Another Bad Day At The Office

Philippines
July 18, 2011 6:25pm CST
I just arrived from the office and this is the worst shift by far. People can just do the worst things if ever they suspect just a little bit that you are not a good person. Well, not really the worst things because I've done way worse than "bad-mouthing". Anyway, I just wanna let myLot know what's been happening with me. What's the worst working days that had ever happened to you? How did you deal with it? Just wanna make it clear, I'm not looking for advice here, I fully know how to handle the situation and I always prefer my way.

The worse day I had in the office was when I was nearing a deadline for a project, and then my boss comes along, and assigns another project for me to finish by the end of the day. I was at wits end, and two of us were already working on the project on top of our other responsibilities we had to finish. How did I deal with it? I bent down my head, sobbed in front of my computer, dried my eyes when I was all cried out, went for a smoke, and got back to working on the project. Did I finish it by the end of the day? Unfortunately, not. And well, my boss couldn't really do anything about it when all I could tell him was that I could finish it, but will be able to hand it in the next morning. To which he said, "okay." lol!

That is just misleading. You should have asked your boss that first before crying and all. Lemme guess, they made it sound urgent too, right? I don't think our bosses will ever tell the truth when it comes to that. I mean, you won't hear them say, "You need to finish this project now but it's okay to hand it to me tomorrow." That just sounds stupid.

Yeah! He comes up to me and says "I need the two of you to create this presentation today. Send it to my email before you end your shift. The VP's asking for it because they need it for a presentation. Make sure you include all the data from the scorecards in the last 4 months." We tried reasoning with him, but he's a bit of a tyrant and wouldn't accept "No." So we clammed up. Imagine having to drop everything because of something just as urgent as what you're already working on? We didn't even get any feedback after we sent the presentation to him. He made sure that he double checked if the presentation was complete after receiving it the next morning. He had a bunch of questions as to where the other data would be found. After we cleared up a few kinks with him, we never heard about the presentation again.

A pleasant day to you Frontvisions101, I do remember when I was still an employee, that, during the last two years of my tenure at the company, I always feel a bad day. That the whole last two years was almost a bad day for me. And, during those days, I am just letting my tears flowing out from my eyes. As I cannot do anything. My family is living from a far. That, I just raised every situation in prayers then letting my tears flow.

It's great to hear that you held on even though you were having a bad day in your workplace. Nowadays, we need a job to keep us alive so we have to keep a good grasp at whatever work we have.

worst working days for me are those days where even the head of this office gets mad at you blaming you for the mistakes of other people in the office. to get rid of it, i just keep my silence and get to do my job. if it needs my presence to troubleshoot the mistakes of the other personnel, i just do it. but silence is not my stuff when i know that i am at the right side.

I agree, keeping silent won't take the troubles in you away but unfortunately, on most cases we have to kiss @ss in order to keep our job. If ever we vent out on the person that has authority over us, we'll probably lose our job afterwards.

In my case, I always had a bad day in the office when I failed to have a nice start for the day. Whenever I started grumpy and woke up unmotivated, it turns out to be a bad day for me. That's why I make it a point to always sleep early for a nice sound sleep and good wake up call. I do have experiences too of a sudden change of my mood in the office. This happens when I get to be irritated by people blaming one another about a certain problem that occurred. Hearing the explanations of both sides is grueling when nobody wants to admit their faults. In these cases, I always think humor is your best weapon in here to cool off both parties. Another bad working experience is that you got nothing much to do for the day and suddenly when it's at the end of working hours a sudden urgent thing needs to be done. Those are unplanned overtime which really messes up my day. Well, I hope to avoid all these bad working days myself. Haha!

Yeah, well I experienced this in school. We were waiting for the activities that we had to do for the day but it came 30 minutes before our dismissal. We had to rush all of them and the activities weren't finished perfectly although they were done. We received failing grades so it's like they were blaming us for the banged up job we did.

I was happy doing something about my client. I thought he was satisfied and happy about my working performance because we had a talk about the work last time. He even appreciated my task. Unfortunately, I accidentally read a letter from him telling my seniors to replace me for he's not happy anymore. That was a terrible slap on my face.

Yeah, we all get replaced once we grow old, do something wrong just for one instance, or if we get to our boss's bad side. We are all replaceable one way or the other. I don't think there's anyone in the world who isn't replaceable.

Well I am actually having the worst week at the office right now.My schedule is just crazy. My co-worker is on leave for a week due to some health problems. The two of us are the only ones comprising the manpower here in our department so I had to cover her shift which means I have to stay at work for more than 8 hours.14 hours to be exact. There is overtime pay though. But it's still frustrating. When our manager talked to me about this,I considered resigning effectively immediately. But then I decided not to make abrupt decisions considering my raging emotions.I just keep on convincing myself to endure this torture for just a week and I will be rewarded soon with my overtime pay and 2 days off. Can't wait!

Good luck with your one week overtime. If I were you, I would have AWOLed already. I'm not the most diligent person in the world so you can count on me not showing up for the next shift if ever this same thing happens to me. I'll bail out on it the second I get the chance.

..you know, life wont be nice to you if you will mind narrow minded people. Just let them spend their time thinking or accusing you as a person. Let them make you as a super star in their lives. After all, you will never gain anything from them if you will ever confront them or react on what they do. Just be yourself. Let them gossip all their lives. hehe

I work in the hotel environment and I want to say that I work everyday that is Monday to Saturday with the exception of Sunday which is my off days. I am not happy working on Saturday because it is supposed to be a resting day. But my employer said in the hotel industries ( hospitality company ) there is no free days since we must keep our hotel guest happy. They said we can not enjoy normal public holiday like most workers in the government sectors. I am not happy working in a company that deprive me of public holidays. I know the company still compensate me but I am still not happy on my job.

If I were in your position I'd be frustrated too. I'd hate having to work six days a week even if they're paying me double my salary now. I'd still prefer working five days and receive standard salary.
