What do you do with lots of money.....

Hello friends and foes, salute. Well of late I am wondering as to why people are after money and money and money. This is something like , more money more happiness, more power. You start chasing money the moment you are either forced to or it is your duty to get into a job that pays you high salary. How much do you need to run a family? You would say this is a relative case.People are running their life with just the minimum and still they are happy and laugh the natural laughter. And there is the second group having lots, lots of money but life has locked all happiness and spontaneous joy that they could have had they not be blinded by the chase. For me a little more money is necessary for three special purposes only. First for medical and medicine for when you are too sick you need a lot of money. Second thing to spend money on the things you like or love. say you can fairly afford to take your own car to your job place that is say 50 KM from your home or where you stay. Now if you are seen standing in the que for a coach or other means of traveling I would say you are miserly fellow and have deprived yourself the comfort and contentment that you could easily afford. What would you do if you die a premature death and you leave behind a wealth. Third thing save some money for onld age and for the children. Frankly speaking I am drawing a high salary and even if half of it is taken away I would not starve. So emphasis ore on your joy and contentment not on problems.

krajibg--I am also of your view--but with a little correction. Yes. recently my brother had a heart attack and he was admitted to apollo hospital chennai. He had to undergo angioplasty. At the time of admission apollo told that UI Insce mediclaim will not be taken because GIC has not approved their rates and their rates are higher than what they allow. His treatment cost Rs.2.80 lakhs (roughly $5000). He has taken a policy of Rs.2 lakhs only and insurance may allow probably Rs.1.00 lakh or so as per their rate approved. Balance Rs.2 lakhs is a big sum for middle class person - total savings may be 20 lakhs or so. So I would like to amend and say earn and save as much as u can so that it may be of use for you or your family. 10% can be given for charity. sorry to disagree with u partially.

I'm just happy with enough money to pay the bills, and a little extra to save up and spend on those small luxuries, like a meal out every month, or an adventure day. I dont think I could handle being stinking rich. I wouldnt know what to do with it, and would probably go a bit mental!

Well chique, that, that stinging aspect of money is what I too do not like. Money should never become a burden on you. And when you have money enough to get your hand on things you love to have should be the limit. At least I feel so.

Greed and fame has propelled humans to want to have more money and the chase of money become endless. The more they have they more they want and would enslave themselves to have storehouses of money built in their names. In this materialistic world, people have become too addicted to wealth and status. They thought that having lots of money would make them more superior in the eyes of other fellow beings. Didn't they realize that money are only pieces of papers were values are only prints on the surface. Take the value out, these monies are no better than the toilet rolls. We should be contented with what we have and not to be too ambitious in chasing for money as life is not all about being who's who in Forbes magazine of the rich and famous. Even with a small bank account, the one who is contented finds himself with great wealth.

Hi Raj, there is not a millionaire who did not say 'I will retire when I get a million.' The million bored him, then his pleasure was not in having money, but in pursuing it. After the body is surfeited with pleasures, it reaches a point where there is less satisfaction in the pleasure than in the pursuit of it. Why do we need a lot of money when we know that we won't be around forever to enjoy the excess of money. It is good to have just enough to sustain our daily needs. My grandparents worked like slaves and amassed a lot of wealth but at the end of the day they did not enjoy their bounty but left all to their ungrateful descendants who freely sold the properties for quick bucks. I don't want to see history repeat itself and wish that what I have today is only good to sustain me while I am alive. I guess I am a bit selfish.

No. you are not selfish. If what you have planned about money or to say a lot of money is a wrong notion the connotation of the word would be wrong. If I have money for medical treatment for my father, wife or son or myself that is enough. If I can buy a gift of my choice for my friend's anniversary the money I had is worth it. Contradiction to any of the mentioned would be selfish and misuse or idea of using money.

Hi ZANDS, "We should be contented with what we have and not to be too ambitious in chasing for money as life is not all about being who's who in Forbes magazine of the rich and famous" But ironically that never happens, never happened and never would happen. This has been embedded in the minds of the people that only the moneyed people are powerful as with money you can buy anything even deaths for your enemies. You would not kill but the hired people do it. And pathetically the more you have money the more adventurous you become and the end becomes like that that of Dr. Faustus.

