No gain in going after reputed institutes.

We all have a fascination to send our children to reputed institutes for better education. But we always forget that smaller institutes often offer better education than reputed ones because they feel they have to prove a point and both the students and the professors in such institutes try their best to achieve their goal. The brand name matters only in the job and the first few years. After that everybody is on a level playing field and what matters then is only the knowledge and skill one has gained in student life. So it is ultimately the student who counts in the practical field. Am I right in my observation?

You are right my friend I also observed this. Because I am running my own Computer Institute and I have only 3 Computers but lots of children near about 60 to 70 children joined my Institute. Because they said madam I dont want to go other institutes because there teaching way is not good my one friend is telling me. Some students join big institute and some days after they left it and then came here. Because my attitude is not only gaining the money but also provide the good teaching to my students. Because our reputation will make after good teaching so more children will came and money will automatically came. I observed most of the big Institutes or coaching classes only offers lots of ways before admission but but after admission they never teach as such they said. I love my teaching job.

I won't settled for unknown school and with little reputation as I believe those institutions with reputable names work for so many tears to gain that "reputation" and this reputation was proven in the number of their graduates who have contributed much to the country's economy, political and other aspect of government and private agencies. I am a product of a reputable education institution and I know the big difference in training and attitudes of graduates when I shares the working fields with them. Those from reputable institutions really stand out and have quality trainings and common sense!

Opinion varies from person to person. But i have seen a large number of reputed institutes where the credit of making brilliant results by the students goes entirely to the students only.

I agree with you. Many times parents go by the name rather than by the quality. They send their wards to a reputed institute just because of the name it has and later on find that their children are not doing well there. It could be because the faculty is not upto the mark or because the standard is so high that the student can`t understand what he/she is being taught or because the student is not equipped for the course he/she has taken. There are many factors. On the other hand smaller institutes try to give their best to their students mainly because they would like to have a good reputation and grow.Of course ultimately it is the student who has to take the initiative whether he is studying in a reputed or small institute because it is only his effort and hard work that pays in the end.

You are so right.I attended an institution nine(9) years ago and i was amazed at the level tutoring and teaching had decended to.No wonder some qualified persons have difficulty landing that first job or keeping it.Some tutors just turn up to say that they are there. They are of no assistance to the students and they also mark very hard.I think distance learning is going to become more popular. It is also going to be more beneficial to the student because they would have waisted less time.Lesser recognized institutions do put in a greater effort and usully produce very good students.

You are absolutely right. After the initial placement and good impression one creates after coming out of a reputed/good institute,it all depends on our ability to work well and get things done. You are on the point when you say smaller colleges work hard to gain reputation and improve the quality of students and their skill set on leaving college. But at the same time one ought not to go to a place less well known and where they aren't trying to improve or improve the lot of students.

Absolutely you are right on the dot. However on the aspect of the brand name of the institutions, it really doesn't matter at all, it's the individual skills and critical innovative thinking that counts most.

Ultimately the studen is who counts and what the school is built up for in the first place. Ofcourse if the student want to make into elete job markets the fancier and popular schools will be on his resume. It all depends on what the student wants to and is able to pay for and what he wants in his future.

All reputed institutions were once small. They must have been at the time of their inception just as dedicated as the newly constituted institutes of today at achieving best results. What is important is not the reputation or the size of the institute. All institutions whether big or small must give equal preference both in selection and as well as in the imparting of knowledge without any bias or partiality

I guess the name of the institutes and the reputation is based on the results which the students have had during the years. It is like the huge brands in other fields as well, you know that Mercedes produces quality cars and you know that adidas makes quality clothes. Of course, a reputed brand can produce weak quality products and lower reputed brands can produce quality products also. I know that people are not products, but I think you've got my point.

In a way, you are right DD. Our success doesn't really depend on the person, not really on the university or schools we get into. But, we should still consider good schools (for us or our children) in order to give them more opportunities in the business world. It's just what I think...

I do think there are some advantages of going into reputable institutions for education. Training and exposure to proper facilities is a big factor in getting good knowledge and nice jobs. Also, competition serves a purpose in here, since getting into a reputable school is a big confidence and ego booster which is a critical ingredient in moving through life. But yes, I do agree that after a couple of years the advantage wears out and what have been learned and experienced with all those years will be the turning point of an individual. But still, success lies in the person and how he responds to challenges and struggles. But such a personality can be influenced by the environment that the student was exposed to during his student years. So I think that a reputable institution do have some effect but I will also have to say that it is not the only factor that affects student's success in life. Just my two cents in here!

It does not matter the institute is big or small. It all depends on the teaching methodologies the school adopt and its care over students. What all the reputed institutes we are seeing today were all proven to be best in the past. New school will always have a challenge to prove them selves to be best in guiding the children and to give its best efforts to make the children to reach their own heights. School also needs to build the students to build their worth full goals.
