Childhood Fun

I spent many happy days down in the country with my grandma and grandpa. I would get on the back of the tractor and ride all day with Grandpa thorugh a cornfield or wheat field. Other times I would stay at home with grandma and go help her in the vegetables planted. But lunch time would come and I would carry a large jar of ice tea in a mason jar to grandpa and an old time lard pail for his lunch. I always stopped at the creek or spring I should say as the water was very clear and very cold. Those were good childhood memories. I remember when TV was on and grandma did not have a lot for snacks so she would take teaspoons in a large pail of peanut butter. then give us each a spoon full of peanut butter. And I deffinately remember when I was 4 years old, we had old Charlie a horse out in the pasture that would kick grandpa off him so no one rode him. I happened to get off the porch and walk out to the pasture. So offf I went and before you know it I was under that horse and taking a leg going around in a circle singing ring around the rosie, Pockets full of posies. And I just kept going singing that song. By the time my parents noticed me gone, and realized where I was, they came down very gently as old charlie was known to buck. To this day everyone that remembers the story says he must have known I was a child and would not hurt him. That just amazed to still hear my family retale the story. What did you do when you were little that you remember?

That is pretty amazing that you were able to ride without getting bucked off. Maybe he just didn't like the weight of an adult on his back and you were small enough that maybe he didn't even notice you. Thanks for sharing that! Have a great weekend!!!

I was under him holding on to his leg. From what I hear he was a bad tempered horse. Guess I was just lucky.

I remember spending my summers with my grandparents and cousins. We would go to the beach catch some fish and during low tide look for shellfish. We used to gather firewood during afternoons and it was fun to do as a kid together with cousins. At night we used to play with the moon lighting us. Those were the good old days, I sometimes wish to be a kid again and go back to those vacations.

I can tell you how old I am LOL When at my grandparents house, if my cousins come down, grandpa would go out and wring the necks of chickens for sunday dinner. (I hope we all know chickens were not always found in a grocery store) Then he would hand us kids all a chicken and we had a chicken plucking contest. Yep those were the days!
