My Body Is Confusing Me... Does Anyone Have an Answer?

I am way to old for my body to be throwing me for a loop... but I'm confused and my boyfriend's mother is acting like I'm sort of freak for this because she has never known anyone else like this... it's all in my teeth. Lol For starters I didn't get my first tooth until I was 2 years old. My oldest daughter was the same way and the doctor told me that because her teeth came in late she would have sturdy teeth. It makes sense I've never had a cavity in my life and I have not had the best of oral hygiene practices from time to time. My boyfriend has nasty teeth and I have not picked up any rot from his mouth (he brushes his teeth twice a day... I brush once.) Anyhow... so from the age of two on things pretty much teetered out to normal for me. I have super straight teeth that even dentists have mistakingly thought were the result of braces. I do like my teeth, they are that one redeeming feature of mine. Lol So now where the freak part comes in. I will be 28-years-old in August and I am just now getting my wisdom teeth in. I'm such a baby about it too. They are growing correctly so I probably won't even have to get them pulled and it doesn't look like they will mess up my alignment. I should consider myself lucky, but my boyfriend's mother seems to think that I should have gotten them in a long time ago and they should have been pulled out professionally by the dentist. She says that there is no way that they could possibly grow in correctly and not cause me any more problems than just the painful process of breaking the gum line. And the sad thing is I have nothing to refute what she says with because I don't know of anyone else that got their wisdom teeth in so late. My brother that is 13 months younger than me got his in a few years ago... but in the grand scheme of things he still got his in at an acceptable time and he is st actually still younger than I. The first one actually tried to come in two years ago, but just as it started I got strep throat and the infection settled into the open gum line when it healed the tooth stopped trying to come in and is now trying to come in with the other one on the other side. The idea came to me that maybe the outward appearance of aging is connected to getting the wisdom teeth in. As for the past 10 years I could have easily passed as a 14 year old and now that my wisdom teeth are coming in my face is really starting to age noticeably. None of my siblings that got their teeth in earlier have had an issue with looking younger than their age... of course they all do drugs so that could have something to do with it. I'm in need of some validation here that I'm not alone in getting the teeth in late and if someone has any clue why I'm getting them so late I would really appreciate having that explanation in hand when my boyfriend's mom starts her stuff again.

I would ask your parents about their wisdom teeth. As you have mentioned, your daughter seems to be following your pattern. The only time wisdom teeth have to be surgically removed or pulled in any other way if they do not get cavities or mess up the other teeth. I thin I still have one that never broke through, but I am not sure. I cannot remember. I remember having three pulled, but then my jaw line is too small for them. Now in my family some of us never get certain adult molars, and my son did not either. Not sure about my daughter, but that particular thing can be traced at least three generations in my family. You are not a freak, your body knows what is right.

I know about my parents and their wisdom teeth. I was about 5 when my Dad had to get his pulled. So he would have been about 23 at the time. My Mom doesn't know when hers came in because she went to the dentist for a check up when she was 40 and it was the first time she had gone since being a teenager and her wisdom teeth were in. They didn't mess up her mouth in any way and she doesn't even recall them coming in. So, no one knows when hers came in. I'm currently just rubbing oraljel on my gum line to keep the pain down. Other than that it's just a wait and see game now.

Hi Dismalgrin, I don't have my wisdom tooth yet and I am 24. I don't know when it will come. My colleague here is 28 just got her wisdom teeth this year. So maybe it's something to be so worried about. In the better scheme of things, it's normal. (I guess). But if you really want to be assured, ask the expert about this (your dentist).

Thank you! I can't really afford a dentist right now and I don't know that one would answer a question like that over the phone. But it is reassuring that I'm not the only one at least. Like I said, I don't know of anyone that I'm associated with that got their wisdom teeth in so late.

My brother got 3 sets of teeth in some places and he may be weird at time he is no freak. We all have our own time lines for things happening to us. Keep your teeth until they become a problem. There were put there for a reason.

I'm not really one to think of people as freaks... unless it's something that they do to themselves. You know the type I'm talking about. They ones that go out of their way to be weird. Not fringe of reason people. I'm a little bit of a rebel myself. I'm talking about those guys that wear skimpy girlie outfits on a cold winter's day? I mean if you want to wear a girl outfit be my guest, but please be reasonable about it. Lol. And it really hurts that my boyfriend's mom says mean things like this to me when she doesn't have any of her own teeth... I don't say mean things to her about that. Once she told me that my teeth were all rotten and nasty. I cried for a whole day and refused to open my mouth either. My boyfriend told her that was a mean thing to say since it wasn't true. But, even with him standing up for me it hurt my feelings.

It seems that your boyfriends Mom just wants to stir up trouble, sorry to say, because everyone is different. Some people get their teeth in really early, some get them later on, I know of at least 2 people that never seem to have had wisdom teeth to their knowledge. The thing is with ageing, the same applies, some age slowly some age quickly, at times it seems that we age faster and then it slows down again. In relation to your teeth, as long as there is no medical reason to have them removed it is not obligatory to have them removed, most people have them removed due to misalignment or infections, you are fortunate that yours are growing well. Try not to worry.

She seems to be attempting to do that a lot lately. And as much as I know that I still fall for her mean attacks. I guess I should take this as proof that everything she says must be taken with a grain of salt and that I should let her remarks get to me so much.

I was born without one of my wisdom teeth so I only had to go through having 3 come through. One of them I believe it was on the bottom made the whole side of my face swell up really bad for about 3 days. It was so painful. I was so thankful not to have the fourth one come through and find out with xrays at the dentists office that I was born without it. I got my wisdom teeth when I was about 18 or so. The top one on the right side came in pointing toward my cheek. It doesnt bother me though and as long as it doesnt ever get a cavity I wont worry about having them pulled. My husband had to have one of his pulled because the skin was growing over it. They had to slice his gum open and then pull his tooth and sew it up after.

What I forgot to say was that I think its perfectly normal for your wisdom teeth to come in late. You were late getting your baby teeth in so its probably only natural that your wisdom teeth would come in a few years later as well. My aunts widsom teeth didnt come in until she was 40 but they gave her such problems when they finally came in because they were sideways that she had to have them pulled as they were getting impacted.I think its awesome that your teeth are so nice. I'm 27. I've never had a cavity. I did have to have braces... my teeth were straight but I had a deep bite which was causing my teeth to become very lose and were going to fall out.

The one thing I hate about my teeth is that they ache a lot because I tend to bite down when stressed and I'm stressed all the time, so I deal with ache all the time.

Ahh I understand that completely. My jaw and teeth do not hurt me but I have bruxism which is grinding of the teeth while sleeping. Whenever I do things like open a can or clean the tub or anything that I have to concentrate I clench my teeth. I have chipped a lot of teeth over the years. I had to have braces to correct a deep bit because it was causing my teeth to get very loose and they were going to fall out.
