Computer Glitch......now what????

My computer just had a schizoid fit and one of my responses got inadvertently posted twice. I sent a note to admin and I hope that the person's post (or anyone else's) is not deleted because of my computer error. Is Alice or Alex around to offer advice or to help? I think that this hiccup is a sign for me to go to lunch and take a break. This discussion will be continued soon..... Do you think that it would be helpful for members to delete/correct their own posts here?

I didn't get your note, but I saw this discussion and did a quick look for the post in question. Nothing to worry about, I removed it for you. You don't ever need to worry about an entire thread being deleted for a post in it. If a post is in violation I remove the individual post, not the entire discussion.

Thanks so much for such an expedient reply. Like I just wrote, I did not want any harm to come to the original poster for my error. I appreciate your expediency and thanks for the removal. Should I be calling you Alex or Alice......lol?

Beside each of your posts is teh (!) icon. When you make a double post, often due to a connection error, you can use it to ask admin to remove the duplicate. When he logs on again he will see the report and remove it. No I don't think that we should be able to delete/correct our own posts. We have a preview button so that we cna check for errors before submitting our posts and in the case of duplicates like yours, myLot provided that (!) function specifically for us to report our own posts therefore admin is aware that there will be some deletions because of it.

I guess it does. It was an addition requested by users and implemented with the last update just over two years ago. Before it was introduced, the only way to report our own posts was by asking a friend to report them.

Ok, that (!) is for us to report when we are having a problem with our own post. I think I have hit this button in the past by accident....lol Yes, sometimes we are moving so fast that we may forget or go quickly past the preview or for whatever reason, we miss it. So, I was thinking, in this case, it would be nice to handle that sort of deletion by ourselves. As long as admin can correct it from the (!) key, I guess that suffices (and probably works best) for MyLot.

Definitely a helpful addition....How long have you been here? Please do not say 100 years...you must have seen many changes over time and you're still here, that's says a lot about how you feel about this site....Do you frequent other sites on the net or basically just spend most of your time here?

Hi Beaufly, It has happened to me also as one day i don't what happened 2 similar posts were posted by me on same discussion but i abused(!) one of the response and mentioned the reason for abusing the response but really that was the first time i used it i was scared will my points will be cut due to abusing but don't know what happened after that. Is there any effect on us if we ourself or someelse abuses our response or it is just deleted from the server. Also what happens if some has rated that response & it get deleted by admin do those ratings counted??? These are some questions for which i did not get answer.

Hi sjvg, If you used the (!) key to report it, that's ok as long as you let admin know that you had an issue or duplicate response and that will alert them to remove it. If you gained anything for the extra response, I think you will lose it (as it was a duplicate anyway). I was more concerned with the original poster and did not want them to lose any of their points for their topic. From my understanding, admin will come in and delete the extra response. It will not count anymore for anything as it was a duplicate. I do not think that you would keep any ratings for a deleted response. Basically, I do not think that we lose because it was originally an error anyway. Admin was quick and swift and I was so happy that Alice/Alex joined our discussion because that added weight for not only me but for anyone coming after me to read the discussion.

I think that because the extra response is deleted, then you probably will lose the rating count too. It would seem that this may be an automatic response for myLot but at least, you would have received what was in your original intention of the one post. You were not aiming to be double rated or to receive double points so it seems that you are "made whole," and you are put back in your correct position. Don't you think so?

And what about the rating if i had received on the responses which were deleted will those be counted too or they will also be deleted like earnings.

Hey, no big deal, just report it. I think you're stressing out a little too much, I'm sure they understand and have dealt with this sort of thing before.

If this topic had not been started we could not have been certain that 'they' understand. Now that we have admin's response we know

I did report it and we got something extra as MsD has mentioned. Admin came on and gave an official response for everyone who may not have known this info. I had already contacted support so this post was to get a public response for everyone and if people read through the discussion here, they may actually learn something. I am all about transparency and the sharing of information.
