I am so confused about my friends because two times i did the same mistake. In one discussion I said ohhh why you are finding girlfriend do the marriage directly and it is good for you but I received a reply ohhhh I am already girl so why I found girlfriend then I laughed loudly ohhhh what a joke and this is my mistake. The same mistake is happen today I was laughing on myself. Here I have a dear friend named has hately I thought that person is a guy. But today Hately told me that she is a women. It is very hard to find from username our friends is men or women Hately name is like guy name but she is a girl. I know most of persons are elder than me so I always used word friend because friend may be child age or may be fathers or mothers age. Now everyday a new thing is happening with me this problem is only with me or sometime you are also confused tell me your experience. Should check everytime profile for seeing this. What you think share your thoughts.

Yes my dear sweet friend sometimes usernames are not clear and we can make the mistake. Usually if so I just apologize and try to stick to their username instead of he or she as this way we don't run the risk of making the error. Sweet Hatley is such a great person and very understanding so I am sure she was not upset at all, in fact I saw where she once said she put her gender in her profile because she knows her username is a bit misleading. She is a great friend and sweet member like you.

Surekha-- while it is true we have to remember about all our friends it is not possible. I remember about a few -- I have 300+ friends and I may be able to remember about 30+. I remember Hately madam because - i consider her the oldest member. (86 years or so).Do not worry about confusion. If u have doubts check the profile. But in some cases profile also doesn't have information about the male or female category. it is not mentioned, Finally - I also get confused sometimes. for me Age 60+ may be one reason.

Till I call friend but really I also call you sir because friend you are 60+ but I am your daughter so I not call sir. I call friend because father can be a friend for her daughter. Thanks for sharing your view.

Yes. I agree with you. You must call her madam only you may be of her grand daughter's age or slightly more than that. I realised that because I noticed she has done more than 40000 discussions. Then I checked her profile. she has given her age therein. In fact I feel if every member gives age and gender it will be good. I know women hesitate to give their age. Then at least the gender should be given. I do not mind posting my photo but my wife doesn't like that. It is there in my facebook account.

Hi Surekha, don't worry i am always a lady although i am using a code name here. I would agreed with you that we should always addressed a person with the word "friend", if we are unsure of their gender. Don't feel worry about this matter a lot. Just keep posting and posting and sure day by day you will know which of your friend is a girl or even a boy...Happy posting, my friend...

Hello Surkeha, I also face this problem in case of english name. Name of my friend from USA is Augustine, I was don't know Augustine is a male or female. One day she wrote me that she have a loving husband than I know that Augustine is a woman. Some time we also confuse with Indian Name. I know a couple where name of husband is Subhash and name of wife is Surender. In sikh community name of male and females are same they change only second name like, Surinder Singh and Surinder Kaur. Singh is for male and Kaur is for female.

Oh yes my dear sweet friend! There are times that with the user name alone it is not enough to determine if the member is a male and or female. If I want to address with he or she I will check the profile and if it is not clear there I try not to address the person with gender salutation. I have seen some misunderstandings over it and I prefer not to misinterpret with the user name alone. Therefore, I will only use the username in such case. It is hard sometimes because I have seen some males using a female avatar and some females using a male avatar. For whichever reasons, I try to be respectful and not address by gender in such cases.

I don't find English names difficult to determine if it's a man or a woman. But non-English names are really difficult. There's no way for me to tell if it's a girl's or a boy's name at all. Some members are using code names which is also difficult to determine.

Hi Toni! If you did not put your picture I will never know that you are lady here till I check your profile/interest and discussions started because I am not familiar with the name. The worst about the codename is if they put along picture/avatar that has opposite meaning to their gender. Make me feel confused~(^^)

It happens as to us we can understand indian names and think whether they are gents or ladies. When we see some usernames they are just numbers and can not understand who they are in person, and to us some abroad names we understand but unless we can be sure we can not say its male of female and the age also we do not get .So while discussing we should always be careful.

