Are there legitmate work at home jobs

I've been looking for work online and it's incredibly frustrating. When I search, most of the results are for scams that want you to pay a fee or lead to nowhere. If there is a site that seems like they have good information, they want you to register then blow up your inbox with advertisements from people who want you to pay for information about working online. I'm not giving up but it is frustrating. The question I wanted to post for discussion is: If you've looked for work online that would allow you to work from home, have you had any success?

I freelance write. I've tried lots of things and freelance writing is the only thing that I would promote for actually making money online without working yourself stupid for peanuts. You can make good money freelance writing as well. I recommend Associated Content to start with.

i have a cousin who stays at home but works 8 hours like a regular job from odesk. if you have skills like article writing and web design then freelancing might be the best option for you.

I have looked at some freelance sites too. The main problem that I have found with them is breaking in. There is sooo much competition for every posting and the person doing the hiring tends to pick someone who is already established. I'll keep plugging away at it. Thanks for the help!

Annoying, isn't it? I spent three months digging through all the poop, trying to find decent ways to earn a little cash. It's good to see you've already discovered the first and second rules of online earning (1. never pay for anything and 2. if it looks too good to be true, it probably is). Back when I started, I wrote a great big beginner's guide to save people going through the same rubbish I did (it's in my profile, updated for 2011). Thankfully, I eventually found something that fit me: writing and editing. It then took me a good three months to build up a bit of a reputation and some feedback to encourage clients but now (2-3 years later) I have all the work I need. Hang in there. It does get better. And the people here on MyLot know a LOT of helpful stuff!

If you are living in USA, which it seems you do, then this is a real legitimate paying website that pays you for admin work done: https://www.mturk.com/mturk/welcome. There are all kinds of mundane little jobs to do for them, from writing small articles to viewing photographs for various municipalities, etc.. I have been working there on and off for a few years now and have always been paid for every job well done.

The risk is out there but the reward will be worth it if I can find where I fit in. I agree about the reading and research. That does seem to help weed out the scams. One of my favorites is the 'by completing X number of sponsor offers'

I'm checking into a lot of the sites our other myLot friends suggested. If I do find anything else that's legitimate, I'll definitely share!
