hi guys, take a look at this image, I drew this picture.. The source is the graduation picture. This is my love, though it does not look like him, but there are some angles that could determine his image.. http://www.mylot.com/w/image/2500446.aspx What can you say about my drawing.. i am not good at it, so i am open for any comments including suggestions on how i could be able to make a good copy..

It is a decent drawing. I think it looks like a slight animated look. I suggest if you want to go for more realism work on shading. Look at how the light will hit and putting the shadows in proper places to make the image pop more realistically. It is not a bad drawing at all though. Beyond my suggestion mentioned maybe also get a focus area to attract a person's view to. Like eyes for instance, if you can make eyes in a drawing pop it does a lot for the overall image.

thank you rev.. i agree with you, it looks more animated than to be real.. i put some shadings on his face before, but, i am not good in shading and i think i need more practice.. my shades ruin the image at first, so i erased it.. ok..i'll work hard on the eyes. and also in the nose, it is the most difficult part for me.. i am trying to use some colors because i don't really know how to shade without any color.. watercolor is good for this right?

Watercolor will work just fine. It will give kind of a minimal texture to it. Me I use oil pastels and charcoals a lot. as far as shading, A good way to practice is by drawing a ball that is under a light. Draw it from different angles and focus on the shadows.

ok.. i have a charcoal pencil, this is what i use for that drawing, but since the picture is colored and i draw it a little small, i can't really do the shading.. also, i don't know how to use oil pastel.. i find it messy when i tried.. maybe a little practice for me

I think your first respondent had excellent advice. I would agree, and add that you might want to work a bit larger so you can get those details in that would help your work look more "real".

It's not bad, you know. I'm not the best artist, but I think maybe working with a little bigger drawing and really concentrating on shading will help improve your portrait.