Well, I am sure form looking at my picture, you automatically know I am a man. But you're right, some user names are hard to figure out. I do believe that a real picture of the person helps a great deal, then there are no surprises. But everyone is entitled to use whatever avatar they want. Now, if you really want to know if they are men or women, go to their profile, most users at least list if they are male or female.

Yes friend from you profile pic I know you are a guy and good friend. Thanks for suggestion but after my discussion I think my problem will solved.

By the way best option is you can check it from there profile.. By the way You are right ,it's difficult to make out whether the user is male or female by there username.. If you dnot have a profile picture I need to check it from your profile that you are male or female.. Once I thought diana as a male and her user name is not diana and its for you too as your username is not surekha only

I know dear friend this is option but really it is hard to check each and everyone profile. I friend my user name is surekha rathi and rathi is my surname. In my profile my original photo is there so no problem for finding and definitely I am a women ahahhathanks for response.

I think it can be difficult to know from the username if it's a male or a female. do they have a photo of themself it makes it simple. But just from a username it can be either way. Especially if they use a code name.

Yes friend it is quite difficult to know from the username so profile photo is must. But I think if mylot will compulsory to upload profile photo then 25% people will leave the mylot. Thanks for sharing your view.

Hi my friend.. This really sounds funny.. You really made me to laugh. But Of course i agree that it is quite difficult to find out the gender of people with their user name.. Because most of the people are not using their real name in public forums.. Coz they need some privacy, So they hide their real name and will use some other different name which is not possible to find their gender.. But in my experience, i didn't find any confusions in finding their gender.. Coz i am a newbie to this site, May find difficult in finding their gender in future i think so..

Yes some people dont post pictures and their names cannot be identified by the username. But you know what it doesnt bother me at all. Some people post good comments and I really dont ask who they are or are they female of male. It doesnt really matter. I am here for extra income and I give more importance to the post I reply to and the post that I make for others.

You are right friend without pictures identification is very difficult. But you also not post pictures here but why whats the reason behind this. I know this is not matter men or women because all are good friends but sometime when I replied then our reply like they are guy but after we knows actual they are girls or women.

Well there have been times I am sure I have confused people on what gender they are, etc. as well. There are a lot of people here who it is hard to tell which because of their name, and even many times their picture on here for their avatar can be quite deceiving as well. All I know is since I have always used my real photo in here I hope people have always known I am female.

It can be difficult to define if someone is male or female on mylot. I know I have made the mistake a couple times so I try not to assume anymore. I know its hard to figure out if I am male or female based on my screenname and picture.

Well, I don't really care so much about people's gender, as I don't have any reason to treat people from different genders in a different way, so most of the times I don't really try to guess that person's gender. Also, being male or female doesn't mean that a person has to be attracted automatically to the opposite gender, that's ridiculous I think my user name doesn't really say much about my gender, but I want to be treated as a human being, not as a gender

If you are from that country you can easily say. But other country people its not so easy. Many of USA friends are thinking that "ramesh" is a girl. .... what can i do for that.???

Hi sis! I have encountered the same problem when many mistakenly assumed that I am a guy. I wonder why they thought that I am a guy instead of a girl?? Is it because of my writing? My username?? My interest?? I thought that my writing, name , my avatar and interest are all looks girlish so why are there still friends who consider me as a guy?? Because I eager to know the reason I started a discussion 'Do you know that I am a girl or a boy??' and still never found an answer to it. After I made that discussion I decided to put my gender in my profile(as I never did so before) so I thought they will not get confused anymore. But there are still friends who got me wrongly!!Hehe.... I think it's because they don't spend little time to check on them as they find it unnecessary as they are here for money, not for building and making relationship so they don't care about it at all. I can simply say that through the way they respond to my or other friends' comments. As for me it is very important to know the friends' gender and ways to address them. It shows that I am seriously want to be their friends. Not just for money matter~ It is more fun to know more about others right?(^^)
