Okay, so I was wondering, in preparation for the movie next week, how many of you have read the books? I was thinking of re-reading books 1-7 between now and then, but I'm worried then I'll be more likly to criticise the things the movie changed from the book. But on the other hand, it gives me something fun to do between now and then! What do you guys think? Would/have any of you re-read any of the books in preparation for the films? Or does this seem like a crazy idea? I'm really excited for the movie anyways, apparently Alan Rickman gives the performance of his life, which I can totally understand and which I'm looking forward to. I'm not looking forward to the epilogue though...stupidly named children!

I have re-read the books a few times over the years, but I do not think that I have the time to re-read the entire series between now and when the movies comes out. I am glad that the movie is finally going to be out so I can watch it. I really enjoyed the first part of the deathly hallows. I too really enjoy Alan Rickman. His performances have been great. I really cannot picture another person playing snape.

I have the summer off, but I am a teacher and have a child. I have 60 or so hours of training to do online over the summer, along with several hours a day at the park. I also enjoy being on here and other sites. I have a few books on my list that i want to read before summer is over...ones that i have not read before.

No, I can't either, he's been so convincing! We just have to hope he can pull off this next bit, but according to Daniel Radcliffe its the best Alan Rickman performance ever. I enjoyed it too, though it was sad :( That's true, I only have time to re-read them all since I am a poor job-less student who's finished for the summer and so has lots of time on her hands! If I was working/generally had a life, I would have had to start before now.

I'm just a student enjoying my break before I start revising for next term, so I have at least a few more weeks where I can relax. I'm trying to be good and not buy new books since I'm jobless and supposed to be saving money :( I've only really recently started using mylot much, but I like it here too :)

I had earlier watched all the previous movies but this week I am going to read the books. I had till now read the first three books and there is a great deal of information in the books and most of the mysteries are cleared. Surely this is going to be one of the greatest hit. Eagerly waiting for the 15th july.. Have a nice day!

very well said, I hope that the DVD's will come with some extra entertainment and information. Plus the jk rowling wiki pages are a good place for detailed information behind the harry potter series.

They should do, I think they normally have special features on them. the Harry Potter lexicon is a good site for details: http://www.hp-lexicon.org/index-2.html JKR herself has admitted to checking sites like this for random facts when out and about writing.

I hope so, I've booked my tickets already and am hoping it's going to be worth the long wait! Ah, yes I prefer the books to the films a lot - there's so much detail they just don't have time to show you in the films.

I have learned a long time ago to not read any book just before seeing the movie "based on it." Or at least, I like to pretend that I have learned this lesson. I can't imagine the difference being larger than gap between Starship Troopers the book and the oh-so terrible movie (the only thing they managed to get right was the bugs). I find all the names in this series to be...well, stupid. It is what happens when a writer wants some mystic, non-"muggle" names and has no real life witches and magicians to talk to. Yes, let's just randomly grab names from occult literature, shall we?

I hang around with potters and ceramic makers; you should hear the jokes about "Hairy" Potter. They are right up there with "pothead" jokes. I am not saying that they are good jokes, merely that jokes are being made. *wink*

I know whether I re-read the books or not I'll still sit and criticise, so i figure I may as well get a week's worth of enjoyment out of reading the books first! Not all the names are ridiculous, to be fair. I mean "Harry Potter" is sensible enough, and I know a few Ronald's. Fred, George, Charlie, Bill etc are sensible enough (though I admit the Malfoy's got a bad lot with names) and Lily and James are reasonable enough too.

Hi drasnian, I've read the whole 7 books twice, one in spanish, one in english, and I just can't wait to see the last movie (although the books are SO much better than the films). I never read the books in preparation for the films and still criticized the things they changed . About the epilogue, what can I say... I'd like to rip off those pages,

Ok, it's wednesday already, have you made all the progress you expected? I loved half blood prince! The chamber of secrets was a little bit boring...

Same :) With or without re-reading I still criticise, so i figured I might as well just re-read them and enjoy it :) Anyways, I decided to go for it, and re-read them all, I'll finish book 4 today, and hopefully make some good progress on book 5. I haven't had much progress this weekend as my boyfriend's been here and we've been babysitting my little sister/taking care of the dogs. Tomorrow afternoon though, he'll be back home, and my parents will be around to deal with the dogs/sister, so I'm thinking I'll get lots done. Plus, I'll be starting HBP soon (assuming all goes to plan) which is my favourite so I should read that one quickly.

