Well, a lot of people might concern about the obesity rate in our country, and it is getting worse every year if you notice the statistics on the internet. There are a lot more children facing obesity problem, due to many factors, lack of exercise, and a lot of those snacks and beverage which cause obesity among children, and among adults as well. Some people would suggest to tax heavy on those sugary snack, and beverage, like candy bars and coke. Would you agree on this suggestion, so it would deter the consumers to spend money on them, and they might not consume that much sugary snacks. Would this really help?

I think they should add taxes to products with heavy ammount of sugar. Or maybe keep in market's computers the food which a person buys per day. That's already done, but Government won't do that. Anyway, there should be restrictions on how much food can a family keep at home with a young child, that could create jobs to new inspectors. But that'd be very strange, and nobody'd really respect those rules... I'm up to increase the taxes.

No this is a democracy if people want eat crappy foods thAts their dissison. I do t know about you but I don't want the government controlling what snaks I can buy. It's not the government job. People who suggest this are limiting our rights as citizens.

absolutly not! The government allready taxes us enough and it is not thier choice what I eat. obesity is caused by other factors than sugar and lack of exercise. the government would tax the air we breathe if they could. they tax because they are greedy and use the excuse that something is bad for our health. Alot of people eat sweets and soda and arent overweight.

I do not think that they should tax anything heavy. I feel they should just go back and start making the products the way they used to make them. The problem is the ingredients in all the products today. I remember when I was young that a box of drakes cake did not last that long, meaning the expiration date was very short time. Now you could have a box of cake for months. They are doing something to the food. The same goes for all the meat, they pump them full of steroids. Taxing will do nothing but make the companies and government rich.

frankly I dont think it would help. Its like with smoking, everyone knows how dangerous it is and only few smokers stop and give up on that habit.

No. I don't agree. Foods and beverages are vital elements responsible for the person's amount of energy. If the government's concern is the health of the people, well, I think consumption of those foods is upon the discretion of the person. Every person must be knowledgeable on how to care of their own health and not the government. If the government's issue is the people's health, then their must be some other ways. Perhaps, they could give seminars or symposiums to the residents but never increase the taxes because these will only give additional burden to the consumers. :)

No. It's none of the government's business what we eat or how much of it we eat. They'd do well to try to balance the budget and learn a little more about foreign relations before trying to force people to eat less sugar or whatever. Whatever happened to personal responsibility??

NO! Using taxes in this way is just social engineering.. in other words, government control over our lives. It isn't the job of government to decide what is best for us.

not as much as they want and not enough to make a difference. The problem with child hood obesity is that recess is not in school like it once was. In addition, kids are playing more video games and not going out side to play Video games do help with hand eye coordination and mental skills kids still need to go out and play. With adults we have gotten lazy remote control for everything what happen to getting up to turn the channel r turn the fan on and walking to the car to turn it on. also we have gotten so busy with work what happen to guys Saturdays when guy go play basketball with other guy and boys. there are many factor to the weight gain in america sugary snacks tax will not help stop it but just make money for the government and them not adding that to medicare or other health programs. but this is my take on it and i can see the other side of this argument and I would love to hear it.