The person in the water will know the depth of the waters ,the person who is standing on the ground can say anything or suggest to the person in the waters. However when this person has the same experience then only he or she will know the actual situation of the person in water who asks for a hand to come out of it. Money plays a very important role,i know it can not buy a smile on face however it is very important to solve many problems. Without money we can not have the least necessary things of life. Many people pass away theri entire life in earning little money ,No body helps such person ,and no body asks for help also as it is the question of self respect. When such a situation arrives then only we know the importance of anything. It can bemoney it can be anything on this world.

Hi umabharti, I liked your use of the simile above. Money is indeed a a tool that can both cause happiness and sadness. However, that you have enough of money might not make you happy and your happiness would remain forever unhappiness a code of unhappiness if he not aware as to hoe to use it.

I've mentioned before in another discussion that if I have a lot of money I would try to satisfy my needs as well as do good things in this life like building a good school for the intelligent students but without money, building a good hospital for the needy and I would build a training course for the creative people... Yeah, I guess you are right, when I have lots of money I would want more and ore seeing how human never be satisfied...

No, how can that be? That you are not having good income or sufficient return is the nature of the job you are in. If you feel you could run another business parallelly along the line of your job you could add to your present income more and more

Hi Rajib, How much does Mukesh Ambani need to survive as a human being? Yet, in a poor country like India, he goes on to build a 27storey house in the heart of Mumbai and this is supposedly the most expensive home in India (or maybe the world, am not sure)! Money makes people heartless and shameless so don’t expect any rational reasoning from the moneyed class as to how much one needs to survive! You know, there is a lovely saying that the richest person maybe the king but even richer than the king (raja-r raja) is the monk (sanyasi, maharaj) who owns the entire world coz he’s conquered his inner self. Such profound understanding of life is lost in the maze of wealth. Wealth brings power and the two intoxicate people, they tend to think of themselves as next to God and the common people as next to filth. They are always scared that somebody else will overcome them in terms of income and they will lose their prestige and position. Mundane things like medical expense, children’s education, a small vacation…all these don’t have any meaning to them, so how do you expect them to even contemplate such things?

Sudipta dear, The words you put can not easily be written off. Mukesh Ambani as because he has lots and lots of money and thats why He is up to build such a grand mansion. For who it is ? not or you neither for me.. Here we an say that a lots of money is an evil.

If I have lots of money I will be needing millions of it. I will renovate our house. I will buy medicine and food supplements that my parents needed. I will buy appliances that they needed. I stock food and all the needed materials at home. i will deposit money to my bank and i will pay for all of my debt. I will invest something and or start a business and I will get to a tour. I promise to myself I will let the money grow, I will not make it sleep or just spend it till it is through. i make sure I will let it grow.

I think there are some things you really need money for and some things you don't need money for. If you want the thing you need money and if not you don't. I would like to have enough money to be comfortable and alittle left to save for the fun stuff. I am retired and there are things I would like to do.

Now I have made a truce that as long as I have money enough to support my needs I wold not not grumble. And would never aspire for a lot, lot lot money.

Hi krajibg! I have been thinking alot about this subject lately. I am taking a sociology class and wow...it is amazing. I suppose that some of the reasons why people are so money focused is because they are "trained" to be consumers from the time they are born. Then there is the social status thing that says that everyone is what they own. It's a true shame. Oh..and the fact that we are all stuck in what I heard referred to as the "Iron Cage" Interesting thesis...you should look it up if you haven't already heard of it. Take care.

Hi krajibg: My priorities on my money are the following. First to have a fund for my future so it's an amount I would invest. Second I use it for my personal needs and for sharing with my closest family members and the rest I use it for pleasure: to go to a concert, buying clothes I want, maybe take some vacations. That's the way I would spend lots of money. ALVARO

If I have a lot of money I will give some to my church, maybe buy a lot so that we can build a building there because currently we are just renting. Then I will buy my parents tickets for a cruise, then I will buy something new for our house, then buy myself a house and lot for my future family then save the others, I think these are the first few things I will do with my money then after that I will ask God what I will do with it. If he says give it all up then I would, because money isn't everything and does not really satisfy me.. No one is really satisfied having a lot of money, they will always need something else.

