Alternative giftcards

Today I visited a Danish site where you can buy giftcards. They don't sell ordinary giftcards where you can choose something from a shop, they only sell experiences. The person who receives the giftcard can choose the experience that he or she wants. They can drive a lamborghini, try skydiving, learn to fly a plane, ride in a hot air balloon, spend a day with an artist, rent a castle for one day, spend a romantic weekend with his/her partner or 200 other things. What do you think about those giftcards? Would you be happy if you received that kind of giftcard or do you prefer a gift from a shop? Or money? Why?

Very interesting type of gift. Is this gift available through the year or on occasional only? And is it available to international member? I might want to purchase one for someone special in future and that person surprised. Have you ever tried to purchase any of this experience gift yourself? Hope you can share more in here...

The site that I visited is only available to Danes I think, because the experiences that you can buy all take place in Denmark. But I know that the same kinds of experience gift cards are available in other parts of the world because I have seen a site where they sell similar gift cards to people who live in the US and another site where they sell gift cards to people who live in the UK. I don't know if international giftcards are available somewhere, but I haven't heard about that. It looks like most of those companies only sell giftcards to one country, but I am not sure. The gift cards are available all year, so we can buy them for any occasion like christmas, birthdays, anniversaries etc. So far I haven't bought or received an experience gift card myself, but I have read about the different cards on the website and there are lots of experiences that I would like to try one day I have also thought about buying a gift card for a friend.

So, those gift experiences is not for international, only limited to certain countries. I am happy that at least it is available all year round. Maybe next time when i have the chance to visit my relatives in UK, then i can try out the gift for UK members. Indeed same like you, i would like to give it a try, too.

That is fantastic! That is so much more colorful and exciting than the standard Macy's or Barns and Nobles gift cards! It really shows care on the part of the person who purchased it. It is easy to pick up a $20 dollar gift card the last minute at your favorite store, but the experience gift card shows thought! Besides I would rather rent a castle for a day then buy a book at an everyday bookstore.

That is true. The person who buys that kind of giftcard has thought carefully about it. The giftcard is a chance to fullfil an old dream like being a pilot for a day or a princess for a day and if you know what kind of things your relative or friend likes or dreams about a giftcard like that could be the perfect gift. When I looked a the different options I found lots of things that I would like to try and I am sure that there are some options that my friends would enjoy as well.

Very true. Having a dream fulfilled is much more exciting then receiving $20 for a store you may not even like. :)

Wow that was something new. I would be totally thrilled to get one of those. Well money as a gift would be nice but sometimes things like this for a change would be sweet too!! I know some people wouldn't like these kinda gifts but I'm totally up for it coz it's a once in a lifetime experience

I also know some people who wouldn't like that kind gift and they would get disappointed if they got an experience instead of a gift from a shop. Personally I wouldn't get disappointed at all, I would be excited about the new experience. My husband and I have often talked about buying a hot air balloon ride and a gift card like that would be a chance to try something like that. It could also be interesting to rent a castle for one day or spend a weekend in another country
