Do people know what they want in life?

Do you think most people know what they want in life? Most people will probably just give one word answer, as in they want happiness or they want security or they want money. But they cannot give a definite working plan as to achieve their goals. For those who say they want happiness, they may not even know how to define happiness. What do you think? Do you think most people know what they want in life? Do you know what you want in life, and how to achieve whatever you want?

I am not sure about the people, In general, that whether they know what they want in life. But I know many people who have defined short term and long term goals and who are working hard to achieve these goals

Hi Shankerj, I think you have many friends who know what they want in life. There are more people without short term or long term goal, except waiting for their salary, and then spending it all. Most people are like that. Life is just about working, sleeping, eating and waiting for money to come in. When they are jobless, they are desperate since they have no saving. It is good that the people around you have purposes in life, and you can learn from them.

I agree with you idea.I don't think most people know what they want, they are just repeating the daily routine and no thinking about others. As for me,first i wanna earn as much as money as i can to make my dream come true.During that time, the mount of money decide to the extent of my happiness. While my final dream is traveling, during the time i will tasted ifferent places' local manners and feelings. That will bring me infinite happiness.

Hi Iamsummer, I love to see the fulfillment of your plan. I think you have a very clear and definite plan, and you have the strong determination to make your dreams come true. I also want to earn as much money as possible, so that I can retire as and when I like. I think it is good to spend our time doing whatever we like. It is good to go travelling round the world in style, and with time enough to understand the culture and thinking of different people. i hate to go to a place, and just visit the tourist spots. I prefer to talk to the people and learn the way they view the world.

I think that my needs thave changed depending on my age. So the answer is not one but many. The word "happiness" is a good one, if we know what that is and how to achieve it. I´m living now a day to day lif as I´m ill. But I still have thoughts of "what ifs...". If I get better, I want to visit some places. But who knows? Maybe by then it won´t be that important.

Hi Marguicha, maybe you can change your thought from "if I get better" to "when I get better". A single word change brings a whole difference in perspective. You can even start planning about the trips. I think if you focus on health, and wellness, you can get well easily. I just had a day operation too. Just two hours after the surgery, I woke up from the effect of general anasethesia, and I started asking for coffee and food. I think I had been thinking of coffee and yearning for coffee so much, even before the operation. After that, I was able to walk around, and changed into my own clothing. I think if I were to focus on the surgery, I would not recover so fast.

I have been blessed by having friends, husband, famly near me, helping me all the time. And although I have had great sorrows (who doesnt?) I have known what is to love and be loved since I remember. And although I´m not rich, I have always had food, shelter and the best education for me.

I know the difference between the two words, friend, and I´m planning in my head a vacation. But the word is still an "if" instead of a "when", because I have already been told that my type of cancer has no cure. I´m doing my best to do what is expected of me now, the dctors do what they know and there´s a third party involved that some people call luck and other people call God. I have had many surgerys in my lifetime but still this is an if. I am not pessimistic though, because my illness has let me know how loved I am by many people. And as I believe in the quality of life more than the quantity of it, I´m happy and have as much fun as I can.

I think that it might take some time and some trial and error before many people know what they truthfully want from life. There are just a lot of times where they really think that they want something but it is not the best thing for them. Or it is something that they think they want, for the limited information that they want in life. There is a lot of periods of discovery a lot of people really go through to find out what they truly want for life. There is a lot of times where people tend to catch on rather quick. They really move forward through what they want, wanting their eyes on the prize. Then others it takes a while for many people. Of course a lot of people tend to be deceived about what they want in life. Its all about perception.

Hi Megamatt, sometimes people stop searching after many failures. I think when a recession happens, those without any goal in life are the most miserable lots. They do not have the inner strength to keep going, and they have to put blame on everyone else. I think if a person allows time for trial and error, and starts with simple goals in life, then it will not go wrong so often. After all, if a person starts by saying that he wants good health, what else can go wrong? He just needs to pay attention to the way he eats, the things he eats, and the way he lives his life.

Most people do have long term goals they have dreams but they're not sure if it's fated for them or if its the best decision to have that kind of dream there's a lot of factors affecting people's ambitions a lot of what ifs. A person might want to be a business person but his/her parents might not like that idea. The parents feelings might make the person confused as what he/she wants in life and if somethings for their betterment.

