One Good Thing About This Heat

It was 104 degrees a minute ago here where I live. I got my electricity bill today and it is up from last month. Because it's so blasted hot. But wait! There is one good thing about this heat. I have no appetite. Certainly the heat makes exercise even less appealing, but with no appetite I will not be gaining any weight. I've wanted to get in the apartment pool so badly, but there are always a lot of people in it. Plus, I know those little kids are peeing in that pool. Anyone else find anything good about this heat? And are you lucky enough to be in reasonably warm weather, and NOT scorching heat? August is usually the hottest month here where I live. So we've got a ways before it cools down.

It has been int he 90's here but the humidity is unreal. You cannot even go outside and sit without sweating like crazy. We have a swimming pool but haven't had the time to use it. We will though. I hate to see my electric bill next time too. It is just too hot.

Oh I know. Another reason why I don't like summer here is because of the humidity. It's wretched.

@ stephcjh You must live in the Southeast. I live in Tennessee and it is terrible down here. Very humid and very hot. I am scared about our electric bill as well, it definitely won't be a cheap one!!!

The good thing about this blasted heat (literally) is that the library is blissfully cool. We've been going every day. I wouldn't let the kids in the pool bother you. Just take a quick rinse-off when you get out. It's still cleaner than most ponds and lakes.

It's more about how crowded it is. I'm still somewhat shy and feel weird around a bunch of people I don't know.

If I see some one running through lawn sprinklers, any chance it'll be you?

That's true, the hotter it is, the less appetite ones has, or if one is like me, a good meal of fruit is great. I had a mango for lunch today and it filled me up and now it is almost 8PM and I am still going strong..We only have A/C in one bedroom, so the rest of the house is hot and I also don't want to move around much..But, we have a good size kiddie pool, one I am not ashamed to get into and that helps keep me cool and I can get exercise, especially when my son is wit me and he wants to play chase or something..lol

Yeah, another great thing is that I crave fruit in this heat.

Thanks for the BR, we are going into some record breaking temps, so I guess that's more weight to loss...

It has been so deg gone hot here too but mainly due to the humidity which has been really high that I've become dehydrated a few times because I sweat so bad. I had to keep reminding myself to keep drinking water so I won't get that way but I get so busy doing things for my parents because mom is really sick that I forget to drink the water that I need. If I get home in a decent time, after 6:30 when the sun is behind the trees but before 8 then I'll go for a swim in my pool to cool off but lately it hasn't worked out that way but that's ok. As long as my mom is cared for, I'm ok with not getting into my pool that day because there's always tomorrow.

Well, I wish I could but for a couple of reasons I haven't been able to enjoy my pool. The weather has been horrible for the past week plus my mom is really sick so I'm having to run up to her and help her so I don't get home till late but gosh, I really miss my pool! And if you were closer, I'd invite you over to enjoy my pool with me once the storms let up!

So CAl...around 100* all week and of course, this is our moving week...well not moving, but fixing up the house we just bought with things like shelf paper, replace faucets and things like that before we move in. I hate it and thing is...usually our heat waves...black outs even....don't start till August and last through September. So now is unusual. But I keep the thermostate at 78* and the celining fans going and our bill is at least acceptable for a 2 bedroom apt. We are moving to the desert and a larger home so it will be more...so I am not complaining! But I can't stand the heat. I have a health problem that if it gets so hot like that...my head (feels like it) swells up and I pass out...so me no like heat!!!

Good attitude. I very rarely complain about the heat....because I prefer it soooooooooo much more than cold. The last summer I spent in TX I think we had about 21 days in a row over 100 and I didn't have a/c in my car. When I had to take my son to work or pick him up, I used to take 2 bottles of water with me - one to drink and one to dump on my head if he took too long coming after work. :) Let's see. What's good about the heat? Well....the basement is the only cool place in our house. The a/c is trying, but can't get the rest of the house under 80. So, that means that my son, hubby and I are spending more time in the basement and we're really making headway in getting it cleaned up. There is a bright side to everything.

I'm odd in the way that I prefer winter. It's just that I feel I can take the cold. I'll pile on clothes, and I'll save money on the electricity. But since I was little the heat made me sick (extreme heat, not just being hot), I always have to have the air conditioner at a fairly cool temp. Which is bad for the wallet.

doesn't seem to affect my appetite adversely, and it has been HOT, but I got to go over to a friend's house who has a pool on Monday and got a nice swim in!

I love this heat when we can go out and get into our pool. It feels so refreshing and my husband and I are actually getting exercise. We take our grandchildren, whoever is here for the night, and we go out and spend 1-1/2 hours in there. Playing with them and walking around the pool.. It has to be great exercise. I take all the kids out unless I have too many to trust taking all in by myself and we usually spend about 1-1/2 hours in there and I do the same thing and get my exercise. Exercise has to be good because of the resistance of the water. We try to make a whirlpool around the pool by going the same direction around and around and then stop and try to reverse. It is so hard but so many giggles get started!

That's great! My doctor told me the best exercise for me would be in the pool because it goes easiest on my back.

It was around 90 here today, but the rain cooled it down some. Right now it is around 78 degrees outside. I know when I am hot and sweaty I don't want to eat. I drink more than I eat.

Let's see, warm weather means stinky, sticky, sweatiness.. overcrowded pools, a surge in electricity bill from running the a/c, bugs.. and general misery from being so hot. Nope, can't think of anything good about it, LOL. Our heat gets into the 90's with extreme humidity too. Ick! But we do get plenty of use out of our pool membership, even if it is overcrowded and peed in.

More than the heat, it's the humidity here that makes it so bad. What's weird is the difference of the "feeling" of humidity. Sometimes I can walk outside, and automatically you know it's a tornado warning day.

the good thing about the heat when it's summer here is that there is threat of flash floods and landslides and flooded streets. with an umbrella,a bottle of water, and thin clothing, heat is easy to deal with but with the rains and storms, i believe there is more damage that have to be dealt with.

Well, besides not having a big appetite people tend to sweat ,so they don't gain so much weight. Is wonderful to live in a place where there is a beach because in the winter you are very limited to the outdoors.

hi ambie pam I am sitting here with the air conditioner blowing on me as its really hot outside and its almost five p.m. sun is still really blazing here in sSouthern California Garden Grove and of all things on a hot afternoon our dinner was a baked potato and roast beef with mixed veggies thats not very cooling I had two glasses of iced tea I am now waiting for my son who emailed me this monring he was going to coime over around three, its more like five now.i would rather have had a fruit salad plate with cottage cheese.oh I wish we had a pool here as thats a crying shame so many here need exercise and a pool is easy on our arthritic knees and hips too. a pool sounds wonderful but not the youngsters peeing in it lol yuck aug will be even hotter and Sept how I feel for the kids going back to school on the hots days we get there.

That would be great if more senior facilities had pools. I imagine they are afraid people would slip, but if employees were around to make sure they could help them get in and out, then the positive should outweight the negative.

This heat is good for people like me who have come to usa from india. When we came in April till May end or so we were having very cold weather. I am enjoying the weather --I can go out with jeans pant and tee-shirt only with a chappal. during winter we had to put on jerkins shoes etc. good day.

hi Ambie its not scorching hot here, sorry for the late answer but as my best friend had passed away a little over a week ago I was not online as much as usually, first had to come to terms with that loss someehow. Hope it stays as it is now, not scorching hot but just pleasantly warm.
