That's something happenning now!! Facebook is lifestyle trend and for some people it's very important than anything. It's happen last week.I'm awake on 2 am and can't fall asleep, so I just got my facebook open. One of my facebook notification said my friend, Andri has a birthday today.I'm so lazy to say happy birthday on facebook because everyday we meet on office, so I think I will say it later. But I have curiosity to see his wall to know if anybody saying happy birthday to him.And like usually, his wall is full with saying birthday statement -sound so excited!!.Some of my office friend said happy birthday too and I just smile then let it go. In morning, I meet Andri and keep silent for first because he's very busy, so let say happy birthday after he's relax. Some of my friend that was said birthday on facebook just keep quiet when met Andri, like nothing happen, nothing special and nothing was said on facebook.I was wondering!!Is it felt something weird or very natural??I keep it on my mind. Then after lunch I said to Andri "happy birthday, friend"!Well, some of my friend just shout out and one of them said "oh ya... i've said happy birthday last night for you on facebook, right??have you read it??

I wish you all the best as you enjoy the social network site called facebook. But you have to be careful as you meet friends on this sites. It is becoming a trend that facebook is accommodating all kind of characters.

Well that's one bad thing to do. People should say happy birthday personally on someone's birthday when they can - especially when they've greeted someone on facebook at the same day. I would be sad or angry if I was told a sentence like that and might block that person on my facebook wall.

I agree with you that saying birthday should be personally. That's right if saying by facebook then all people will know that we were saying birthday but it will be worthless if we seem not care in real world. It's really sad fact around me.I won't block that kind of person because I'm afraid that it will impact to friendship.Do you find another sad thing fact about facebook issue??

Hmm...it's is somehow associated with laziness, and alteration of social communication. Old Times - People greet friends personally Early Technological Advances - People call their friend's phone to greet Few years after - People send an happy birthday SMS/e-mail Now - You'll find a lot of happy birthday statuses on your profile wall. Too bad we're getting lazy as the technology improves. :(

You see it is very simple, when you are seeing a person everyday it would be saner to extend birthday wishes personally. Sending birthday wishes through Facebook channel appears okay, when the person is far away or abroad or too busy to be contacted.

Right, sending birthday greeting through facebook is ideal for someone who is far away and can't meet directly.

I guess that's the problem with Facebook; it has taken away the special meaning and significance of meeting with or talking to each other face-to-face. I am quite convinced that many people actually think Facebook actually REPLACES face-to-face meeting with or talking to each other. The scenario that you just mentioned to us all perfectly portrays that. Those friends of yours who wished your birthday friend Andri thinks that wishing him Happy Birthday on Facebook is sufficient and there is no need to wish him again face-to-face. While Facebook is claimed to help to connect people, I think in some ways it could actually be killing relationships.......

I agree with you. It's not only work for facebook but also all kind of social network and technology up dates! When get the public transportation, people do not talk to someone beside them anymore, but become so much busy with own phone.I agree with the quotes that "the world is a much better when apple and blackberry is just the fruits!!"

Whichever way we say happy birthday, will be very meaningful to the person receiving it.

Well some people find it a big deal when someone says Happy Birthday to them. Others treat it like a secret. Others would really like to hear you say Happy birthday to them and they are also enthusiastic about it. I would still like to greet those who really show happy smiling faces when you greet them happy Birthday. But anyway, it depends on the mood of the person, the character of the person and to what his concept of birthday celebration means. For me, whether they are close friends or not, whether they are close to me geographically or not, when I see birthday notification on Facebook, i just send them a Happy birthday greetings, no big deal. Just a greeting, if it makes them happy, that's nice, if it makes them frown, its their problem. As long as I remembered greeting them all.

Saying birthday on facebook is a trend now.Everybody have each mood to celebrate and accept birthday greeting, I agree that. But saying personally with smiley face and shake hand is very polite and great than shout out on facebook but pretending in meet. It's totally fraud for me.What do you think??

Hi! I don't like my wall to be flooded with birthday greetings from friends whom who don't know my birthday from their memory. It's sad to know that you only get birthday greetings just because it is on FB's calendar. I don't put my own birthday on FB, that's why though I only have a few greetings, I know they came from my true friends and my family who know my birthday from their hearts. I also have a friend who not only has her birthday on FB's calendar, she also puts a wall photo saying "It's my Birthday!" with all her FB friends tagged. I thought, why would she do that, it's like wanting to get a lot of attention.duh.so pitiful. But still, she is my friend since highschool and so I remember her birthday from memory, I just hope with a lot of those birthday greetings on her wall, most will be as sincere as my wishes for her.

Hahayyy.... your friend is facebook addicted I think. But that's so pity cause she beg a lot of birthday greeting, lol :o Facebook works as your birthday alarm, and true, that sometimes who saying birthday is just for fun and not serious wishes. But lucky you have some friend who saying birthday without birthday alarm, that's a good friend :D

Hi redvakaurvaki, Some do wish the birthday out of excitement for fun. Others do wish on seeing others wished, it goes like a rule like. But I believe its totally upto oneself. You can even wish her at office happily, rather than following FB rules set.

hi, besthope, I agree with you dear.sometime give wish for excitement of fun, some for formality and some other doing it sincerely. how about you?do you like saying birthday by facebook or doing it right after meet each other?

People should Personally say happy birthday if you can meet. Though facebook acts like a birthday directory in that case. If you can't meet, then you should say it in facebook. I, personally, like to wish happy birthday in facebook through the messages cuz you may get a reply...and then its brighter if you know that that person has seen your message.

Saying via inbox is more private and touching than shout out on wall.I agree that way, but saying face to face is still needed in case you meet each other, right?

Yesterday (July 3rd) was my friend's birthday. I couldn't meet him personally so I tried to call him up. He didn't lift the phone. So I posted on his Facebook wall. After some time, I came online and saw, he "Liked" my wall post. I tried to call him immediately after saying that and still he didn't lift. So strange. Let's see..................
