After my nephew had a tumble and scraped up his arm, he was still complaining about the pain. He will be 11 in November. And as long as I can remember he hasn't been able to swallow pills. So when I had his mom on the phone I asked if i could give him some of the liquid Ibuprofen I had. She them let me know, "Nah..new trick, stick the pill in a bit of peanut butter on the end of a spoon. I did, and down it went. And no complaining. I thought that was pretty cool. How do your kids take medicine? Would you try the peanut butter trick?

That's a cool trick you got there. When I was a kid I used to drink soda when drinking pills because I was afraid that water might get it stuck to my throat.

I'll have to keep the soda thing in mind. The carbonation may make it easier too!

I suggest you don't because I later found out that water works just the same as soda.
Well, if your daughter loves soda then go ahead.

Funny how little "tricks of the trade" get kids to learn to do things! I used to do things like that all the time to get them to eat good. Tiny little sandwiches or tell them it is one thing when it is another...for instance...trying to get my GD to eat chicken..she didn't like it unless it was McD's. So I always made homemade chicken nuggets but she wouldn't eat them...so she loved playing dolphin so I said I was making "squid" to feed the dolphins in the living room...her face lite up brighter than any christmas tree and I told her to go get all her dolphins and I will feed them squid (she knew she was "the dolphins") So she did, I told the "dolphin' to jump to get the squid and she did, grabbed the "squid" and eat it and came back for more! After a few times, she figured it out that it was just chicken nuggest made by nanny instead of McD's and she loved them. THEN......she begged me to teach her how to make them and I had her TOUCHING raw meat and dragging it in the flour, egg and bread crumbs! She loved it! And to this day, when she comes over, squid is the first thing she asks for! We mom's gotta play a tough game for our babies!

That is neat. I have never tried the peanut butter trick before. I may have to try that with my dog sometime too. He usually takes his meds but there are times when he doesn't want to and we have tried other methods and he won't take it. I bet peanut butter would work good though.

My oldest is almost 9. So far they all take liquid or chewable medicine. I don't know if they make pills you need to swallow for young children. I wasn't sure when to have them try to swallow pills. I can't remember when I started swallow pills instead of taking liquid meds. I never liked the taste of the liquid stuff so I think I learned as soon as I could lol.

My cousin is in her late 30's now & till this day she still can't swallow any kind of pills, big or small doesn't matter. She has a very bad fear of choking so pills are very hard for her to take. So instead she does the following: She takes her pills by squishing them between two spoons & then adds either water or juice to it so she can swallow it right down. She has always taken her pills this way for as long as I can remember.
