Brownout

Last evening, there was brown out for more than 4 hours; we learnt that a tree fell over the power lines. This tree was near a temple; some devotee had donated enough money and had engaged a contractor to construct a concrete platform around it, such that people can sit under this tree.
The contractor had removed soil to a depth of 6 feet, and vanished, the rainwater of past 10days accumulated there, made the binding of root weak, so the wind was enough to topple the tree.
I just fell to understand, why people are so careless,
his negligence was enough to cause this.
As there was no power, water couldn’t be raised to the overhead tank in my home; whatever was there was consumed, and believe me when I went toilet at 5am, there was no water coming-out of the tapes.
Have you ever faced similar situation?
Are the contractors, builders in your place like this?
Please respond, share your views.
Also please comment on this story. Thanks in advance.

Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

I notice people opening taps in the public places and not closing it after use. The water will be flowing waste and how much precious water is? When people need it, it will not be there. People should have some responsibility in what they do.

I ever experienced a few times brownout in my area here. Since most of the time, it happened in the day time, so my family goes out into the nearby shopping malls to have our lunch. After that, we spend time sight seeing in the shopping malls for a few hours. When we get home, the power supply was restored again and we can enjoy the wind from the fan again. There are also a few times, we experienced brownout during the night. Luckily, we had bathed and dinner, so we went to bed early on that day. I think the contractor should be careful to do their job, as not to welcome other unwanted things happening to that area. It is good at least there is nothing serious happening to all of you apart from being no power supply to your home. Hope by now, everything is back to normal again in your home.

I just shows how much we rely on electricity when we don't have it.
My definition of a brownout is when the voltage drops and there is still enough for dim lights but not enough to run sensitive equipment. A blackout is when the juice is cut off and nothing works.
Has this definition changed over the years and so I am behind the times yet again?

I can tolerate and might enjoy not having electricity at home, but I can't do without water!
And it would totally irritate me when I hadn't taken my shower yet.
Luckily in our community, we don't have problems with contractors as most of the area near our place is already inhabited.
Happy mylotting!

I have also experienced the inconveniences a brown out could bring. A number of homes are affected. Imagine, members of families yelling each other due to inadequacy or absence of water supply, especially during early hours in the morning when almost all members of the house are rushing to meet time-in schedules in the offices, schools or in other job sites. It is clear that in your case, it was the fault of that contractor who in his negligence has caused the fall of the tree over the power lines. I would suggest that you inform the proper authorities to reprimand this contractor of his negligent act, and impose measure to let him pay the damage he has caused. He may not be able to pay all the damages, much more the inconvenience he has caused by such careless act. But letting him answer the damage done, would teach him a lesson that next time when he would construct again, he would be more careful.

hi professor,
there are times when the wind in some places topple trees and hit the wires making a brownout in some areas of the city.
but there are emergency crews always who are fast and reliant.
it depends on the damage that these toppled trees make i guess - which is the basis of the duration of the repair.
have a nice day.

hello dada,
Sad to hear that you were having problem with brown-out caused by people's negligence.
That's for sure gives you a lot of trouble when there is no water also due to power cut off.
Better have an extra drum inside bathroom then, even a small one in case of emergency like this one
hugs to you,maa and shubee

Hello Papa,
I am sorry to hear of all the headaches this brown out has caused.
Sadly the negligence does cause so many problems and issues like this. Here we do have a great deal of city contractors who will immediately get on issues reported immediately.
We did have several years ago a bad pipe break which did cause a great deal of flooding. It was presumed to have been negligence as well, but immediately they put forth the effort to get it repaired. It did take I believe it was 4 - 5 days to get it all back in order but the interim there was a lot of havoc and homes without power. Many on the farther south side of Chicago, went without the power and lost a great deal of food due to the refrigerator not functioning. I believe they got some relief efforts after to restore some of them and some cooling centers were open for those who were sick and with health conditions.
Usually negligence is not common here but human error at times is inevitable. Sadly it does cause a great deal of immediate efforts and wastage of money. If they properly inspected perhaps the repairs could have been caught in time and not the emergent expenses.

I have several experiences regarding brownouts or even blackouts but mostly it's due to the negligence of the electric company itself and shortage of hydro power during the summer season. It's a regular happening in my country every summer.
I feel bad that such occurrence happened due to the negligence of some constructor in your place. It really pisses me off whenever such thing happens due to other people's negligence and the sad part is we couldn't do anything but wait until they fix the problem.
I am having classes online and losing just an hour due to blackout is an hour loss for me. Thus i decided to have a phone that has a tethering function that can supply me with an internet during brownouts but i'm not sure how long the cellphone battery would last if i'm going to make it as my router.

During the early nineties, the Philippines or Metro Manila was running out of power so we would have 4, 6 and even eight hour brownouts and sometimes twice a day, terrible
, good thing the government rented power barges along Manila bay to fill up the lose in kilo watts until they fixed the problem.