Hi dolly, Nice to know your view on money. Of course, people are there who are after money and money, even they do not need that much money. And on the other hand there are some who are striving for a little money day in and day out. Yes, if you have enough money do spend to your heart's content. It is not to be hoarded but to be spent and be happy and spare some portion for the morrow. Thanks for sharing.

I wish I could be a person who can just go with the flow. Go where ever life takes me, use whatever is available, hold a job if one happens to come into my life and just live a carefree life. Unfortunately, it does stresses me that I make not have enough money to meet my life's necessity and provide for my family. Life would be easier if I didn't care but hopefully I would find a job and I wouldn't be worrying either way

Hi animegirl, "If wishes were horses beggars would become kings." - this maxim well fits in our financial status. We are people who do not have a lot, I mean more than what is needed not too less that we fail to make both ends meet. So it equates to our being neither rich nor poor. But a little more would make us more happy and some other would become potentially danger.

Hello my friend krajibg Ji, For me money is something and not everything. We had been squeezing ourselves as per length of our bed-sheet. Never allowed our legs to be seen by others. At this junction of life, we are happily living with lot of money to spare. We nebver compared with anyone else, instead we always looked down, who were less fed. Besides, my hubby is always telling, money would become surplus, if one follows to keep oneself dis-associated professionally with three persons in society, namely Doctor, Police and lawer. Just try. Thanks. May God bless You and have a great time.

Hello MGBU ji, What you have put up is all true. As long as we have money and money to spare we are happy or are forced to be happy. But when this comes down to charity we feel as if we are wasting money. And in our country most of the charity shows profit goes to the pocket of the organizers. And I am sorry I could not understand what you wanted to mean by the doctors, police and lawyer?

As the saying goes, 'money is the root of all evil'. Yea, in everything, money is involved and to be truthful, we cannot do without money. With no money, there's no food. When there's no food, we starve and when we starve, we die. It connects like this and becomes a vicious cycle. Money can be used for good will and can, also be used for bad purposes. I always see on TV shows that the rich people often abuse their rich status and use their money to harm other innocent people, break up their children's love life and forcing them to marry someone they don't like so on and so forth. While these are the bad things we see, money put into good use include giving it to the poor, donating it to charities etc. People like philanthropists do that often. As for me, I would give a part of my money to the old folk's home and this also counts as giving it back to society. After all, the money that I have was also given to me by society so I must know how to give it back right?
@krajibg (11923)

Yes, money is the root of all evils. If you are too poor you would try to get money by hook or crock or even if needed you would kill a person as you are getting a good amount in return. And in such cases the criminal ( poor ) is most likely to get caught. Money is evil for the richer classes too. Since money can buy everything, it would buy power so that his life is guarded and this creates egotism in his bearing. His being rich would serve no good to to the society, rather it spreads terror and violence.

Hi rajibda I need more money. No kidding. Seriously. When you are away from earning for long many years and see that you have a loving family, I feel it is time that I should get back and start doing this earning money. Of course, medical expenses are top priority, then for me is the education expenses for me, my wife and when we have kids, the kids would get the top priority. Then the last but not the least is the fooding, lifestyle and the savings for the old age as I know, days will be tougher for me in case I do not have any savings for then. And somewhere, yes, I need a house of my own. I am sick of shifting, relocating and that makes me feel really bad. But whatever, there is always some way or the other where you can enjoy life and I will never stop doing that. I mean I will not be someone who gives up his own self chasing the money.

Hi chhotu I feel You need money and lots of money to dethrone some one and be in his/her chair. As I know of the problems you have are the money related. But I know that has not stood hurdle for you. For most of us money is not a friend but an enemy. The more you earn or pile up the more you you wish to have it. And giving some amount to you and some to me and still some to the charity organization is a far horrible dream. If this is to happen I wish you, they or me better not have surplus money. You know the sixth pay commission has been too kind to the college and university teacher. They start getting Rs.35,000 and after three four years you would get Rs. 75.000/-. This is a huge money for we college teachers are getting the highest salary in the in the civil line. There are a couple near where we do who visits the wedding party hiring a rickshaw whereas they have their own car at home ant the husband knows how to drive as well. How would you interpret this?
