My mom was quite mad when her sister who own an electrical shop gave her only 20 cents discount for a microwave oven value at $488.80. She has been complaining that her sister is so money minded and really mean business regardless who is her customer! How much discount to you expect to get from relatives or friends if you were to buy something from them ??

I think the most they could give would be like 25% - 30%. I have stationery items that I am selling and the guy who supplied them to me gave me a 35% off from the retail price. So I get a 35% commission from what I sell.

I think most goods sold have 10% - 30% profit margin, some could be more. But to give 20cents discount to own sister, is quite a joke!

Yes, it is ashamed that you mom's own sister would do such a thing. I think other shops would give at least a 10% discount as they want you to come back to shop with them again.

I think that your family should at least give you about a 20% discount. It seems pretty stingy of your aunt to only give your mom 20 cents!!! I mean, what does that even help at all? I guess I do understand though that business is business and if you are too generous at giving discounts to your family members, then they might take advantage and start getting all this stuff from you, that you are then losing out on profit for. So I think 20% is a fair discount price!

Yes, my aunt is famous for her stinginess. People said those who are stingy usually are quite well to do, that's quite true for my aunt. She hardly eat out or spend her own sisters any meal or drink. When my mom invite her, she will suggest to eat at her house and that she will cook for them, really 'nice' of her! Of course, we're not expecting great discount nor on cost but definitely not 20cents discount.

Personally I think it would depend on what the item is, and if the relative is the owner or just an employee in that store, and what type of discount or benefit that they might be able to offer to you. Back when my sister worked for Jc Penney most of the time there was nothing she could do unless there were Employee discount days and then she would offer us a chance to get it too.

You should have brought the microwave oven at seasons or festival times and from biggest shops. At the time of festivals, there are great discounts available for especially to electrical and electronic gadgets at it is the best time to buy those things unless you are not in a great immediate need.I generally expect a 20-50 % discounts and this level of discounts are available at festival periods as companies provide discounts to stand in market place and to compete with the competents.Any way you already had brought it with only a little discount, you may better make it the next time.

I should firstly say businesswoman is businesswaman, but for discount different culture has different result, for china a relative shouldn't gain any money from ,the price should be the cost price.

Seriously? 20 cents can't even be considered as a discount! I would get really mad with my sister too if she only give me cents as discount. If it was in my family, I would probably would win the microwave oven for free, but I think that between relatives a 25-50% discount is a good value.

Is the 20 cents or 20%? Do the shop employees get a discount for purchasing from their own store or do they just get the same amount as your mom did from her sister? I remember working in a place where employees got a discount and so did their family members. But I have also worked in places where NO ONE gets a discount and if that is the case in that electrical shop, then there is not much that can be said. Some businesses are just breaking even after paying employees so to give breaks would not help. I don't really know what the shop's circumstances are so I can't respond any further on this. Just my opinion. Have a great week!!!
