There are many computer games today that are centered on violence.Do you think these kind of games can affect the behavior of an individual, most especially children? Would you allow your child to play these games?

I don't have kids, but if I did, I'd want to vet all their games before I allowed them to be played. As to what I would allow would depend on the age of the children. Even those I allowed, would be preceded by a firm pep-talk on how to appreciate them, to not let the games replace reality and that any kind of aggression/violence should at all times be kept within that game, and not spill over into real life. Where kids aren't warned/pep-talked first, and/or aren't restricted by their parents as to what they can and can't play, I do feel that it causes a de-sensitisation towards aggression and violence, removing the shock-factor towards news or experience of real violence in real situations outside of their homes. I feel that such de-sensitisation lures some children into believing that violence is acceptable, or within their own groups of friends, even admirable - which of course is very wrong.

It depends on the kid. I, myself, am a teenager. I play violent video games all the time. But, I seem to be quite normal. Personally, I think if the parents forbid kids to play video games like these, they're just making it worse. It's not like they're not going to be exposed to it. The internet is available and t.v. shows violence as well. My parents exposed me to stuff like these at an early stage and, it could just be me, it made me mature easier because I understood what was happening. Also, knowing that my parents trust that I can handle myself is a great thing to know. My parents let me do everything I want to do, no matter what it is, because they know I would never betray the trust that they gave to me. Anyways, I would probably allow my children to play these games in the future to help them mature and help them understand things faster because protecting them from things like violent video games or shows is actually goint to hurt them more because they would be clueless if the thing is real or not.

With the maturity level of most kids, it depends on if they understand it's fake and not real. Also, I find it rather funny that people complain more about violence in videogames than in movies.

Violent computer games really affects the attitude and personality of a child or even adults. If ever I had a child I will never let them play any violent games instead I will let them play games that would enhance their knowledge, skills and attitude as well.
