Love drive on my birthday

I have been planning to have a love drive on my birthdays for many years now, some sort of charity event involving my friends for some street children but never really did one because I didn't really know how to do it or at least start it. I am not sure if it is legal to just go out and give some stuff to street children, because I have heard or maybe just have this idea that I must first ask our government's permission to do such activities. Well, my plan is just to gather unused clothes, those that could still be worn and give them out to the children on the streets, there are many in our city. Now, it's just a few days behind my birthday and I still want to pursue this plan, I hope I could gather more guts this time to actually find out about the whole process required and work it all out in time. Does anybody here have anything to say about this? I need guidance and maybe, legal advice on this. Thanks!

That's a wonderful idea! I can't help with the legal advice but I sure think it's a great gesture. There are places here that people have opened up to help the homeless. There is this one place in a city less than an hour away called the Love Kitchen and it's run by a couple of elderly ladies that have pretty much dedicated their lives to helping the homeless. There is also a place here called the Daily Bread that feeds the homeless and you one can volunteer there.
I guess I would call the local law enforcement agency first and ask them if it's ok and if they say no...maybe you could get together with a place like I was talking about above.

Sound like a great idea to have such a 'love' drive on your birthday. Giving out clothing, hopefully food and drink too to all those street kids and children that had been deprived for such necessity of a normal life for so long. Ycan check out your welfare and human resource ministry to get legal advice i assume.

I am not sure what country you are from. I don't think you can just hand out food, but clothing I would think would be OK. I am sure you could call someplace that assists the poor in your area and ask them what is legal and what is not legal to give to the poor in your area. I think it is a wonderful idea and I hope you are able to do it, but you will be safer if you find out the rules, and be sure to bring someone with you for protection. Best of luck to you, I think it is a very nice thing to do.

That's a brilliant idea.Instead of spending huge amounts for parties,it's better for us to share our blessings with the less fortunate.I have done love drive way back in college and I think no legal actions are necessary for that in the Philippines, unless it's illegal to be kind. It's good to give used clothings, canned goods, and packed meals.

@ kareemadivina: I was actually debating about this with myself, the part where being kind could be illegal, because I think I read from somewhere or heard it from someone(not really sure which one) that this kind of charity requires legal permit, probably because such could mistakenly be ill-thought of or something like that. I don't know if I could ask canned goods from friends but used clothing is a definite item present.
@arzoo786: What better way to spend a birthday, right?

A great idea. I would ask local shelters and goodwill and salvation army for ideas. I hope this plan works this year for you!
