Hey Guys, i have recently purchased a fish tank and cannot think about any fishes to put in it. I have heard that some fish are friendly while some are aggressive. As i am new to this i don't know which of the fishes would be favorable. About the description about my tank it is about 2 feet in length and 1&1/2 feet in breadth. Can anybody please help me out.

I would go to a fish store with many different kinds of fish and look for any fish that you like the look of. I would then write down the names of the species and ask the people in the store about their maintenance AND search up the fish online. Choose ones that will live together in the tank and unsure you have all the information you need on maintaning the tank (might want snails or something to help clean). Print off the upkeep stuff and put it near the tank so you remember what you need to do. Good luck!

Hello Dear Abear! Sorry for gatecrashing! Adding snails to a fish tank is no good idea, as these creatures propagate so fast and within no time they will occupy all the fish tank and they make the water to smell so rotten that it is very hard to bear! This I am telling it from my personal experience! Thanks !

How tall is the tank so that we can figure out how many gallons of water it holds. also test the water from the tap so that we can have a good chance of helping you make good ideas for fish that will not harm one another. Can you tell us what equipment that you have with this tank. Also do you have any fish that you like, we can build on that to give you a list of fish that should get along together.

Its about 1&1/2 feet tall. The equipment that i have got with this tank are an oxygen machine, filter & heater. I want my fish tank to look full, so i want fishes to be of medium size(about half palm size). And u told abouttesting the water how can i do it.

Dear Coolharry! Maintaining an aquarium needs a lot of patience and dedication! I have maintained one for more than 20 years and it is really a fantastic feeling you have when you see the fish breed in your Fish tank! To experience such a pleasure you will have to work hard and dedicate your self towards this hobby! It would have been a better thing if I have known from which country you are hailing! Your Profile is not mentioning any thing about your location! I am from India and we have lot of Tropical aquarium fish to rear! Well now a days with the develpoment and progress in the transportation and the techniques we get almost all sorts of aquarium fish almost in every part of the the World! First thing in setting a new aquarium is to have a suitable water for the fish. Tap water may some times contain chlorine in it, so to counter act this there are medicines/chemicals available with your fish vendor which is known as anti chlorine, a few drops added to your tank's water should take care of this problem.(Please don't fill the tank to the brim, leave at least one to one and a half inch free from the top) Now having filled the tank, spread gravels at the bottom, we get white gravels and colored ones too, depending upon the taste of yours you can have the gravels of your choice. Then have a lid or cover with light fixed in it as fish require light for their growth like any other living things!, Fix the aerator or the Oxygen pump along with required show pieces to create an impressive scene in the Aquarium. If possible try to get some medium sized stones with natural crevices in them, which are naturally found in any river so that the fish take shelter in these crevices and they look very beautiful while doing so! Now add natural plantation to the Aquarium. For this you have many aquatic plants available with your Fish vendor and try to mix two to three varieties at a time and try to create a beautiful scenery! Now with this all setting your aquarium is ready for the fish to enter! Now coming to the selection of the fish, you will have to be careful in selecting the variety of the fish to your tank. Never over populate the tank. The tank which you are having can accommodate about 7 to 8 pairs of the fish. Adding more than that would be a frustrating experience as the fish may die of over crowding! There are three varieties of the fish. First is surface feeder which feed the food material available on the surface. these fish have their lips in the mouth towards the upper side example are sword tail and black molly. Second one is bottom feeders, these fish eat from the bottom and they are a must in any aquarium as these act as scavengers and help in keeping the fish tank clean by eating away all the food which gets at the bottom. These fish have lips at the bottom side of the mouth. The best examples are tiger fish. You can add four tiger fish in your tank's these fish are not very active and they tend to lie down at the bottom maximum time! The third one is middle feeder which have lips in the center of the mouth, example is Gold Fish,Gouramis etc. Now with this basic description, to start with you can have a pair of Sword tails, A pair of Black Mollys, A pair of Gold fish, A pair of Widows, A pair of Angel fish, A pair of Kissing Gouramis or Dog gouramis and two pairs of Tiger fish. Tetras are good fish and you can also add a pair to your stock! If things go well then you can think of adding more fish to your tank! Instead of adding very big fish, it is better to add the young fish which are small and enjoy to see them grow in your tank. The young ones are more cute and brightly colored and have longer life span than the grown up old ones! Have varieties of fish food and don't over feed them a pinch of food in the morning and evening should be sufficient! Addition of excessive fish food may turn the water turbid and the fish may die instantaneously. Don't change the water daily. Keep on topping it up as and when required . Changing of the water can be done once in a month or two depending upon the waste material getting accumulated in the tank. Keeping the tank at such a place where the fish can have natural sunlight for some time would be added advantage for the fish and for you too! Hope I have given you the basic details about the setting up a new tank, please feel free to ask if any more details are required ! Wish you all the best! Thanks !

According to my view most of the people dont have fish tanks, very rare person ahve these. So its better you go and ask in the place where you bought the fish tank. Its good and safety. For these things and all why you make a online view of point and play. Its safety to and ask in the shop itself.

well in my opinion betta fish are the best fish for beginners also known as siamese fighting fish because they are so hardy and "hard to kill" haha they can survive in dirtier water than most fist usually live three to five years and do not need an oxygen pump in their tank but the aquarium you have is way to big for a betta for they cannot be housed together since you are new i suggest getting some gold fish you can mix all different breeds of goldfish together and they even make special water for sale that already has all the conditioner you need so you just dump the water in the tank you dont have to worry about getting the ph right gold fish are also very hardy and if taken care of can live a very long time
