By now you probably would have read the next explosive expose about Catholic bishops that accepted millions of pesos worth of bribes in forms of money and expensive vehicles from Gloria Macapagal Arroyo while she was still the president. One of these was the Butuan bishop Juan De Dios Pueblos who in his most unholy act ever called on President Aquino to resign, apparently to show his support to Gloria embattled with mounting corruption charges.
What have we done to deserve this? Corrupt policemen, corrupt generals...and now corrupt priests? Arent these people supposedly should be holier than us and doesnt collect worldly treasures like a multimillion dollar Pajero? Is Rizal correct when he mocked these holy men as nothing more than scoundrels and hypocrites? Is the Catholic Church an obsolete institution that lost its way and its credibility because of the sins and excesses of its priests?
And what about Gloria Arroyo? Do you think God will accept her to heaven now that she bought her way to the Catholic church's "blessings"?

and what makes anyone so sure that giving what is suspected to be stolen to self righteous men give you a ticket to heaven?
, Nobody can do that not unless you are truly repentant and have a personal saviour since everybody sins and I am not to condemn
, these people already had there rewards here on Earth

I was actually sarcastic with my last question.
I dont think Gloria Arroyo will go to heaven the moment her life ended. Will all the sins he committed against the Filipino people, not even a thousand Pajero will buy her a ticket to heaven.
A genuine remorse for what she did, and an atonement will be a start for her. But she used her loot to buy bishops instead, as if Jesus can be bribed.

let us not generalize the church. there maybe some of them who are corrupt but not all. I think this has been going on since in time memorial. the late corazon aquino was very close to the church, I'm sure there were projects or benefits favored to them and who knows other past administrations maybe did extend their hands to the church as well. I guess we will never change, we pinoys in general are corrupt in nature.

This is a bit embarrassing as a catholic knowing a bishop is asking for an expensive vehicle. I think that the bishop was a bit callous asking for an expensive vehicle just so that he has an old car with him that he has a hard time traveling from here to there. I think I could accept if the bishop would ask for any kind of transportation in any case he needed it badly. But he did mention the model of the car and it was pretty expensive.
I am not discrediting the whole church for this handful bishops that has fallen for the calling of the flesh but I think they do not deserve to be a good model for the church and its flock. It shows how weak the spiritual upbringing of this bishop and has gone materialistic. I hope the church would not be protecting these kinds of priest in their ranks so that the whole church would not be dragged further down.

i do think there is truth to some allegations that there are organized crimes led by some priests. if there is smoke, there is fire.
it is true that we could not generalize. it is like we could not say that all who put their trust in Gloria Arroyo are evil. there are always reasons and exemptions. but to learn of crimes being executed by the supposedly 'holy people' is hateful. we can be angry with these evil lurking around but we should not sin.
we could not blame some people condemning Arroyo and these priests. the act must be condemned and as people, we have to do something about it. why on earth was she put to a sensitive post still? it's because of favors and bribes, and all things evil.
sadly there are people who think they can bribe their way to heaven and that includes people in positions and power. it sounds like ridiculous but it is happening. these people do not fool others but themselves.

Whether she bribe those priests by giving them luxurious vehicle or not, the main thing is that NO ONE can bribe God. We are not going to enter heaven by our own merits and standards. It is God who knows our hearts and the motives. Indeed doing good things does not make you a candidate to go to heaven because it is not by works that we are saved but by our faith, obedience in Christ and true repentance.

Hi greenpeas, your concerns are mine as well. I had been disconcerted by bishops glaringly meddling with politics, and one in particular is Oscar Cruz of Pampanga. Now it is apparent that the former prez GMA had gotten into them.
That is indeed sad. I could offer now explanation but, as the old folks say, it is the work of the devil. The evil one had successfully penetrated all walks of life.
But God allows it. Remember Job? I believe that we are all given free will, a privilege given to man, and it is up to us to discern what is good and what is evil. Have faith, as I forever tell my daughters, my family, my friends, and even strangers who seemingly are lost. Everything will come out all right in the end.
The devil wants the limelight. There are priests I know who walk 20 kilometers of terrain just to celebrate mass to a tiny community. They are not in the news at all.

I don't think it is fair to generalize priests though they have a long history of being meddlers in terms and matters of State. I also think that priests are also human and they have feelings even though they would not deign to communicate that to people. I would agree with your condemnation of the turncoat and liar priest but I think there are still a few good men in the Church...and perhaps the government.
I think the fate of that priest is sealed. Most likely, he'll be released from the Holy orders after this embarrassing episode. However, I don't think this scandal will be up for long.
Regarding Gloria Arroyo, I don't want to think (or waste my time thinking) whether God will accept her or not. That's out of my hands and frankly, I don't care where she goes. I think she already have problems of her own and I have mine.
Somehow, this makes me think back of the 'indulgencia' in the Spanish period of our history. I'm sure you're familiar with the concept but I have to admit, a Pajero is an upgrade.
