So many lives lost from cigarettes although it was the person's choice and everyone is well aware of the risks involved in smoking, the big question is do you think cigarette smoking should be banned for good, or illegal even?

Hi nisd! That is why my friend, many people advising that we never try something that can make us addicted to it which will bring the bad effects to other people. Don't mention about the smokers themselves..They are really good in look after their ownself. Better get addicted to Mylot and other good things. At let you are earn from it. By smoking you just burn the money. I think they are fine with it and they are rich enough to burn their money.

I think the way it is now is fine. In Europe it is banned in public areas, you have to go outside to smoke. Smokers say, 'well, I have a right to smoke!', but I say 'well, i have a right to life, a human and constitutional right, and part of me maintaining that right is not getting cancer or other diseases from your passive smoke!' . the one right far outweighs the other!

As an ex-smoker I have to say I agree with you. I had the righ to kill myself if I wanted to but it was very selfish of me to expose my family and other people with the smoke I left in the air. One of my former neighbors had been warned if their little boy came to the doctor again with an asthma attack and him smelling of smoke that they would call CPS on them for child abuse. The dad started smoking outside after that for awhile. Then he got braver where he stood in the doorway or by an open window. The wife finally just up and left him with her child to protect the child.

I really loves talking about rights because it seems that no one is wrong. That is really true!!They claim their right we do have that too~ About PQ story, the wife just did the right thing. My sister's ex husband is a smoker and now all her three children got asthma and breathing problem especially the youngest. What a relieved he is not around anymore~

No, government should never violate our rights and tell us what we can do with our property. However, I am supportive of efforts to reduce smoking through voluntary means, including having property owners ban smoking on their properties.

I am a smoker and no I do not believe it should be banned. It should be my choice if I want to smoke. Now I believe you should not smoke in public places or around people who do not smoke if they do not want you to. They way I look at it you are going to die from something. There are people every day that die from cancer and heart attacks who never smoked. My neighbor just die of cancer and never smoked. He wife does smoke (not around him) She if 78 years old an is fine. Have a Blessed Day

In my opinion I think that making things illegal only make things worse... and it's not as simple as making cicarretes illegal because they are bad, from there we could make a ton of other things illegal because they are as bad or worse then smoking. I think people should be informed, if they still choose to smoke, then allow them, but do it alone or with other people that share the same addiction. Non-smokers shouldn't have to smoke too. If you want to kill yourself, it's your life, it's your own free will, all we can do is warn and inform, but do not harm others for your addictions, because then you are infringing on the free will of others.

It should be banned.Smoking is very dangerous to our health and it is more dangerous than drinking.I dont like both drinking and smoking, but i tried it once in my life when i was studying in college.I find nothing special in that ,so i decided not to take it in my whole life. Both smoking and drinking is injurious to health and it is better to keep away from this bad habit. With out banning such products,it is very difficult to keep people away from this bad habit. There is limitation in a waring the people about the hazards that caused by this had habit.Self determination is the best method to keep away from this.

Although it is impossible to banned smoking but I want that it must be banned. At least smoking at public places should be banned because non smoker suffer due to passive smoking.

Hi mykaylala! I don't think there is a need to ban smoking, altogether. In the Philippines, there are smoking and non-smoking areas. And this goes to a lot of countries, as well. I believe smokers know what they're up to and what they're up against when they smoke. Everyone should be responsible for their own actions. If they want to smoke, go ahead and do it on the right place so as not to cause others health issues.

I'm not a smoker and agree it is bad but I don't think it should be illegal. People should have the rights to decide for themselves whether to smoke or not. The government is trying to control enough already. While at it maybe junk food or anything with sugar or salt should be banned because they aren't good for us either.

I hope smoking will be banned soon because it really won't do good to our body. It is just leading us to a life threatening situation and let people suffer especially for us non smokers.Smoking is usually used for people who want to relieved their stress which it should not be done because it really won't help them.If they are stressed they have to relax and sleep so that they can recover with their situation.

I definitely think that smoking should be banned, but I don't think that will be possible. So, they should make smoke at least illegal, because the problem is not only the smokers who suffers. The persons who don't smoke, but have to be next to a smoker person, also can develop so many diseases. They should make at least banned smoke from public places, I know that some country have this law, too bad that my don't have.

I can't really answer this question as a part of me says that it should be restricted and the other part(the evil smoker one) says it's each to her own. But I can say this that there are people who don't smoke yet who become victims of passive smoking and die which is not even due to their own fault. This has to be stopped anyhow. Public smoking has to be banned and those rules should be enforced tightly. A smoker may argue that he chooses his poison, but he can never claim another person's life for his own addiction.

Illegal? NOpe. BAnned in public places? Yes. Actually there is no study directly pinpointing smoking as the main cause of those diseases. They can be one of the causes and they can lead to such, but I think there is really no specific results were seen that the disease came mainly from smoking alone. That's why government can only warn the people but cannot curtail them from smoking. They can regulate the use through age limit but they could never totally prohibit anybody from exercising their freedom to do whatever they want with their lives as long as they don't harm others. That's why in our country right now, it is prohibited to smoke in public places because you are harming others. Harm yourself, no problem with that, but to harm others is totally a no, no.

I wouldn't go so far as to make it illegal, but yes I do think it should be banned from all places save for the persons house, car, or outside. I hate eating at a restaurant that has a bar in it because here in IN if the restaurant has a bar then smokers are allowed to smoke inside the bar. The bar itself is not completely closed off from the rest of to restaurant so yes the smoke drifts out to us diners. I refuse to eat at a restaurant called "Old Chicago" because of this very reason even though they have awesome food. I just can't eat & inhale second hand smoke at the same time.
