Is it difficult to find a job for non-graduates?

Some of us don't have the liberty to actually finish school, college or even highschool. mostly because of financial problems and the like. One of the reasons is also dependent on the student or on the individual themselves. If they don't have the persistence to finish school and graduate, chances are they may not be able to get a good paying job. I know there are school dropouts who were able to succeed in life and I admire them. But then again. It does not apply to everyone. But what do you think about that, I am a college graduate, but I also did find it hard to look for a job because of the availability of jobs perhaps. But in a normal situation, do you think it is difficult to find a job for those who were not able to graduate highschool or college? Your thoughts? Thanks.

I think it isn't difficult to find a job (i mean all types of job- like sales clerk, maintenance, house keeping,work in malls, offices with a low salary). But if we will talk about profession that are NOT in demand like my career it will be so hard especially in our country.

You have a point there, that to be a professional, or if aiming to be on top, being a graduate is one of the advantage when one looks for a job. Professions that are not in demand maybe easy to get into, even if you are not a graduate, although still there are some employers out there that looks for certain qualifications and some of it are learned in school.

They said that in order to find a job easily you must be a college graduate, and i think that was right for mostly companies are hiring people who are a college graduate no matter what position is, even a janitor it must be a graduate.. But i don't think that would be necessary although education is very important, if one will just persevere in life and try and try not quitting and ofcourse, one must be hardworking, i believe they can find a job.

Good point there because there are individuals and workers out there who were just lucky and started at the bottom and worked their way on the top to become successful, that is even if they are not graduates. So I guess it still depends on the persons capabilities and qualifications and what he can do and accomplish. Thanks!

I think it must be difficult. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to go to college, because I also have disability and it's hard enough to get a job in that situation even with a degree.

I admire people like you that they don't make their disability a hindrance to fulfill their dreams, that being able to go to college and take up the course that you want is such an advantage over those who doesn't really care about their future at all. It is difficult to get a job even with a degree but in time you will have your chance and will land to that company and get the job that you want or love!

I think it depends on what kind of job you are looking for. I am a college graduate, and I did not find any problem finding a job. I had 7 jobs and I am only 25.. What is also ridiculous for some is that I earn more than some university graduates. It all depends on your luck and on what you choose to do.

Good for you! Same for me that after 3 months of graduating I did find a job right away, after many stops of course, but Im still here in the same company, now running for 7 years. Im happy and the pay is good. I guess it is definitely an advantage if one is a college graduate. Depends on your qualifications, and abilities with a little luck on your side. True. Thanks for sharing!

They can maybe, but they may usually fall to blue collar ones. But I guess it is hard for them to be promoted because of their educational attainment.

Matter of chance yes, some companies before they pr0mote employees, graduates are prioritize. Some are lucky because they were given a chance to be promoted because of their qualifications, but it is not always the case in all companies.

At some point,yes,but I know some people whose been promoted to higher positions through their hard work and dedication.Specially with those with values,some company value virtues more than what they attain.It's just a matter of chance

Hem everyone i know are almost graduate but much of them get job for long time, and i think graduates or non-graduate is doesn't matter. There are many jobs everyday that available for all of you. Graduates are more has high pride than non-graduates they select job that make them rich instantly, much facilities, and many more. So the conclusion is keep working for survive

Yup there are a lot of available jobs to anyone in any field, we just have to be careful and know what are the best jobs suited for you. We are in an economic crisis and competition maybe tough but then it will still be up to you on how best you can sell yourself to the employer and with a little luck on your side. Being a graduate still is an advantage because most employers are looking for that first in the resume when it is presented.

Yes I agree that graduate or not, we are all having problems or difficulties in finding the right job and or higher paying job that is for us. Because of the economic crisis that we have now in the world, it is definitely a challenge. But as we all know that hardwork pays off and I do believe in that.

I don't believe that it will be difficult to find for a job to those who were not able to graduate high school or college. As long as that person pray and believe that he or she could land on a job, I'm sure he or she can grab one. I know a lot of people who were school drop out but they are successful today and eventually finished a degree by being a working student.

WELL that is a different case, working and studying at the same time. And I totally admire those individuals because not just because they had to do it, but working and being able to sport themselves and their family is an admirable thing to do. They really have the dedication to finish school and they will become successful in whatever field they go to. If they finished their degree, then much better jobs will be opened to them!

Yes friend you are right less job for non graduate people but they join other courses like Certificate course in Computer Hardware or languages and others then they can start their own business or they can join any institutes. Now competition is more so really getting job is very hard.

Competition is really tough and so kids today should already learn the value of education and being able to graduate should be their main goal as of now. So that in the future they will be able to keep up with the moving and challenging world.

I guess it depends on the ability of one person. My brother-in-law is not a college graduate and yet he landed on a nice job and earning a good salary. There are also some graduates who cannot find a good job. I think the secret really is for you to study hard, get a high grade, in that way you will have an edge to the other graduates. If you will apply for a work and there are many applicants, as an HRD employee, I'll definitely choose the one with a good transcript.
@redphile (2264)
• Philippines
31 Jul 11
I also agree with you on that that not only education but it also depends on the ability of the person. Your brother in law is lucky and he may not a graduate but could be the reason why he landed on a good paying job is because he has good qualifications and was able to sell himself well enough for the employers to notice and hire him. Having a good education is definitely and edge over other applicants but then if you know yourself well enough to be able to sell yourself to the employer, then you might be able to get in.

