I'm pretty much always happy go lucky but every once in a while I get the blues, mostly when I think about home. All my family is in Germany and sometimes I get really homesick. I could go visit anytime but I'm scared to fly, luckily they come visit me. So what do you do when you're feeling blue? ICE CREAM ANYBODY

depends a bit on day and time when I am feeling blue but the best thing to do for me is making me a biiiiiig nice mug of coffee, either regular or decaf depending on the time of day or night, and then snuggle up under the blankets and read a good fun book...... LOL

why dont the two of you come over to Germany to see your folks every two years or so, I think airfare in the US is not as expensive as it is here.

something else which is helpful, is writing a diary to get it off my chest if I dont dare talk about it with hubby or one of my friends.

If I cannot see my family, I e mail or call them. If I cannot do that, I come to MyLot. It is family to me in a different way. I am glad your family comes to see you but you probably would also like to see your country again as well.

I do not know where you are living right now, but this has been a really nasty summer. It does make you miss the green. Of course the green in our memories is always a little greener than anywhere else.

It is pity to hear you get homesick because your family are staying faraway from you. I understand it since i ever get homesick when i was in college, many years ago. Since you don't have any other alternative way to visit your family, you really need the gut to fly. Same like you, at first i am also scared to fly after hearing so many airline accidents. But i have to have gut to fly because i really wants to meet my faraway relatives. hope you will be able to overcome your fear to fly soon.

I hope so too, I wish the flight wasn't 11 hours.

I think if you can take the direct flight, it won't consume much longer hours to reach your destination. Hope to hear you go flying soon...

I've been down before, especially when I don't get to hang out with my friends or family. What I do is I just surf online, watch some flicks, or just sleep it off. I usually am left alone at home because I'm not really fond of going out and having fun, although I do that sometimes, usually with friends.

I like going out but lately I've been kinda broke so I have no choice but to stay home.....hopefully there are some good movies on today, and it's Pizza day so that always helps lighten the mood.

Lucky for you, I can actually take a boat but it takes about a week and it's really expensive and then there are the sharks

Wow Missy, it is really scary to hear that your area have sharks. Then of course it is really not safe to travel by boat to your destination. It is always much better to fly to your destination...

I get that way sometimes. I get to feeling a little down in the dumps. The more I fought it the worse I felt. I had a friend tell me that what I was really looking for was a pity party and just to have one and get it out of my system. You know what? It works. It's okay to feel homesick. When I get like that, I'll write it down and get it out of my system and if I cry while I'm doing it, then I cry while I'm doing it. I do feel better later and it seems that it wasn't all that bad to begin with.

When I'm blue I usually try and find something funny on TV to make me smile. Also eating some chocolate usually helps. I really hope you face your fear and fly to see your family. Life is too short to just sit back and wait. Take an anxiety pill for the flight if you're that worried and scared. It helps me when I fly.

Hi missy! I'm sorry to hear that you are homesick. I hate to fly too, but I have to and I will probably be flying again very soon to see my mom in Florida. It is only a 3 hour flight, but I hate getting on the plane at all! I've been doing it for years now, but it still makes me extremely nervous every time I have to go. And the fact that I leave from one of the main airports in NY makes it even more upsetting because of what they put you through just to get on the plane! Do you have any Pistachio please?

Everybody gets the blues. But one thing wonderful about this is that blues are not permanent feelings. And it all depends on how we deal with it. You have it already right under your nose, you want ice cream. You go for it for it will be good for you. In my case , when I feel blue, I would go to my invisible corner and wallow on my misery for a while. Then I must have this desire to overcome what I'm feeling and that is when I start doing something that will make me feel good.In my blues day, I would go to my favorite fast food chain and eat hamburger and french fries. Being semi-vegetarian, hamburgers and french fries are a big no-no.But I eat them with so much pleasure when I feel the blues trying to destroy my disposition.

Good for you, everybody needs to do something they don't always have a chance of doing. Nothing wrong with having a Burger every once in a while...I won't tell

When I feel blue, I pretty much listen to my favourite music or take a short nap. When I do one of the two, I feel really refreshed. Or I just lock myself up in my room and do some movie watching or go out for a walk. it actually depends on my mood and the weather i guess

I think you should overcome your fear of fly.Fly is an important experience in our life. When I feel blue,I will cry and then start to do other things, such as reading books, see the movies, and go for a walk. And I will go to travel.

When I'm feeling blue, I usually listen to my favorite songs and sing out loud. After being carried away by the beat of the music I listen to, I can easily forget the blues than pass by. We have the same situation in the sense that I am also living away from my parents and hometown. It's not easy for me to fly every now and then to visit them since I don't have enough funds to do that. Hence I just call them once in a while and if I really feel that I miss them so much, I'll just turn on fave music and sing along.

When I am blue I will try to find some other things to do as a distraction for loneliness. Having something to do will make you forget that you are lonely. Things that I do usually are reading a book, playing video games and playing sports. But the best thing to do for me is to sleep. Lonely time spent sleeping and resting is time well spent.

Hi, I know it is not easy to be away from your family and this is just normal to feel homesick. I experienced this too when I was studying in college in another city. If you are lonely and missed home, you can always make use of the internet. Try to do some video calling using Skype, YM or other messenger available online. Seeing your family and loved ones will help ease the loneliness. You can also call them if it is not very expensive on your part. If you have friends, you can talk to them as well or hang out with them during your free time so that you will not be alone.