Alright, I read your comment about the names and also your comment on the first response about the other names. I know who most of the children are that you mentioned, but who are Lorcan and Lysander? Did I miss something? Did you see the movie yet? I saw it, and I loved the performance by Alan Rickman, but I never doubted that I would. Snape did get more emphasis in this movie than in the last two, but I still do not think that they did him the justice that he deserved. Then again, he is one of my favorite characters, so I might be a little bit biased. I have read all the books, and I plan on reading them again when I get some time. I was thinking about reading them again before the movies to "brush up", but I decided against it. They did not do a good job of sticking to the books except in the first few movies, and it was very frustrating, so I wanted to enjoy the movies without trying to compare them to the books. Of course, that didn't work, but it was a good try at least.

Yes, I saw the movie on the release date, and am proud to say I managed to re-read all seven books in time. I thought Alan Rickman was fabulous, though like you say, that isn't exactly a shock! I appreciated the fact Snape got more emphasis in this movie, but I know of a few people who were still very confused about things like his changing sides, and Harry being a horcrux. I think maybe the movie wasn't that clear to people who haven't read them. But then I supposed there are always details the movies miss, that you just won't pick up on without reading them. Haha, yes I can never resist comparing, even if it's been a while since I read them, but that's because I am a proud Harry Potter nerd! Lorcan & Lysander are twin boys, they're the sons of Luna Lovegood and Rolf Scamander (the grandson of Newt Scamander, author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them).

hmmm.. i would not read it again until i watch the movie.. because it might disappoint me. hence, i still feel that this last movie would be the best since it is the last.. they must put what is really written.. i hope in the latter, they would have the fuse the two parts of deathly hallows.. i will buy the complete collection of it when it is available in the market..

you are right.. it is the most accurate film since there are very few cuts from the novel.. you can really feel that this is what JK Rowling had written... this will be a big break for Harry Potter and for Alan..

I think because they've split the book into two films, this could possible (hopefully) be the most accurate film yet. I think the last film is likely to be very good, the actors all seem very happy and I can't wait to see Alan Rickman's performance which I think would be enough to make or break the film on it's own.

I probably wouldn't reread the books until after I watched the movie. I have read them all once. And have seen the movies I Can't wait till the next movie hits the drive-in. I wish honestly they would show the last 2 together , that would be awesome. I do like Alan Rickman he is a hell of an actor. But their children are named for people Harry loved the most.

I know, but they do have ridiculous names lets be honest! I mean "Albus Severus" - who would do that to a kid? That's before mentioning "Teddy" "Victoire" "Lorcan & Lysander" or "Scorpius"! The cinema near us is doing the previous films one a day in the run up to the last film, maybe somewhere near you is doing something cinema? Then you could see part 1 the day before part 2? I'm not sure you'd honestly want to sit through both in the same day! I've read them all a lot of times, and I'm thinking I have time to kill this week anyway...

I read almost all of the books. I did not read the last two and I did not see the last movie. Actually I saw parts of it but I did not see the entire thing. So I need to watch the last one before I go and see the newest one. My son saw the last one and he is going opening night to the theater to the midnight show and he is extremely excited about it.

You suffered through book 5 (my least favourite) but then didn't finish?! In my opinion, book 6 is the best, and definitely worth a read. The last film was good but it dragged on a little towards the end. We're going on opening night too but my sister's 9 so no midnight showing for us :(

Well i had read all the books pretty earlier than deathly hallows was released...book version was awesome...but its been long time since I read them so right now I don't remember the details..and also haven't seen the first part of deathly hallows..so I'm definitely going to reread the books..But i will read only seventh book..that will make the movie a little better i guess.

I suppose it would make much more sense for me to just do that too. But the problem is, if I start book 7 now, I'll finish it in a few days, and I'm on a bit of a Harry Potter high at the minute! The first part was good, but it dragged on a bit to be honest. I'd definitely recommend seeing it though, especially before you see part 2!

I found a very good link which provide me the superb quality to watch Harry potter and the deathly hallows 2 movie online http://watchharrypotterandthedeathlyhallows2online.wordpress.com

I read all the books. And I don't think is a crazy idea to re-read the books, they are so fun that you probably would read them really fast. I would do that if I had the time, but I have to study for the college tests this week and next week. Then will be my vacation, maybe I'll read the books then, specially the 4, 5 and 7, those are my favorite ones.

Yeah, I think you're right. I started reading Harry potter and the philosopher's stone at about 9pm last night and finished before bed, I doon't know whether I'll have as much progress with book 2 today though since we're going to the cinema this afternooon. Book 6 is my favourite personally. Good luck with your tests!

i dont like to re-read any books in preparation for the films because the film will disappoint me at last. U know the words are so amazing, u can image many different scenes in ur head through them but u cant image through the film which are freezed by the director.hehe...

That's true, I do have a tendency to sit there like "That's wrong" "They missed out..." "That didn't happen in the book"....but I think I'd do that anyways, since I've read them all a lot of times before and am a complete harry potter nerd lol.
