I can't Sleep! What to do?

I usually get tired after a day's work. Feel sleepy, off to bed and then suddenly something/someone interrupts my sleep and poof! I'm not sleepy anymore! No amount of milk, sheep counting and soft music can put me to sleep. I'd end up having TV show marathons until morning, eventually getting 2 or 3 hours of sleep. Do any of you have good techniques to fall instantly asleep? Please no sleeping pills. Thanks!

Same problem here.:( Have you tried to take sleeping pills? Of course, that won't be a good solution in the long-term but at least it might help you get back to your usual sleeping routine.

I have never heard that drinking tea could help. In fact, there is a higher content of caffeine in tea than coffee and as such, it might actually cause me to be wide awake at night. Anyway, thanks.:)

It was suggested by a commentor above! I guess it has different effects to different folks!

I really don't wanna take any pills of any kind. Maybe the earlier suggestions would work. Why don't you try drinking tea too?

Since you are only getting the problem sleeping if someone or something interrupts you, I would suggest to lock your doors and windows. Blinds would also help to block any unneccessary lights from your windows. What usually disrupts your sleep?

I have turned my phone down in my bedroom so phone calls don't wake me up. If it is urgent, my family can ring my mobile. If someone wants a favour from you, they should ask when you are awake, unless it is emergency. Maybe you can leave it turned down with an answering machine so you can ring them back in the morning. I am wondering what time people are ringing you up for favours and what time you go to bed?

Ah, yeah, well, at times I work during the day and try to sleep at night. Sometimes, I prefer doing my work at night and then struggle falling asleep during the day. One time, I didnt sleep for 48 hours..and the following days I was a bit narcoleptic, randomly falling asleep any time my body feels like it.

Family members. Which I actually don't mind really. I am used to being woken up to do some favors for some family members. Sometimes, it's the phone, sometimes it's the neighbors. In other words, a lot of stuff.

Try and do some exercise during the day as this will help you feel more relaxed at night - eg. walking, yoga or swimming. Don't have any stimulants (eg. tea or coffee) late in the day, and make sure you get up in the morning. don't watch tv in bed, only use the bed for sleeping, so get up and watch tv or read then go to bed. Maybe don't get up and watch tv as this might help to keep you awake, do something else instead. Valerian is a herbal relaxant that I have taken if I am having big sleeping problems and I have found it helps - an hour before bed - but that is a last resort.

Oh exercise! I will definitely try to have time for it. I think it will solve half of my problems. I need to flex my muscles more. Thanks!

Friend if you are not sleeping properly then you should take the name of God which you like. shut down the TV or do less volume.

Before you going to sleep more less one hours before open the window in your bedroom and let in some fresh air. You can drink some lemon balm tea. It help to calm down. You can also read some books in bed. It's working for me. Also regular exercises can help you gain regular sleep.

I'm afraid, I do lack exercise. I always plan to do it but for some reason, video games get in the way! Ah, reading novels, I quite miss doing that. The internet has replaced a lot of my old hobbies and it has turned me into a zombie! Thanks for the suggestions! I will certainly try the exercise, the windows and the books. About the tea...hmm, I still haven't developed a taste for it.

Maybe the lemon balm tea is not nectar of gods if we talking about taste but it can help you and it's natural.
