, locked areas in your back, stiff neck and your whole body will ache.
Other causes of back pain can be poor postural habits, strains, micro trauma, muscle tension and nutritional deficiencies. When repeated episodes of injury are added to this mix, the discs become thin, deteriorated or ruptured. These events can also lead to arthritic related conditions. With nerves close by, swelling or compression in the spine often results in neuritis, lumbar neuralgia, or sciatica.
Home remedies for back pain are used with far more safety than drugs, especially in pregnant women.
Home Remedies for Back Pain
Ask someone massage the affected area with herbal oils using knuckles and increasing pressure slowly. After a few minutes you will feel less discomfort. This gets rid of tension and relaxes the muscles in that area.
We do this, using mustard oil in which few cloves of garlic is boiled.
Every time you lift something, remember to bend your knees first, this will prevent your lower back from getting tense causing damage to your spine and back muscles.
Never twist while lifting this can have bad effect on your vertebrates.
Women should avoid lifting heavy objects in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy.
Do not sit in couches; always sit in firm chairs supporting the lumbar area with a pillow. This will help you keep your waist and lower back in the proper position.
I am sure it will be useful for many here.
Please respond, add your tips if any and views.
Thanks in advance.

hello professor,
yours could have been some excessive use of back muscles due to the distance of the travel. it is no longer used to such kind of beating like the rough road you passed through.
with all these, i guess i can only add a little home remedy advise. little mentholated liniment and a soft soothing massage on the pain area and then place some warm bag on top of it for a few minutes and rest.
hope that helps.
have a nice day.

Hi professor, thanks for sharing all these great tips here. I do have a back pain sometimes when i don't sit properly or sleep in the correct posture. But, i always use the home remedy by massaging that pain area with herbal oils to relief the pain. Besides that, i also do some floor mopping whenever i have back pain and believe me, it can gone quite fast. I am not sure whether this tactic works for everybody or not. It was taught by my mother and she was using it whenever she had back pain.

Hi Professor
I do hope your back pain is getting better and yes I too have about a year ago and before had a lot of back pain and it was always attributed to my sitting position and or too quick of lifting actions. I have since learned to take it slower and bend at the knees instead of putting so much strain on my back.
I will have to try your remedies if it happens again someday. As what I was using were heating packs.

Hi professor. I would like to add some more to the list here.
People having back pain should exercise everyday(preferably after consulting with a doctor or a physiotheraphist). I have been advised to exercise twice a day for half an hour each time. It really helps keep the pain at bay.
Long hours of sitting or standing or lying down in the same position should be avoided. Take breaks from sitting or standing every half an hour for about 2 to 5 minutes. Stretch if possible.
Keep a pillow under your knees while lying down straight and between your legs while lying down on your sides and keep the knees bent. This prevents putting pressure on the back while sleeping.
Spread your legs to distribute your weight evenly when you are standing. And while standing and washing the dishes or cooking or any work which requires standing for a long time, keep one leg a little elevated or on a small stool so that it puts less strain on the lower back.
And never stay in one position too long. Keep moving. It will definitely reduce the pain.
Hope these helped. These were the guidelines given by my physiotheraphist for my back pain and they do work! Good day.

back aches is not really a disease but a symptom of some other underlying disease or bad conditions of our body or internal organs, rare occasions where a back ache is just a back ache like me who has a mild congenital or inborn scoliosis ( mild inborn back or spine curvature), that's why I learned to massage myself whenever I feel pain from being too cold for a long time
, Everybody shoulde be careful with their backs because nobody gets younger only older

I make my own oil sir cause a local medicineman taught me his secret years ago cause non of his sons wanted to learn the talent, it's made from coconut oil, ginger and many more kinds of roots that is sometimes hard to find with very difficult names. I also apply tuba leaves. Sometimes I just buy the commercial efficasent oil. Do you know any better oil or how to make oil? Maybe you could teach me.

hi professor I was just thinking before I came here to Gold Crest
I slept on a firm Sealy Posturepedic bed and now I am on an ordinary
probably el cheapo mattress. Now my left hip is again aching so much
and am wondering if its this spongy soft mattress as I am used to
a firm mattress and I never had any pain in my left hip before. I
suppose its arthritis but why now? As I take some pain pills for my
injured knee it keeps my left hip pain at bay thank goodness for
that.

Mommy
Bed should be bit hard, those made from coconut coir embedded in foam is best, but prone to mice, very soft foam is not good, these days high density foam mattress of 5 to 6 inch thickness is the best, they are neither soft nor hard, i have that only in each room
Thank you so much for sharing
Enjoy life to fullest.

Lately I have had alot of back pain! Right in my lower back! i find out it is not do to an injury or anything like that. I has to do with my sinus's. When my sinus's start to drain they drain right down my back! Mostly on the left side! Noning gets rid of it! It only goes away when my sinus's aren't bothering me! It really sucks and wish I didn't have the sinus problem! It sucks having bad sinus's problems!

I have herniated discs in my back due to a work related accident that I was involved in six years ago. I can go for months at a time when my back doesn't bother me at all, but then I will have a period of time where I can barely move. I will have things shift around because of my movements and during those times it is all that I can do to be able to get up and move. With that said, the thing that works for me is hot baths. It certainly doesn't take the pain away, but it does relieve it.

All that you said is so true professor! Here our back problem people often come from the way people drive causing disability for the rest of their life. Our youth with dive into shallow water head first (they saw someone else do it). Some people forget to lift with their knees. Even a fall off an office chair and seriously injure their back. I wish you well professor. Every day I thank God for my healthy back (so far).