One first need to assess himself properly. Then based on his qualification,experience and knowledge he should keep applying for the job accordingly. Meanwhile he should always try to keep upgrading his qualifications for better oppurtunities. though difficult one should try to be positive too.
@redphile (2264)

31 Jul 11
That's right, one should know what are his strengths and weaknesses and if there is a way to improve those weaknesses then do so. He or she should be able to sell himself to the employer wherever he is applying the job for. Better opportunities await everyone of us and as long as we know how to sell ourselves, we will be able to get the job. Moreso, on top of the qualifications, a good education is also a good qualifier and may also be one of the priorities an employer is looking for.

Actually, it's hard. Because company nowadays are hiring those who finished in their fields of expertise. In short, Graduates.But it's not the end of the world for the undergrads. I know some person who has been successful in life even they didn't finished their schooling. Their secret is "perseverance"
@redphile (2264)

Definitely it is not the end of the world for undergraduates! Who said it is? There's always a way to improve our way of life and if one is to work hard and persevere, he will be successful. It may also be not too late to go back to school again. Some old folks here in our country are wanting to finish even just highschool. Because being able to say that they are graduates, they are already proud of themselves for even having that title.

Hi there friend, I hope you find your job soon.You said your course is accounting right? Do you have to take a board exam like CPA board exams? I think companies prefer board passers specially in your field of expertise which is accounting

There are a lot of options on how you can succeed in life, its not about finishing school or getting a degree although that might help, it always comes down to deligence and perseverance. Choosing to succeed and getting up after a failure is the best way to go about his, for example, if you are unable to get a job, set-up a small business or find a job that's not related to your field as long as its paying. There's no such thing as scarcity of jobs, all you need to do is not to be picky when it comes to choosing one.
@redphile (2264)
• Philippines
31 Jul 11
YOU can be picky if you have all the options you want but in this competitive world, being picky is not an option for anyone. Finishing school is definitely an advantage since most of the companies are looking for employees who are graduates. But I still do agree that even if you are not a graduate, you will still be able to succeed but in a certain level of difficulty.

For me yes in this system of things or this world but when the Government of Jehovah God will rule in this earth no more problem about it because if you are industrious you have more time to get your job.

Yes industriousness is the key to success but still there are certain qualifications that an employer looks for in an employee. Making sure that he is fit for the job.

Education is the greatest individual wealth as of date. It is the level we complete our course that help us to shape up our future. The more knowledge we get the quality of our lifestyle improves. These days, most of the corporate companies in India prefer to recruit a graduate plus a professional qualification such as Grad+ MBA (specialization in Human Resource) for HRD, Grad+MBA (Marketing) and so it has given a boost up in the Education sector al0ng with competition. This also had made a way for campus requirements. So by the time you complete your course, you are already hired. A recent report says just to educate a child you spend approx. 20 - 25 hundred thousands starting from his Nursery/ preparatory. Anyways, with the basic qualification you can land up in a job and every added technical or professional qualification gets you a special ranking in the company with the preference of promotions too. These days options are available for everyone online, offline and so websites offering courses suiting our pockets. Take care.

I agree with you on that! Education is the greatest wealth one could ever have in his entire life! Being able to be in a graduate school and get an MBA or PhD. That would be putting cherry on top since you are already a cupcake. LOL. I mean its already a guarantee that you will get a higher paying job because you finished in graduate school aside from being in tertiary school. HUndreds of thousand are being used up for a child's education and more than that if he or she is already in highschool and more if in college.

i was just graduate a few days ago, and i have find a job which is related to my major. But as a graduate one just step into the society,i have to learn much more things. i have worked for this job for more than 4 months,but the pay is still the same. they say i'm a learner, and other colleagues who enter the company at the same time or even later than me have got the salary increase.i don't know why. i want to quit the job and find another one, but there is no more good jobs.i'm very confused.

Well hey congratulations! Its good that you found a job related to your major. If you work for the salary at first, then you may be frustrated most of the time. You have been working there for 4 months, and its just a short time for you to learn new things in the real job world. Don't compare yourselves to others. Each has his own unique capabilities and you have yet to discover your own. Don't quit the job. Try to use this job as an experience. You know when you move into a different company, and they see in your resume that you have quit the job in 4 months, they will think that you might do the same thing to them. Its better that you have stayed longer, at least a year, even just for experience. You are still young, may be confused, but you have so much ahead of you! Try to use this job that you have as n experience. Then after a year or so, let's see. Just saying. There are good jos out there, we just have to be persistent in looking. Alrighty? Thanks for sharing!

Mostly companies are accepting graduates in college. There is a first priority to those who finished their profession. They can find a job easily, but it doesnt mean those under graduates cannot find a job. They can find a job though they are non-professional one. Education is very important to each everyone of us... that's all.
@redphile (2264)

That's right most companies prioritize those who are college or high school graduates when they are hiring their employees. This is also one of the requirements when one is up for a promotion within the company. And if one is not a graduate, this hinders them to become more successful within the company. Education, I would definitely agree is very important to everyone. Thanks for sharing!

will their is no difficult about it if you are determined about it, right so many jobs out there. will in today's situation even though those person who graduated from tertiary school also had difficulties finding job especially if they are fresh graduated and don't have experience yet.

I also agree that even graduates are having difficulty finding a job but then again, it depends on the person on his perseverance and hardwork in finding the right job for himself. Being determined and dedicated to finding the right one for you is one of the keys to getting a successful job or at least the job that you want.
