Early this week I made a discussion about a letter we received from the FBI that was very threatening. Well Hubbby went into our local FBI office, I wasn't even sure we had one here, but he spoke with a very nice agent, showed him the letter and was reasured that it would be forwarded to the correct people. We were right it was spam, so if yuo get anything like that from the FBI they would like to see a copy of it. I think this information was even on the national TV.

I figured that it was a scam to start with, but you are right that we should let the people know that head the business, department, etc. of places that are being used as a lure for a scam. It is in doing that which we are able to try to get the scamsters to stop the stupid and childish games that they are playing. I only wish that there were more people like you and I that would do our little part in getting that junk to stop. Too many innocent people fall pray to these things.

What will they think of next!!! Not long ago, I think it was Playstation who was hacked and they stole all the people's information. That said, hackers have many ways to find your email address and then sell them so you can be flooded with spams of all kinds. There are free program on the internet that lets you know if an email you send to someone is being received......therefore telling you that theres actually someone at the other end receiving the emails you send out......hackers use those programs. That said, it means that when you receive your email in your inbox, hackers are being told that indeed, someone is on the receiving end. How to fix that problem is by asking your internet provider if you can get your emails directly on their servers, therefore not in your inbox. This will prevent any spyware or viruses and it will tell hackers that there is NOBODY at the other end. We have all been told to NOT open emails, to NOT even read them if we dont know the sender. I get my emails via my ISP server and I can also tell them when an email is spam so they look into it and then take actions. Hope this helps!

I seem to have missed the discussion, but I have seen that type of letter. I usually ignore Them. If they come in the mail, I will tend to take it to the post office. It is good to share, though so that no one is scammed.

I might have missed your earlier discussion. Glad that your case has been well taken care of. There have been a lot of cases spamming online that the relevant authorities should look into the matter seriously. Lately it was reported in our papers that a group of China citizens have been operating in my country scamming people online with their well planned trickery. They are smart as they move around to other countries to avoid their IP being detected. They were caught by our police intelligence and deported immediately.

I have not seen your other discussion. Odd's are it's a scam unless you are in trouble with them they would have no need to contact you. I'm glad it was nothing and you checked it out to be sure.

There have been a lot of scams here too. One of the biggest was a contractor scam. Apparently there were people posing as contractors and taking advantage of the people with storm damage. They were asking for part of the payment upfront and then never coming to do the work. It was on the news here. Scary how there are always people put there preying on others.

Oh yeah, a lot of scam spread out in our community, and some people won't know about it, they might think it is a true letter from FBI. The best bet is to forward such letter to the real FBI personnel, and let them to verify such letter for you. It is the best verification method.

They also have a website where you can forward such things to them. I don't think the feds would threaten on their first encounter with a suspect. They certainly would not give you a heads up via phone or email to alert you. They would come directly to you.
