I don't see why should it be mandatory to know your country anthem. Country anthems aren't really masterpieces of music, and being born in a country doesn't mean you're supposed to adore everything about it. Learning the lyrics of a country anthem is something more like a super-fan of that country thing but apart from that, country anthems are just songs, nothing more, and nothing that should be mandatory to know.

hi siliguri oh yes I know the Star Spangled Banner and am so' proud to be an American. the USA is my country. land of free home of the brave.I think you have a great point there and yes we all should have to know it and sing it with true devotion as we all here are Americans first last and always no matter that some may have come originally from other countries they now are Americans so learn the anthem and be proud to sing it with shoulders held back and head up straight with pride in our country America right or wrong she is my country and I will honor her forever.

I believe each of us when we start schooling is taught to sing the national anthem. I remember how we would all attend the flag ceremony where the national anthem would be sung and the pledge of allegiance would be recited altogether. Well this is the reason why school children know the national anthem more than the adults. They are singing this almost everyday in their school and even at home they would sing this. But adults, through the time would forget the anthem partly because they only get to sing this occasionally. Well I believe it is a good thing to know and remember the national anthem till adulthood. It is one way of expressing love for our country.

Hi! Guess what..? There's a singer here in my country and asked to sing for a boxing fight, a Filipino against other country. He sang but apparently, he does not know the anthem so.. well, he sang it in short cut.. I don't know my country's anthem. Why? Because I've never sung it! I would not want to die for my country so I don't sing it. God gave me life, and for him would I only die. Not for my country. I love my friends and family, but I don't need to sing an anthem (oath) for them, do you? Same applies. I do love my country but I don't have to sing the anthem. Might be a little confusing, but do you say an oath to everyone and every thing you love? No right. So I don't think it's necessary.

Hi! You must also love your family and friends right? But do you have any special anthem for them? Uhm.. I guess no. The same for me. I do love my country. But no, I wouldn't die for it. Why? What's the point? We are all humans, why should we kill each other for our countries? I'm sure God does not love that. I wonder how could people from one country pray to god to defeat the other while they also pray. Who would god listen to? Nobody. Because God is Love. God is a god of peace. Instead of fighting for my country, I would always want to promote peace and love.

In India after the China war in 1962,it was suggested to sing the National anthem before the start of any Function. But after the time passes, it started losing its importance. Now, it is almost forgotten by the Citizen.By singing the National Anthem, there is some spirit among the citizen. Now , the question is patriotism? How many people are patriotic?. The people in the power, the people in the high post, do lack in patriotism. They do more harm than good to the people at large. The time has come, all right thinking people should unite to bring patriotic people in one line and bring the power only to patriotic people and then and only then the Country will flourish and show way to other Countries.

People should give importance to this too. Its not a big deal to remind it so why not. National anthem represents the country. So don't know about it should be compulsory or not but every people must know it. I know our national anthem completely.

Sure.A country's national anthem is the unifying call to citizens in a country.I can't believe that someone cannot know his or her own country's national anthem.

Our national anthem is like a poem of three verses, if it is sang in beats only one verse do represents other remaining two verses because it can be just as a repetition of the same beats. The Swahili version of our national anthem is somehow simple and many Kenyans can sing to the last word but when it comes to English version, majority can sing the first verse, a few can go up to the second verse but so many of us -me included, cannot sing the last verse.

Well we have no choice but to know our national anthem. As I remember, when i started going to school. It was though already on us. You were obliged by your teacher to memorize and sing it to the extent. It is a part of education to know your national anthem. Well if you did not go to school or going on education it is not mandatory to you since you have freedom to do so.
