Yesterday when i and my brother went to our factory we were stunned to see a 6 feet long cobra inside. For a moment we didnt know what to do.The workers were not willing to go inside till the reptile was evicted.People sugggest that we kill the poor creature. But my brother was adamant not to kill the innocent intruder. We managed to get a snake catcher who caught it without causing any harm.We paid him 5$ for the risk.He being a professional and an animal lover would release it in the forest.Did we do the right thing by not killing the snake?

Yes, you definitely did the right thing, there are extremely few circumstances that justifies the decision of killing a snake. Most people kill any snake simply because of fear, unknowingly killing mostly harmless snakes. Snakes should just be removed from the premises and get released somewhere where they won't come into the human world again. I personally have rescued and released 3 forest cobras, a boomslang (tree snake), a Mozambique Spitting Cobra, two snouted cobras and a number of Shield Nose Cobras (Aspidelaps Scutatus Fulafulus) and still counting. I have only accepted the idea of killing a snake once because of the circumstances and I still regret it.

I am sure you did, it was much better if you have called animal control and they would be protected at the same time. But since you said the guy you asked to catch it return the creature to the forest, well that will be fine. Let them reside to their natural habitat and not to be caged.
