Sadie hound was outside with her Dad setting up the water system and she go too hot.
I was busy in the house and didn't notice until she came in the house, then I could tell she was very heat stressed. At first I didn't remember what to do, I knew she would never let me get her in the bathtub in cool water. But I remembered that I had some of those fake squgee towels which held a lot of water so I got them out and just covered her in those cool wet towels. At first she didn't like that much but soon felt better. However it took about an hour for her to cool down. It reminded me that in the morning news there was a story about the death of children left in a hot car. Heat is nothing to take lightly, it can kill quickly, especially pets and kids. So please be aware, I know I'll keep a closer watch. Blessings

Oh poor thing. My dogs are out all the time to but they developed this system where they "accidentally" fall into the pool and cool off. But we never leaving them out when we're not there. You did a good job on the towels, a cold bath might have put the dog in shock.

That is funny, to accidentally fall into the pool. I am glad they developed this system.

Oh my, I sure hope she's doing better now. Its been very hot here too, still is as a matter of fact and I dont let my dog out. He's indoors with us in the a/c. Of course he goes out to do his thing but no walks as the roads are way too hot for his paws. So its in the backyard in the grass as its way cooler.
We have a pet show here on tv and they recommend that you wet a towel in cold water and have your dog lay on it. But you covered her with a wet towel and thats fine. It should get her temperature down. When my dog goes out, even if its only 10 minutes, he comes back with his tongue hanging out . I use a wet towel and cover his head with it and in 2 minutes he's doing fine
. He now comes to me as soon as he comes indoors so that I can get the wet towel for him LOL. He's such a baby but I love him
Remember to keep you and your husband cool also. Not only animals can suffer from the heat, humans too!!

Yes, we’ve had several sad situations here when pets and children have been left in hot cars…Dogs do get overheated quickly and it is easy not to notice sometimes. Our Cassie is outside for hours at time and it is so easy to forget that she may be roasting out there! I have lots of water in buckets for her and she loves a couple of frozen 2 litre bottles of water inside her kennel.

Oh, thanks God you noticed her condition soon enough to help her cool down! Extreme heat is so dangerous for dogs!
We don't have this danger here, because we stay inside when the weather is hot. In warm summer days Binne goes outside in the afternoon only for a few minutes, strictly for doing her business. We usually go for longer walks only early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
I knew that spraying the dog's coat with some water could help in such cases but I haven't known about the wet towels method. It is good that you shared this information, though I hope I'll never need to use it.

I know, sometimes we do not realize that our pets can get hot like we do. My mother has a Havanese and he is basically a lap dog. But I think he is mixed with something else. They bought him from Sean Casey animal rescue and he is cute. He gets hot all the time, but he does spend a good amount of time in the air condition.

I know what you mean savypat. I get over heated very easily due to my medical conditions and the medications I now have to take. I get dizzy and sick to the stomache. My husband on the other hand seems to have no problem being on a roof and repairing it in the heat of the day! I don't get it. I guess thats why we are together. I watch out for him and he watches out for me. I know you feel bad about Sadie hound since I had mine over heat to. I just put the hose on her. Oh and your going to laugh. she is a shipoo and i SHAVED her all the way. It is just too hot out here in TX I want to make sure she is comfortable. It will grow back any way. God Bless

I have one cat that always insists on being out. If it were not for winter, she would choose to always be an outdoor cat. One other usually goes out a lot in the day, but I notice he is inside today all day. The third just goes out early and late. He has to be within site of me, or he is not happy. I have been gone a lot this month and he is concerned. Feels abandoned. I am glad you cooled Sadie down. We have wet and shady spots outdoors and I am sure that is where Princess goes. She is black all over, she would just roast otherwise.

My dogs also get very hot and I saw in this dog magazine where they sell cooling beds and even a cooling collar..I am thinking of investing in one or both when I can, because our house has no A/C and it is like an oven sometimes..