Hi Mewpeach, most people do not have long term goals that are workable. Having a wish is different from having a goal. I mean most of us know that in our workplace, we have to meet certain goals for certain period. All these are workable and practical goals. If a company has no goal of any sort, it cannot survive. The bare minimal is to bring in enough sales to pay the salary of all the employees. If a business owner just wishes he has money, then the business will close very soon. Yet most people do not apply the lessons they learn from workplace to their life. They can keep on saying that they wish they have money or they wish they can be healthy, yet they do not have working plan to realize their goals in life. It is as good as not having any goal.

I think the majority of people just want health and happiness. The people who are really driven and goal focused are very low. I am the same though i crave financial independence but dont seem to have the ability to atain it.

Hi Hazard, it seems that the majority of people want health and happiness. Yet when you see the things they eat, and the way they live their lives, you start to wonder if they really want health and happiness. Most people do not even know how to get well. They eat all sorts of junk food, and they get sick and fat. Then they start to envy the rich and healthy persons, and they curse everyone but themselves. If a person really knows what he wants in life, he will not eat all sort of junk food, and still expect to be healthy. he will pay attention to what he eat, so that he has energy to achieve his goals.

I think and even have seen that there are only a few people who have clear priorities in life. Many people get clearer much later in life.

Hi Sweety, I think most people just have short term goal of waiting for salary to come in, and then spend the money away. They always live from paycheck to paycheck, even after ten or twenty years of working. Once they lose their jobs, they get into debt. I think if they had applied the principle of saving money, they would not be so miserable. There are very few people who can tell you what they want in life. Those who are aimless in life usually do things automatically.

Hi Thamarker, you are one of the rare few who know what they want in life. Most people just wish for something, such as a million dollars, without thinking about how to get it. If they really want that much money, they would have changed the way they live and the way they spend money. They would not spend money for luxuries or unnecessary things. They would not have credit card debt or live in a house that cost more than they can afford. I think having a goal can change the way we do things, and bring happiness when we are achieving it.

For me yes because it is nature to a person to be need something like they want money to buy the things they like and needed it is a normal person if not then they kind of weird one.

Hi Ebuscat, the problem is that most people do not buy things that are good for them, and they do not have a clue in managing their assets. If they had known, they would not get into so much debt, especially credit card debt to buy things that they do not need, and may not even like. Everything seems very different when we view it in the window or the shop. Most people know that they would not like a pair of shoes as much when they bring it home. Yet they are still spending money even though they have so many shoes at home. If they really know what they want in life, they would have just a few pairs of shoes, and save the money for the future.

I think for a lot of people it's difficult to even feel happy, you can't force it upon yourself and for me it tends to just come over me and I can't help how I feel, my views and my perspective. I think a lot of people do know what they want in life but it really depends on the person. I think there are plenty of people who just want to be happy, be a good person, be successful. all of that is really all you can ask for and of course everyone wants that. Other people are lost and have no idea what they want in life, but I'm sure even they know they want to be happy but they don't know how to be.

I don't know how think most of the people but I have few goals in my life and I do everything to achieve it. This are my purpose and my dreams. I know that many people don't know what they should do in they lives. Many people need advise or life coaching. I don't.I wish you all the best.

Hi Koperty, I think it is a waste of time going for life coaching. They can find their purpose of life if they want to. I think most people just dare not look at themselves and face with their weaknesses. They are very good at making excuses. If they dare to face themselves, they can quit smoking and other vices. They probably have to view themselves as cowards more than hero.

Your question is very hard to answer. But I try to give the answer. Whatever goal achieved finally we only seek happiness. We get satisfaction whenever we achieve our aim. It is fact that no one can not know what they want in his or her life.

Hi Sitakalyani, actually many people do not know what they want in life. When I talked to a Human Resource Manager, she also felt the same way. She tried to discuss with those fresh school leavers about their career path, and they were not keen. They had no career goal at all. For a young person, that is a very bad reflection of their values in life. They do not think about getting married, having children or have a successful career or what a successful career means. It seems that the only goal is to go to the office as late as possible, and leave as early as possible, and try to get out of doing much work.

In the past, I have a different view of what I wanted. Essentially I just want to be happy. Now that I have my own family, things changed. Everything that I want now does not have anything to do with me anymore. In fact my happiness now relies on the happiness of my son and husband. I wake up every morning, wanting one thing...I just want to make them happy...and I'll do anything to make sure they are...

Hi Fragab, I think you feel much happier when you focus on your son and husband. It is amazing that we cannot find happiness when we are selfish, but once we get over our selfishness, then we feel happy everyday. I think now that you know what you want, you even have a lot of small goals every day. It is good to have a focus in life, and do your best to ensure the well being and happiness of others.
