i work in a BPO or callcenter company, so my work schedule is on a graveyard shift (12midnight to 9am)... sometimes, because of stress 9work-related, personal, or even because of the travel time), i find it hard to sleep... it frustrates me a lot when i take 1-2 hours tossing in bed before i finally get to sleep.. before, reading some paperback books helps. playing mellow music helps. but as time goes by, these are not helping at all. i have yet to visit a physician but can you tell me if sleeping tablets are safe? what do you recommend (i hope i can but it OTC). im really afraid to be dependent on drugs/medicines but my work is greatly affected when i lack sleep...

I also agree that it may not be safe. Try on natural remedies. Warm ilk with banana can be very relaxing. is also relaxing.Chamomile tea Avoid caffeinated drinks as well. A regular exercise is also beneficial.

Of course it is not safe at all, taking sleeping tablets. Because it will have side-effects to our body in the long-run. The best way is, try to de-stress yourself half an hour before you plan to go to sleep. You can listen to some light music or even watch some funny movies. You can feel sleepy automatically by doing that way. Hope my advise can helps you and others.

i've noted my activities prior to going to bed, and mostly, these includes hours in front of the laptop, doing online stuff. sometimes, i'm also watching too much television shows. i believe i'm too stressed prior to sleeping, for some it works because the body is just too tired you can sleep soon, but for me it adds up to more frustration. ill try distressing a little bit from now. i appreciate your advise. nice one1 ^^

Seems like, you are over-stress yourself, that's why you have sleeping problem. Hope you will successfully de-stress yourself, so can have a good and peaceful sleep soon. Good luck to you....

I'd not advise taking medication to sleep. It must be hard to toss and turn for 1 to 2 hours, and sleeping during the day is never easy. It seems you are stressing out about getting your sleep, and this is causing you to have trouble sleeping. It's hard to know what to advise, but somehow you must learn to relax. Why not stay up in the morning until you are really exhausted, then you might be able to go to sleep as soon as your head hits the pillow. Because right now, it seems, you are going to bed to sleep because you know you have to, rather than because you are tired. I don't envy you: it seems you're in a tough position: as I say, day time sleeping is no cakewalk. If you believe in God, you could pray about it? I wish you luck.

I think, there are no safe sleeping tablets. What did your doctor advised to you? If you can't sleep, try to assess what makes it hard for you to sleep. Is it because of the area? Is it too noisy to you or hot? Well, whenever I can't sleep, I take a glass of hot milk. Perhaps you could try it. I also drink ferrous sulfate. A vitamin to prevent anemia because as they say, lack of sleep may lead to anemia. I hope your sleeping habits will be better soon. :)

that's an interesting info jdex. for a while ive been taking vitamins before going to sleep, but at some point i stopped.. and i recall that after taking this vit, i feel relaxed and i drift to sleeping mode quickly,. maybe i should consult my physician and ask for a vit that is rich in ferrous sulfate.. i appreciate your help :)
